Wow, a blast from the past! Momo, I don’t know if you remember me, but my name is Yonah Laster. I used to be part of Rabbi Markowitz’s Aish Fellowship program, and we did a shabbaton in North Woodmere. I ate at your house and had an absolute blast. We did a lot of singing, and had some particularly awesome harmonizing going on. I remember you having a fantastic voice. I think about that shabbos every time I hear you on an episode of Meaningful People, but hearing both you and Rabbi Markowitz really brings me back. Very fond memories. I hope all is well, and keep doing the amazing work you and Nachi are doing!

Nachi: On the vort "לא עליך המלאכה לגמור", you (inadvertently?) said something very powerful. "God is the Closer". Wow. Like you better pitch a strong [at least] 7 innings, if you want the ace closer to finish it for you. Let that sink in.

How can we KEEP our people in... outreach/kiruv seems ...easier along with Conversions...than KEEPING our kids in. Oye. I think we also need to confront some issues we have in the observant community...won't get into it here but those that go off the derech have realllll bones to pick with Torah Communities... family dysfunction, hypocrisy...and then so many assimilate.. I know...a little..I'm older and I have a son off the derech and does not even id as Jewish. Lives in Poland.

As a parent of NY young adult, I can attest that the worldwide programs at Olami are exceptional; so I enjoyed this interviewed.
However ! The first trip many people take with Olami is the 'free' trip to Israel. The "free" trip requires a deposit along with information on how to have this deposit returned, which includes participating in classes, other trips completed, etc.
So I am very disappointed to learn that the deposit is still not returned, despite meeting all the requirements. This is not good! Please correct this so my child will continue to go on other Olami trips, which really are wonderful.

Wondering: if Rabbi Berkowitz doesn't leave Israel, as is the Torah commandment, how does he encourage his students to leave?

it is a great question! R' Berkowitz is doing his job in Israel building people to do their jobs inspiring people in and outside of Israel. Now the job of helping people come to true Torah Judaism has to get done but you can admit that it is more kadosh and greater on a spiritual level to live in Israel for many reasons too great to innumerate at this point. R' Berkowitz is doing his job in the kidusha of Israel while giving his students the tools to inspire people in and out of Israel. He is passionate about teaching true Torah and taking responsibility to teach that Torah to brothers and sister who might not know. Most people take that passion outside of Israel because sadly there are so many unaffiliated Jews outside of Israel, still many of his students STAY in Israel inspiring those unaffiliated with TRUE Torah-both doing the same mission!
