In medieval times crop failure or loss of crops was a severe issue that would often lead to starvation or even mass death, so depicting someone fighting animals which appear in great numbers and are notorious for eating crops seems pretty reasonable in that context.
I would guess that the shoes have something to do with a superstition. That's usually why things like that were done. For good luck, or bad luck, or to keep from being bewitched or whatever.
They are the unfortunate souls who bargained for good things in exchange of getting chased by the perpetual snail, eventually getting caught by said snail.
Imagine someone thousands of years in the future trying to extract meaning from our dumb memes... The thing with the shoes is most likely about warding off evil, there are so many weird superstitions and traditions like this. Where I live people dress up as demons on the 5th of December and hit each other with chains and sticks because thousands of years ago people thought this will protect them from evil.
Scene: futuristic lab with academics hard at work. "We've had a breakthrough. We've discovered this audio from the late 20th century. It's called ""Everybody was Kung Fu Fighting"". It seems to suggest that the fighting arts were practiced regularly throughout urban centers in the west. Perhaps roving gangs of kung fu practitioners would wage war in the streets." "Splendid splendid. Now what are you working on?" "I'm trying to decipher the meaning of NFT's." "NFT's? What's that?" "We don't really know. We know they were bought and sold for vast sums but we can't figure out why they had value." "Well, keep working on it. They must be worth something to someone. People don't just spend money on meaningless concepts." "Yes sir."
We also have the same tradition with the demons in some parts of the Netherlands on the 5th of December. In most parts of the country it’s mixed with the tradition of “Sinterklaas” (Saint Nicolas). Sinterklaas was brought to the USA during the Dutch colonisation, which then became Santa Claus. Funny how a tradition of demons scaring and attacking people became a fat old man bringing gifts to children.
The answer is that we don't know. It's not just about the snails. Everything we know about the past comes from what we've managed to dig out of the ground. We discover a new civilization, often all we can say for sure about it is that they had pottery and sometimes it broke. History as we know it is massively incomplete. And the further back we go, the less we know. We once thought that before the Egyptians built their first solar temples, everyone was a cave man living in a cave with stone tools and hide clothes. But we're starting to find hints that they may have had art, culture and maybe even civilization. We just don't know. But it certainly sparks the imagination.
Wow. This was a pretty cool suggestion by the algorithm! Regarding the rabbits, it's hard not to think about Monty Python. As to the shoes, it reminds me of the custom described in the Bible: "Now in earlier times in Israel, for the redemption and transfer of property to become final, one party took off his sandal and gave it to the other. This was the method of legalizing transactions in Israel." Ruth 4:7

Punt is a magical city inhabited by vicious snail riding rabbits. Since shoes are seen as an abomination there, deviant rabbits with shoe fetishes have to hide them in the floorboards.
Yeah we know now. But just imagine if they didn't have the holy hand grenade? Then what? They'd have all died and we'd have never known about the killer rabbits.
The conclusion of the video can be applied very broadly. And very close to present when not knowing is encouraged as it allows better reshaping of history.
Hypothesis: a real snail that comes across a book page lying about might be less likely to eat a page if there are pictures of snails on it. Anyone with a pet snail want to test out this idea by attempting to feed it a paper with snail drawings?
Hm. So that scene from Monty Python and the Holy Grail wasn't just made up. Good thing they has the holy hand grenade. It doesn't surprise me that much that they're finding works of art and signs of civilization from 12,000 years ago. We know so little about that time period but our notion that it was simply the time when cave men lived in caves is being re thought all the time. Stonehenge is older than the pyramids and Gobekli Tepe is older than that. And those were both much more recent then 12.000 years old but look how little we know about them. Who knows what happened so long ago but it wouldn't surprise me is we started to find isolated instances of culture, agriculture and even civilization. Human progress is not necessarily a linear curve. It curves up, falls back, starts over. Just imagine what it must have been like. We know there were people. We don't know anything about their culture or if they had cities but over the course of a hundred thousand years or so, with that many people around, it's likely. But there would've also been other kinds of people around. Neanderthals, Dmanisi, Flores man. Along with mammoths, mastodons, wooly rhinoceros, saber tooth cats, aurochs. A true time of legends. Of course this would have been earlier than 12,000 years ago but it's still possible. Human progress isn't necessarily linear.
Do you have a research team? Can you create a collaborative team in discord with research points that still need to be researched and you would vet your research team with a challenge to try to find something you know how to find information on.
Just imagine those poor future archeologists getting their hands on our internet servers and hard drives, and after grueling recovery work finding millions upon millions of copies of the same picture of a cartoon frog and millions of variations of a weird picture of a depressed man. And then spending decades believing they originated as part of a rebellion in China.
Yeah, gonna go with Medieval Memes for those snails... or the equivalent of political cartoons. As for the shoes; I know people here in the states used to put coins, books, and even newspapers in the walls when the house was built as a sort of time capsule. Perhaps it was something like that? Don't know why they'd pick shoes though.

Snails were fed hallucinagenic plants and then the snails were cooked and dried for consumption by human being. Fly Agaric was such a plant, it is really a fungus. Hallucinagenic mushrooms have been used in religious ceremonies throughout the ages. The Catholic Cardinal's red and white costume symbolizes a hallucinagenic mushroom.

That makes a lot of sense.
I like this explanation
Snails are the medieval version of the 90s “s”
I saw a picture you had shown of a snail with a song above it. If we interpret the song, perhaps it could give a hint as to what the snails represent
