It wasn't anyone at Elswick Harriers who ruled you couldn't run with a GoPro but the adjudicator. UKA doesn't rule against carrying a camera, but if the conditions or location mean that there's a risk then the adjudicator has the discretion to apply a rule for that specific event on the day. I had a similar conversation at the English National XC Championships earlier this year where a marshall told me I couldn't run with my GoPro according to UKA rules. So I checked and he was wrong. However, with the Newburn River Run where there are narrow sections on a public path, runners travelling in opposite directions, and members of the public walking, running, on bikes, and potentially on horseback, the adjudicator felt there there was a risk he had to minimise. Ultimately, he carries the can if there's an incident and is responsible for safety for both the over 300 runners and the public who may be affected. I was as surprised as you were when I heard the announcement.
I suppose there are reasons that a camera would be against the rules, but to mention that at the end as you were crossing the finish line instead of with some sort of announcement at the start is bizarre
@@yesnonotexactly25 to be fair to them, they may well have said in the briefing too, I just thought they didn’t handle it very well at the finish line! No harm done though and no hard feelings!
@AlPepperRuns ah somehow I missed the part earlier about how you were warned, don't know how I missed it. All in all I'm sure it doesn't ruffle your feathers too much, and I'm glad you enjoyed it in any case

Thanks Simon, appreciate you sharing your knowledge! I’ll bear it in mind for future events.
Geezer thinks the course is as prestigious as Boston... What a silly rule. £5 says hes deputy head at a junior school... Great vid mate 👊🏻
Thanks Andy! I’ve just checked your latest half marathon video. Enjoyed it! That cannon was a rather novel way to start as well!
Different running in the summer conditions. Best wishes.
The only thing you should have been disqualified for was for not knowing who George is!!! He literally is the NE running scene!
Ha! I can’t argue with that! I’ve met him at a couple of events recently, nice guy and a brilliant runner!
In the US a “DQ” is an ice cream fast food place. Hola, Chica!
Dairy Queen?! I’ve been wracking my brains trying to think of what it could be.
Yep…Dairy Queen is the DQ

What a petty bloke he was, total jobsworth
I guess he was just administering the rules as he saw them but yeah, it didn’t feel too great being collared on the line in front of everyone!
Why would a camera be against the rules
I have no idea! I guess it’s something for me to check when I sign up to future events though!
Have you heard anything yet
@@Clairewy nothing yet, I was in the provisional results so guess I didn’t get DQ’d after all!
