Been there; done that. Several boat trips to North Sumatra and Central Sumatra. The North is better. Less crowded and more remote than the Ments. On a solid swell it's big and heavy, and often empty. I surfed Bawa ALONE on a double overhead perfect day. Heavy. Treasure Island on a big swell is no joke. The Bay of Plenty is barrel city, and you're in striking distance of Afulu on central Nias, and Lagundry Bay Nias. There are great waves in the Ments, but I don" want to spend thousands of dollars, travel to the far side of the world, just to deal with a crowd of knuckleheads frothing for tube time. No thanks. Banyaks, Hinnakos, and Nias. That's my happy place! Don't get me wrong, the Ments go off. Kandui, HT's (Lances Right), and a ton of Ment spots are epic; but the odds of scoring them without a crowd are getting poor. A really big consistent swell helps; so if one of those is forecast, I'd head to Nias, G Land or Desert Point. Maybe Bawa or Afulu. Happy Hunting.

Definitely yes. Ments are overcrowded and camps want a fortune.
Banyak looks like always small. Perfect but like half the size of the Mentawai.
You are right
It is but you get less crowd, more waves, more fun and raw nature... It's always a win/win... And there are some secrets there... :)))
@@MrJMHP I know about the secrets, they still need a huge swell to be actually worth it. Better just go to Simuele for the real secrets 😜
Gunters! good fun but a b grade waves compared to the mentawais.
This is a small day at Gunthers...
B Grade Waves? I do not get surf like this at all in aus that’s a class and a half but I’m not sure how good the ments are
