The closure that you need sometimes can only happen through forgiveness. Not that you ever forget what happen from experiences, but there is release from the grip of those experiences when you forgive. Live is too short and only one shot to just hold on to hurt and pain. 23:37 i’ll be honest Man is episode reminded me about my father before he died he ended up having heart problems and problems with his liver from abusing alcohol and drugs when I was a child. I used to be angry with him when I was in junior high and high school but by the time I had my own kid I forgave him for everything. Our relationship wasn’t the best but it really made me happier and him when we best things up together and him and my son were really close before he passed away. I took him to all of his doctors appointments dialysis tried to help you in every way I could but it seemed like he didn’t want to help yourself he has been gone almost 3 years and I think about him every day but I made it my business to break the cycle and never turn my back on my side and I’ve been doing good so far I’m raising him alone I know my dad would be proud of me

Another great episode. Forgiveness is for you, not the other person. Let it go for your peace and healing. Although I had my dad my whole life, our relationship wasn’t the best after losing my mom and I realized there were so many ways he manipulated/treated me wrong once I was on my own in the world forming both personal and business relationships. I was hurt but after talking to him about how my childhood affected my adult life in a horrible way, he also saw the affect it had on me and apologized. I already forgave him for myself and began healing but his apology helped me fully heal and our relationship changed for the better. Sadly, my dad passed away last year from cancer and very grateful that we got to mend our relationship long before he got sick and of course I was there with him every step of the way. Don’t wait until it’s too late, you’ll feel even more pain than you do now.

But my brother' and sister didn't. 2 years later he passed. I was happy I took that time with him with out looking back. But as for them. Truth..Facts. Thanks for representin 😊 My birth father dipped when I was 9, and mom and my five brothers and sisters had to hit the projects for 4 years. Saw him 2 times in 30 years afterward. Found out he got remarried and had another family across town in another projects, shortly after running out on us. Never forgave him. He died over 10 years ago. I never knew him or his side of the family, except his brother,Uncle Carl. I went to the funeral out of respect for my mom. No issues on my end. Life has been a blessing, and God has favored me. My mom remarried when I was 15 yrs old, respect for my stepfather for lovin my mom and making her happy. Stepfather and I had a good relationship over the next 40 plus years, always told him I loved him on the phone and in person, grown man respect. Stepfather passed away at home in 2022. Mom was there and tried to do Cpr. This storyline hit home and helped remind me that as men, we gotta keep living and let go of the past hurts. This will be an unpopular opinion, and not to you specifically King, but situations where the man goes off and starts a new family hit so different for me now. When I was growing up without my pops, moms used to always point out how he had a whole new family and how grimey that made him in her eyes. As a 50 year old man with my own family and a lifetime of experiences, I can't help but think what my moms had to be on for this man to want so bad not to fuck with her that he would sacrifice a relationship with his first and only son. We as Black boys grow up hero-izing our moms and demonizing the dads. I've seen so many unbearable assed women drive men away that I see the whole dynamic differently than what my mom tried to brainwash me with. No absolutes on either side, but when a man doesn't want to be around, a lot of times there's a reason. I forgave my pops before he died. I'm glad I did because I wouldn't want to carry that around with me. I agree with you about the need for us to just BE HERE for our kids. I take pride in the fact that I spend more time with my daughter every day than my dad spent with me his whole life. blessings
@wanderlustly313 It's wild cause this was my situation, I had to do like my pops at 16 and leave my mom cause she was off the chain(lol my dad's words) but I came back after highschool, because I felt bad leaving my mother alone. So the night I left my better situation. Who u was staying with told me & I quote " you leave im telling everybody you can't stay with me anymore & you weren't right for my situation & I'm taking that to the grave" knowing that it wasnt true but to set the scene to be real for me to make thebright decision. I decided to go anyway I kid you not after not seeing my mother for 2 years , her 1st words were " nothing has changed " I dropped all my stuff & tried to run after the car that dropped me off. The next 10 years I was on & off homeless ( in -25° almost died from hypothermia ),arrested at the house for false domestic complaints. The police had tazed me & almost shot me. When I finally got some housing help my dad after all that time had been keeping in touch with my grandmother but not me she told me. I called him & asked for some money; he sent it. He passed away 2 months later. The day I moved out of the hotel was his funeral. I had to miss it. He was Muslim so in Islam I was supposed to be there but I couldn't, I had to Google the prayer to say for him. So I see both of y'all points my mom was my hero & villian but my dad was never there & for good reason. I learned at the end of the day as a single child you should really just depend on yourself cause you won't let you down at the end of the days. Y'all stay blessed & do right . Although I had my dad my whole life, our relationship wasn’t the best after losing my mom and I realized there were so many ways he manipulated/treated me wrong once I was on my own in the world forming both personal and business relationships. I was hurt but after talking to him about how my childhood affected my adult life in a horrible way, he also saw the affect it had on me and apologized. I already forgave him for myself and began healing but his apology helped me fully heal and our relationship changed for the better. Sadly, my dad passed away last year from cancer and very grateful that we got to mend our relationship long before he got sick and of course I was there with him every step of the way. Don’t wait until it’s too late, you’ll feel even more pain than you do now.

My son was so mad and resentful of his absentee dad but now he treats his four kids the same damn way, breaks my heart. As their Granny I have always helped thieir mothers as much financially as I could, still active in their lives and always let them know that the hurt they feel now will be his hurt in the future.😡😪😭

Real talk I grew up for the most part of my adult life with out my dad... but when I was 22 I had a chance to get to know my dad again. I took that time. But my brother' and sister didn't. 2 years later he passed. I was happy I took that time with him with out looking back. But as for them. They were sad that they didn't take advantage of what time he had left. Their is no point in holding grudges. Use todays time to rebuild.

Truth..Facts. Thanks for representin 😊 My birth father dipped when I was 9, and mom and my five brothers and sisters had to hit the projects for 4 years.
Saw him 2 times in 30 years afterward. Found out he got remarried and had another family across town in another projects, shortly after running out on us.
Never forgave him. He died over 10 years ago. I never knew him or his side of the family, except his brother,Uncle Carl. I went to the funeral out of respect for my mom. No issues on my end. Life has been a blessing, and God has favored me.
My mom remarried when I was 15 yrs old, respect for my stepfather for lovin my mom and making her happy.
Stepfather and I had a good relationship over the next 40 plus years, always told him I loved him on the phone and in person, grown man respect.
Stepfather passed away at home in 2022. Mom was there and tried to do Cpr.
This storyline hit home and helped remind me that as men, we gotta keep living and let go of the past hurts. Our present wives, kids, and grandkids need us to be on point and not held up with past issues.

This will be an unpopular opinion, and not to you specifically King, but situations where the man goes off and starts a new family hit so different for me now. When I was growing up without my pops, moms used to always point out how he had a whole new family and how grimey that made him in her eyes. As a 50 year old man with my own family and a lifetime of experiences, I can't help but think what my moms had to be on for this man to want so bad not to fuck with her that he would sacrifice a relationship with his first and only son. We as Black boys grow up hero-izing our moms and demonizing the dads. I've seen so many unbearable assed women drive men away that I see the whole dynamic differently than what my mom tried to brainwash me with. No absolutes on either side, but when a man doesn't want to be around, a lot of times there's a reason. I forgave my pops before he died. I'm glad I did because I wouldn't want to carry that around with me. I agree with you about the need for us to just BE HERE for our kids. I take pride in the fact that I spend more time with my daughter every day than my dad spent with me his whole life. blessings

It's wild cause this was my situation, I had to do like my pops at 16 and leave my mom cause she was off the chain(lol my dad's words) but I came back after highschool, because I felt bad leaving my mother alone. So the night I left my better situation. Who u was staying with told me & I quote " you leave im telling everybody you can't stay with me anymore & you weren't right for my situation & I'm taking that to the grave" knowing that it wasnt true but to set the scene to be real for me to make thebright decision. I decided to go anyway I kid you not after not seeing my mother for 2 years , her 1st words were " nothing has changed " I dropped all my stuff & tried to run after the car that dropped me off. The next 10 years I was on & off homeless ( in -25° almost died from hypothermia ),arrested at the house for false domestic complaints. The police had tazed me & almost shot me. When I finally got some housing help my dad after all that time had been keeping in touch with my grandmother but not me she told me. I called him & asked for some money; he sent it. He passed away 2 months later. The day I moved out of the hotel was his funeral. I had to miss it. He was Muslim so in Islam I was supposed to be there but I couldn't, I had to Google the prayer to say for him.
So I see both of y'all points my mom was my hero & villian but my dad was never there & for good reason. I learned at the end of the day as a single child you should really just depend on yourself cause you won't let you down at the end of the days.
