The Marline 1894 is a blast. And it got us thinking about the place that lever action rifles have in our modern world. In our opinion, they are absolutely still relevant.
What is the 1911 Syndicate? We do a few things. We started out as a real estate company primarily targeted at serving the military/LE/shooting/hunting communities. Consider it our "day job" and we can serve you pretty much anywhere in the USA. Next we're a content producer. We kind of fell into it semi by accident, and here we are today. We try to do things a little different and have some fun. Thanks for tuning in.
Wind River turned me on to that gun. Never thought much of lever actions until I saw the movie. It's a hell of a flick.
Just saw the movie, just bought a Marlin 1895 SBL, dang you Jeremy Renner
It's hard to beat a good lever action in .45-70
Grew up hunting with a marlin lever .30-.30, frigging loved that gun. Just got my son a Henry lever .22 for his birthday, he loves that gun. The mechanical action and sound involved with them is satisfying for your soul in some way. I'm getting another Henry, just decided.
Great video! Wind River was a terrific movie. Hard to beat a lever action rifle. I thought about a 45-70, and a .357, but ended up with a 45 Colt. We don't have bears here though.
The "grizzly bear/ use it on your self..." story made this video so golden!!! 🤣🤣
I have a Winchester in 30-30 and you would be hard pressed to take a Grizzly with that. I carry it here in Colorado where we have no grizzlies. It is so comfortable to carry in the hand. Mountain lions don’t stand a chance and now that they are letting wolves back in, neither do they. I hike with my son who is 3 and I want a rifle if we are in the backcountry. This also is less “scary” to non-gun people than the 6.8 SPC AR I used to carry. No one really bats an eye at a gun they have seen in all the westerns. Ruger Vaquero in 45 Colt and Winchester 30-30. Perfect woods combo for two legged ans 4 legged predators. Just gotta watch out for those 3 legged ones now lol
Don’t you mean 357? I feel like 30-30 can kill anything
Carry your six8! Who the hell cares what non-gun people think?
@@ministermonkey7546 30-30 won’t take a Grizzly down. Better to use it on yourself lol
@@geebeaux when you are with your wife and child, and people are constantly uneasy around you on the trail, it makes sense to carry the lever action over the 6.8 AR. I don’t want my wife and kid catching looks because of a rifle choice. Also, the lever action is just more enjoyable to carry in the hand than a modern sporting rifle. I can hike all day with the lever action in the hand. With my AR I basically keep it slung across the chest. Lever action also fits really well on the side of a pack.
Grizzlies have be taken with 44.40 and 30.30. Better than a sharp stick but not my first choice
I have an old Marlin 336 in 35 Remington ,(yr ?). it was used as a deer rifle and has taken quite a few by previous owner. It's a favorite of mine just a great looking lever action rifle.
My 1963 Marlin 336 in .35 Remington has been my deer rifle since 1978. My Dad got it for Christmas from my Mom in '63. It's never given me a reason to change. Great rifle.
500 grain 45-70 hardcast would go in and out through a human target. Wind river probably chunked the stuntman around because an accurate exit wound would have probably gotten the movie an X rating....
Well those guys had on some kind of “armor” if I remember right. Some of the actors didn’t actually have anything in their vests but hey it’s Hollywood. That could make that 500 grains dump an s*** ton of force. Not sure if it remembering right but I think so.
@@danielbouchie6397 True, I'm not 100% sure if the movie guys armor would stop a 45-70 round, it plausible that it could being sub 2000 fps pure lead slug. In the real world it still wouldn't pick up a person and sling them across of the room, physics being what it is.
But honestly who cares, the guys had it coming to them in the movie.
Imagine if they did a through and through shot and showed the exit while hitting bone… ugh… cleanup on aisle 5! 😂
The rearward momentum of the gun equals the forward momentum of both the bullet and the propellant gasses. It wouldn't move someone like that, but it would absolutely do catastrophic damage.
@@CharlieMikeNS I mean it obviously wouldn’t pick them off the ground but if you were to shoot a 45-70 standing straight up an down and not try to compensate the recoil at all, it could sure make you stubble over a table I reckon
Can't believe you would leave out the Winchester which 1st came out in 1866 and designed by John Browning in partnership with Winchester. 👎🤪👎 Big fail on your part especially if you are going to try and educate people on the history of a lever action while reading plagiarized writing. Winchester are the ones who introduced the loading port on their guns while Henry was still using tube feed loading. Little side note which Henry nor Marlin can boast about is the Winchester 94 has ben used in numerous conflicts in other countries during war but to name a few that happened here were the Indian Wars, Spanish American War, Mexican Revolution, WW1 and WW2, please do your do diligence about a particular gun and a manufacturer before putting out bad info.
They dont know any better, they are new to this.. gun.. thing.
Yeah...they really don't know that much about firearms.
Good videos, but not familiar with many things.
To be fair, John Browning had nothing to do with the 1866. Maybe you’re thinking of the 1886?
I've got a 45 and 30/30 lever action marlin and I love um
Nice to see someone actually cycling it correctly.
A quality lever gun in .44mag or .357mag has been on my list to get for years.
Here. We. Go.
i had the marlin stainless trapper in 45-70 16in barrel OMG! recoil insane ,the lowest grain i could use was 325gr leverlution from hornady and didnt help much but all my friends loved to shoot it.its like shooting a howitzer ,made for some good time and fun memories .my next gun will be the marlin 1894 foe sure maybe in 44mag/44spl
45-70 in that gun is only harsh on the wallet. I was surprised by how fun and controllable it was. Now that Ruger makes them it's on the list.
You people( Chris and Jake) are gonna break me financially!!
i just happen to be in the market for a lever in this caliber too!!
Dude I think your forgetting about Winchester... They were the big name in lever actions...
04:20
ever heard of winchester ?
who bought henry ?
john moses browning ?
lived in utah ?
winchester no. 1 ?
winchester 1886 ?
winchester 1892 ?
winchester 1894 ?
winchester model 71 ?
winchester BLR ?
Yeah…had to rewind it to realize he missed the quintessential lever action company.
357 Magnum was not introduced until 1935
Wind River gun 👊🏼 great stuff wish they were available
Phenomenal movie!
God damn it… one gun i logically talked myself out of getting, but when I’m doing good good financially, this and nods are probably gonna be on the things to buy
Just do it
If you have a bunch of guns and no nods… sell everything but one rifle and one handgun and get nods. Fucking worth it
Picked up a Henry 357 All Weather & dont regret it one bit. Shes a shooter for sure
Winchester Winchester Winchester
The Winchester 1873 model is one of the most famous lever guns. (And 1892's)
The 94's are awesome too. The 94AE Trappers are my favorite, 44 Magnum and .357 Magnum.
I love the Langdon Tactical ad spot. Well done.
There's an art to sticking those into the vids and an art to making ad spots that are fun. Good work.
Also good vid on lever guns. I've considered a .357 Marlin for years but don't live in an area where that cartridge makes much sense. No bears here and lots of wide open spaces.
🤙🏻
Wind River was a great movie. Even Hollywood knows the value of a lever action.
They should have done the 1895 SBL that was in wind River…
I happened to watch that last night. The rifle co-starred in the movie.
I have my grandfather's Winchester model 94 trapper 30/30 & his Marlin 44 mag and they are both at this moment the barrels are being threaded so I can use my suppressor on them. I'm waiting on my 45-70 Henry all weather to come. I'm taking a lever action tactical class next month can't wait to go through that. Oh my favorite lever gun is my 50-110 Winchester 1895 and WOW it has some recoil. Awesome video guys.
Also have the Marlin Dark w tac rail in 30 30 AND the 45-70...
The 44 mag is a bad ass 2..
Best ad ever
Is Marlin back in producing quality lever guns again? The last years that guns had a lot of quality issues. Would be great if the new Company owner brings back the quality Marlin already got.
Ruger recently bought Marlin in entirety and is now doing JM Marlin justice.
@@hookeaires6637 Unfortunately, Ruger don't yet make the 1894 in .44 magnum but they said they'd start producing them again in late '22. Up until now, they only make the .45-70 and .30-30 1895 models, but I hear they are very high quality (as expected from Ruger)
Love my Marlin 1895 sbl 45-70 govt great video @1911syndicate
Thanks bro
Planning on getting one myself
"Control your trigger time fellas" lol not gonna lie had me scratching my head LTT baby gotcha covered in yea love the marlin review toooo
You know it’s interesting, this was uploaded a week after my fathers death and at first I couldn’t watch it. Ik this is a more depressing comment but I just think it’s interesting because my father had always wanted a lever action rifle and shortly before he passed I was looking at marlin lever action rifles for him. It’s just weird how life is.
I was given a Henry in 45 Colt which with the +P hard cast rounds which is sufficient for anything I'll see in southern NM
Marlin 39A is just fun in a smaller package. Love mine! Been looking for a .357/.44 magnum old Marlin, but I will probably have to just wait to stumble on a deal.
Imagine if you got a threaded barrel version and put the dead air primal on it. 💪🏽
Chris Costa has a video of that exact set up.
winchester was established 1866 and thus the 1866 yellowboy rifles in 44 henry 44-40, 32-20 ,38-40 and 22lr were born .in 1881 marlin did there first lever gun in 38-55 and 45-70 ,just fyi
I’m a guide here in Alaska. We specifically don’t allow hunters to carry any handgun under 10mm. 357 wouldn’t do anything to a grizzly.
Also you left out Winchester which is the original lever gun which sadly is now longer in business. Also Roger owns Marlin now and so far only making one model.
But, Ruger kept their promises so far and delivered the first 1895's a couple months ago, just like they had announced. According to what they said last year, they want to deliver the first 1894 models in late '22.
Tell the big fella that Winchester repeating arms was at the top of the lever action manufacturing at the time. Also dont forget savage got there start around the same time and had a timeless classic with an internal rotary magazine in 1899.
Also, Winchester made their rifle 15 years before Marlin.
Winchester is still the gold standard in older lever rifles.
The only advantage the Marlin had was side ejection.
I got that same rifle, same set up. Awesome rifle by far one of my favorite rifles. I used it to take a deer with it this last season
Had one, 44 magmum, in the mid 90s. Meh. It was a novelty. Sold it just after 9/11 for a slight profit. No regrets.
I'm all about the AR15 platform and the 223 casing. I reload 223, 300 Blackout, and 300 HAM'R, and all from the same bags of range pickups. I love it.
Amazing picture on the ice and stump!
Yep. Lever Actions are America’s gun.
I have a few pre 64 Winchesters in big bore calibers, just ‘cuz.
I also have one.
Mine is 30/30 with an octagon barrel that's 26".
Dude!!! Ive been eyeballing a .357 mag lever gun for a minute. Got a can for it too
Been looking for a 1895 SBL, but they're going for crazy money on gunbroker.
That commercial is classic 🤣
I have an original Marlin Model 94 in 30-30, sweet rifle.
45-70 is the only way to go. Capable of being loaded down for squirrel, pheasant, etc… and everything up to and through the African "Big 5”. All done and documented. Love my Marlin 45-70. As for a backwoods pistol I go with my Springfield XD converted to 460 Rowland equal to or greater ballistics than a 44 mag in a mag fed machine.
I don't need a reason. But I'm interested in what you have to say.
The Marlin is a pretty looking rifle on it's own.
357 magnum was first produced in 1935. So no way a rifle was produced in the 1800s that chambered it. Also you never mentioned Winchester.
Now I want~need one!
Wind River’s use of the 45-70 was spot on awesome. It’s use in Jurassic World seems as ill-advised as a .357 against a grizzly. I’d think a 40mm launcher would be the direction to go when fending off dinos…
I have two Marlin 1895 45-70’s. 26” Cowboy and the short Guide Gun.
357 1894? Yeah, that’s for playing those cowboy shooting games.
Nice 👍
Dude I'm a small guy only 5"5 170 lbs.
And I can shoot 45-70 all day from my Henry.
It thumps but honestly isn't bad. If it wasn't so expensive I'd shoot it more
I thought Ruger bought out Marlin. I know Ruger is now selling the 1895 sbl. But it has a pick rail and threads out of the box.
I concede, I’m not sure
Ruger now owns Marlin, hopefully the new Marlin firearms are going to have better QC than when Marlin was under the Remington umbrella.
@@briankern6644 They do and are way better than the early Remington built guns. High quality with threaded barrel and great sights. Hope they produce more soon as we are on the waiting list.
@@1911syndicate Ruger shipped the first batches of the new Marlin 1895SBL stainless, threaded 45-70's late last year and are selling like hot cakes. My shop is on the waiting list and I hope they start producing the 1894's and 336 guns soon.
@@1893marlin I listened to a podcast a few months ago where a Ruger representative said they'd start production of the 1894 models (.357 and .44 mag) in late '22. I just hope they'll produce enough for a few exports to Europe. I really want the .44 mag but at the moment you can't get any Marlins in Germany. The old models are sold out, there are no used ones on the market and the gun shops have disclaimers on their sites that say "don't ask us about Marlins! We don't know when they'll be available! Stop asking!" 🙄
Those lighter rounds can be fun to plink and are great for light game but you better eat yourWheaties the morning you go to familiarize yourself with that 45-70. And it won’t be cheap anymore either, I guess like the rest of the not so modern and popular rounds. That Marlin tenderized me pretty good till I was instructed to take the recoil up with my arms rather than having it blast me in the shoulder. My bro who brought his bear gun over to sight it in the day before season had a good laugh at the expense of my ego. Remember, all that energy has an equal and opposite action…….
I feel like the ranger that told you the story of the bear was an idiot. There have been bears killed with 22lr and not killed with 12 gauge. Shot placement and bullet type. A 180 grain hardcast 357 mag will stop a beat if you hit him in the skull. But great video. I love lever guns myself. I just keep buying them. I can’t stop 😂😂
Especially from a carbine. With the right ammo you’re well over 1,000 foot pounds and the sectional density of a 180 grain hardcast is quite impressive.
Get the Marlin 1894 in 44 mag that holds 10 rounds. That'll put down a grizzly. I love lever actions. This is a good video.
I've always thought lever actions were the best looking rifles. Just super classic. 🇺🇲
As far as that scene in Wind River, the guy flying across the room and all that when he gets hit by the 45-70, that's Hollywood.
For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.
The bullet hitting that guy in the trailer cannot hit him with any more force than the butt stock of the firearm would apply to the shoulder of the shooter when the round was fired, EQUAL and opposite reaction.
Woot woot 👍🏼🇺🇸
Like the old video format more. But still good.
That scope is over kill. A nice micro red dot would have kept the slim sleek profile.
I think you mean Winchester when you keep saying Henry, I think Henry is a modern company.
It is. They just bought the name of the Henry rifle.
No, Henry made the first lever rifle in 1860.
They are the original lever rifle.
Winchester second then Marlin.
Amen brother ..45-70
Seen Griz on property in Hope Alaska take 12 .357mag from two revolvers and had to get 12ga. 2 slugs later that monster was down. Had to call state troopers. That beast stunk like hell.
4570 Buffalo Bore or nothing for grizzly. Also get a Bear Proof Ejector from Wild West Guns. 10mm on my chest and 4570 or 12ga on my back when in wilds of Alaska. Buffalo Bore & Black Magic for the 12ga. Get some. Adrenaline coursing through a 1100lb coastal Griz is something you don't want encounter if possible.
Somehow forgets Winchester when mentioning the biggest names in Lever Guns
Beautiful. Just beautiful.
Oh yeah. Levers are cool and fun. Don’t discount the 357 on a griz. It will work if you do. Choose the right ammo and put it where it counts. That said, 45-70 is definitely BA. Also look at 44 Mag and 45 Colt.
.44 mag from a lever gun is pretty good. That cartridge really profits from a longer barrel.
I have shot a 300 grain FMJ out of my Blackhawk. And it had no problem killing the deer. 🇺🇸🇺🇸👍
I would imagine
Problem is that currently not produced
Got me a Marlin 1895 GBL in .45-70 a few years back. The action on it is AMAZING. The recoil......SUM BITCH!
Fun fact....Black Butterfly Ammo loads a 576 grain 45-70 at 1400 fps. It's an absolute beast if you can actually find it. But holy shit
When Chris was rocking that lever action makes him looking like he’s holding a baby, would love to see what those really really subcompact pistols will look like in his hands when shooting lol
.357 will take griz.. use heavy hard cast.
The original Henry Rifle was made by New Haven Arms Company. Winchester and Marlin have been around forever and the pre 1964 Winchester lever action rifles were exceptional, but when margins started to decline, production was moved to Japan and sintered parts were used and you can predict the rest. Marlin has had it's own struggles and parent company missteps really tarnished that brand. Henry is a relative newcomer and other than decent period reproduction rifles, has nothing to do with the original Henry Rifle. There were and are others that made or make lever action rifles as well. With Ruger buying Marlin out of the Remington Bankruptcy, I have a lot of hope for Marlin's future. As of now, the 1894 that you reviewed isn't being produced, but Ruger is servicing the legacy rifles. I suspect that it will just be a matter of time until we see Ruger make the 1894.
when production winchesters moved to japan the quality went up considerably.
@@grayman7208 That's what I heard, too. They are made by Miroku in Japan which is an high-quality manufacturer of shotguns and rifles. I've never owned a Winchester myself, but I shot a Miroku Winchester at the range recently and it looked and felt like an amazing gun, high quality, luxurious feel (worlds apart from my Rossi, which is nice for the price but doesn't compare)
Love my lever actions 👍
Seems that you forgot Winchester.....
Winchester pre dated Marlin by 15 years....
Henry was first in 1860.
Winchester in 1866.
Marlin was 1881.
Winchester made what most consider to be the first reliable lever action rifle.
New Haven Arms was the first reliable lever designed by their head engineer B.T. Henry. Never was a Henry arms until 1996 and they have no history with the original. Winchester bought New Haven in 1866 and renamed it introducing the redesigned and improved Model 1866. Marlin did beat them all to the 45-70 with the 1881. Winchester introduced it in the 1886
Loving your videos.
Dan Wesson Kodiak 10mm on chest with proper solid projectiles like Extreme Penetrators +P+ or Buffalo Bore Dangerous Game 180-200gr are good in emergency. Extra Mags for a total of 27rds of Grizzly Hate on your chest is not a bad load out. I don't trust Glock frames with the types of ammo required for real bears. Not talking about some 300lb Black bear lol, those are cute.
This gun is 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
And it’s crazy the 45-70 was our (US) military round at one time, although I believe those were black powder cartridges, correct me if I’m wrong.
They indeed were, used in our Springfield Trapdoors
While I am fond of .357 in revolver and lever, I would agree that against a griz, that is a recipe for disaster. We all need to be reasonable in our perception of reality.
I got my wife a lever in .357 for Christmas. We have been shooting the crap out of it. An all weather is on the top of my list now. How does it cycle .38?
Does very well
I have a Henry H010, pre-side gate, and Chris’s comment saying he wouldn’t shoot it much….COMPLETE LIE!! I said the same thing. I shoot it more than almost anything else that I own. Haha. Definitely makes for an expensive shooting endeavor, but worth every dollar! It’s so fun. And with 300/325gr rounds, it’s not even bad on the shoulder the next day. I do want an All-Weather though, now, thanks to Costa and Mad Pig Customs, and run a tactical setup on it. Definitely buy a .45-70 though. Thank me later!
What optic is that? I'm looking for something with a long eye relief for my 45-70 Henry with a XS rail.
Chris that is an ultra featherweight rifle at 7.1 ounces. Think you meant pounds
Ok, so let’s get this out of they way. Henry was the 1st repeating lever gun 1860, then Winchester with the 1866 lever gun and then marlin with 1881 two decades after Henry and 1.5 decades after Winchester. I have a marlin 336CS 30-30 and a Winchester 1894AE in 44mag. I have had a 35 Rem Marlin but sold it and got the original 35 Rem the Remington model 8. I have owned both a 357 and 44mag Henry Yellowboy. Marlin is my favorite of the 3.
I want a 12ga 870 shotgun loaded with slugs if I come across a bear! Lighter than a marlin minus ammo and you can take birds - bear with it at defensive ranges
My exact comments as well!
Not to mention Winchester made what most riflemen consider to be the most reliable one of the three.
Slug gun over a 357/44 any day. Why skip 30-30 though?
Time to send it to Mad Pig Customs !!!
Yeah wouldn’t use that for bear defense lol. My backcountry is a Yugo K98K copy and I’d be lucky is 8mm Mauser would stop it.
In before the Winchester gang is gonna get fired up over some history.
Oh my
Too late.....we've been commenting since the video hit the Tube.
I wouldn't mind getting a lever gun in 45-70 but for me it's unnecessary. Because depending on what & where I'm hunting I have several options. Now if I'm camping or just walking around I'll take my CMMG Banshee 10mm because I always have my Glock 20 in the woods they share the same magazine & ammo also 10 mm is good for bears.
Why would you want it in 45-70 unless your hunting Alaskan Brown Bear, I've taken elk with a 30-30 Winchester lever action, sufficient enough to take out any game in the lower 48, even the bears we have here.
@@Icybones000 That's why I said it's not necessary for me to get a lever action because I have other options. It doesn't matter about the cartridge size. When I was younger I saw somebody take down a medium-sized brown bear with a 9 mm now he did almost empty the magazine but he did it. That's why when I go into the woods I carry a 10 mm better for all kinds of bears or any other good size predators like wolves or mountain lions.
I've been curious about trying one of these suppressed, locked bolt during firing for better suppression but faster than a bolt action to reload.
I’m rocking a Henry model X 357 with a rugged obsidian 45. You are spot on and the only thing left out was how incredibly hilariously fun it is. Another note, it runs so much cleaner than any gas or blow back pistol suppressed I own as well
I think most .38spc rounds are subsonic. Dont quote me on that but how badass would that be
@@HB-kp6rl I have read that other places as well
@@jmtdew There are three guns on my list right now: 357 lever gun, 762x39 ruger ranch, and ruger precision 22lr. Ive got cans for the x39 and 357. Just need a 22lr can. But 38spc subs out of that blaster would be crazy awesome
@@HB-kp6rl my Henry has a 17" barrel and every 38spc is subsonic except for extremely light for caliber, or plus p. So basically almost everything
2:15 haha I get it I see what you did there haha
I wold expect a benelli m4 would be a good choice with slugs, or 45-70. Anything short of 30-06 in necked cases is a no go for me, when grizzlies are concerned. Hello no, lol.
Given possible current legislation, manual-action arms gain an appeal.
Fair
What Leupold is that on top?
