Thr birds have eaten my cherries and blue berries. As for the slugs and snails, they've had a go at everything. I think the only thing that has been untouched is my onions. To keep the birds from eating your ripe strawberries, gather up some small rocks the size of strawberries and paint them red. Scatter them about your plants before your berries ripen. The birds will learn that the red objects aren't edible and will leave your ripe berries alone.

    Hey Gemma
Glad to hear you are feeling better and you got to have a break away from YT and the plot for a bit.
It really has been a testing season for sure with the weather and pests.
Just planted our second round of cucumber and the two OG ones that germinated in spring (3 went out) only two have survived and still yet to get a cucumber. This second lot are Polish small pickling ones and are meant to be quick to grow. I just sowed and got two, so fingers crossed we may both get any this season!
I still have some spare horse radish, etc but our chilli plant died when i up potted it :o( Never happened to me before i keep them indoors. Even had 3 for 3 years before they died too, so relying on their seeds now. I have some spare Thai Dragon seeds if you want them?
We had a blueberry plant for a while one year but never got past spring! lol Is it just the one you have? Our bird poop offering of a thornless raspberry pot did well this year. Not much to be said about the one we bought though. We have some black berries growing over our fence this year. Think i am going to take a cutting of it after we have had the berries and see if i can propagate it!
I am terrible! lol If it's a plant i will try and propagate it! 🤣 Got some Jade plant cuttings rooting up after a trim. For some reason i thought the yellow flower plant was a sedum and it might be from the same family but i think it is more like a yellow Kalanchoe. I have a white one downstairs that i got this year so waiting for it to get bigger for cuttings.
Dug up the ginger today in the front garden as they had all been eaten. TBH, i should have just left them in a window box. Going to plant the spare money maker and gardener's delight but still have the Tonys with some fruits on.
The soil was looking really nice out there as we put down cardboard, new compost and leaf mulch and then hubby dumped a load of extra wet clay soil from levelling off the lawn and now there are cow pat looking clumps there! lol Still haven't jet washed the car or the front driveway yet but we did the back patio and made a tiny border on the front with broken bits of slabs. I just haven't been in the mood for it even when the weather was okayish. I do need to do it though at some point (maybe school holidays), when things are a bit calmer from the end of school year stuff. At this rate though the car windows are making their own window boxes of growth! lol
We also have a california wonder pepper spare too. It's small though as i didn't get around to up potting as i ran out of soil.
Our garlic is a bit pants this year but we have some. Your garlic looks great!
S&S are now swear words in our house now but they are going to have a feast this autumn and winter as i just bought a load of cabbage seeds! lol (I'm a glutton for punishment!) 🤣
Going to harvest our potatoes in a couple of weeks. They were small desirees saved from last year and some small maris pipers. Not expecting much and i think they might be small as the leaves have been yellow for a few months now. I just use supermarket ones as i never get much luck from actual seed potatoes.
We also have bindweed growing in one of our asparagus crowns, so i am going to wait until winter to dig it up and remove the bind weed roots. The mares/horsetail is also loving the new sandpit bed area but i think it is just a case of pulling it out as that grows really deep.
Anyway, you have my email if you want a chat or meet up. Despite my essays, i am good listener! lol I like this community as i feel it is a great way to share stuff and it is not just down to the content creator to share everything. I often feel there is a pressure to "perform" but in reality, we are all human at the end of the day and it is ok not to be ok and to be able to say that. It doesn't mean that you have failed or are failing or struggling. Life just happens. That is what communities are for.
I am rambling now but take care Gemma! xx
