Thanks a lot for all your videos. It took me 30 minutes to take out the bottom bolt on the alternator/generator and 2.5 hrs to remove all the intake bolts. lol lol lol
My pleasure 🙏 The access on all those bolts is really inconvenient haha. After the first time removing and re-installing the intake bolts, I felt like I could save a lot of time just knowing the locations of everything. The first time or two was super stressful for me haha, and it sounds like your experience was stressful, too!
I took the alternator out, It was a bitch, you have to test the limits of the power box and AC line. This video was great and a huge help, My wife's H3 came up with a dead miss on Cylinder 3. Plugs had some oil, so did the Valve cover gaskets with the plug seals and the intake. Did the thermostat Because i saw it has some seepage. I had the same engine in my Colorado but damn it was way more user friendly.
I do my best to include the additional info when I remember to. Feel free to jot them down as you go and I can add them to the description for other people.
Hello again, the drive belt can be loosened via the belt tensioner. The tensioner is compressed, allowing for the belt to be removed. The alternator is fastened to the engine with 3 bolts, I believe. There are some electrical connections on the alternator, as well.
Currently changed valve cover gasket and spark plugs, now it’s having small idle problem at stop lights after completing the job, where could I have gone wrong ?
You got a lot done! Nice work. I would suspect vacuum leak of some sort. I would verify the intake manifold bolts and gaskets are seated properly, ensure the PCV hose connecting the intake baffle (big black box on top of engine) to the valve cover is properly connected, and make sure all the air intake tubing clamps are secured. Do you have access to a scan tool? I would use that to check your fuel trims to see if the engine is running lean (which could indicate a vacuum leak).
@@H3Humper Thanks for the videos! Really helpful. I am currently replacing my spark plugs and coil packs and discovered a lot of oil in the intake baffle (thanks for identifying the big black box lol) and now I'm worried. Do you know what would cause this? I also noticed cylinder 1 is all black so I guess I have to replace the valve cover gasket now.
@ didn’t appear to. I am still assembling. This morning I turned the crankshaft to test the component installation (like u explained in video) and all seemed well. I hope it was a bad lifter because I definitely don’t want to remove heads. One other interesting thing is that there was no friction washer on the crankshaft. I don’t know if certain years did not have it. Odd.
Scale of 1 to 10 how hard of a job? Think I need to do mine cause I notice a small amount of oil in spark plug hole last plug change but wasn’t much so haven’t worried about. And where was yours leaking to cause you to change? Thanks👍
Hey again! 🤓 Sounds like a new gasket set would solve your oil pool problem! I would describe the whole job as pretty easy, at maybe a 4/10. The only part I find notably challenging is removing and re-installing the intake manifold because the bolts are a bit difficult to reach. I just end up feeling around for the intake manifold bolts since I can't see down there haha... My old gaskets were still good, actually. I had to remove my valve cover to make some adjustments to a sensor, so I figured I would just replace the gaskets while I had the cover off as a precaution and to make a video for it. You're welcome, and thank you 😎
@@H3Humper cool deal! I may try it but was such a small amount of oil in 1 spark plug well that I been putting it off thinking it may never amount to much👍. Thanks again and keep up the cool videos:). Loving the Hummer H3 and there a great vehicle
