The user posted an update 5 months ago. The gist of it says that when he was young some people offered him to go to a summer camp for at risk teens, but his parents said no and that it sounded like a cult. That was it. Then a few years later he’d been thinking about it and decided to write a fictional story about what could’ve happened. The update was supposed to insinuate that the cult leaders had gained access to his account and were trying to do damage control. TLDR: He made it up
I've seen a lot of people say it sounds like an Australian-based cult, who have the same M.O. of taking teens with mental health problems to a "training camp". If op is Australian like many are theorising, it's probably likely they were contacted by that same cult but obviously the parents saw through the bs
@@rhysee_arts that's debateable. Its like calling satanism a christian-based group. Or christians and muslims a jewish-based group. The fundamentals are that different they shouldn't be called christians. But its hard to believe it is derived from christianity since the FIRST commandment explicitly states:"thou shall not worship other gods..."
@@Liamomentje I have met numerous people that consolidate a version of the Christian god with their own Pagan gods and goddesses, as well as consolidate many of the practices of Christianity with their own Pagan practices. I actually was a part of Teen Challenge for a whole four days. It was so weird.. they took my phone. Didn’t give me a jumpsuit but I wasn’t allowed to wear certain clothes. Every single aspect of our day was scheduled and we prayed all day. I wanted to go home and they insisted I stayed but I ended up demanding to call my mom to check in with her and told her to come get me. The lead lady then took the phone and explained to my mom that I was okay and didn’t need to be picked up... she came anyways. Thank god.
I lasted 17 days. Only because I was in a new city and my parents refused to help me home. Eventually I had to call their bluff and leave with no plan. I called from a Burger King a mile down the road and my dad agreed to drive the 4 hours to come get me because otherwise I would have been homeless in a new city.

Nexpo warning us that the story is long as if we wouldn't listen to this man listen describe paint dry for 10 hours if he uploaded it. And then ask for more.
He did a update 4 months ago, where he explained that the story was fictional. He enjoyed writing stories and seeing people try to figure out if the stories were real or fake. He chose to tell the truth behind the stories, since he has health issues and therefore “Not long to live”. He wrote in the post that he didn’t want to take the story to the grave and that he was thankful for all the people who where curious about his stories.
That's what Nexpo suggested isnt it? But I belive this as Op is clearly in touch with the internet and Reddit terms and wouldn't call it "message" but instead call it "post" when he was asking for how to delete it.
@@sean8439 not exactly, they are beings with a power but however in Christianity they are not seen as equal to God. I guess you can say they’re deities, if that’s even the right word?
I was going to say that I thought it was him, but the fact that it said "The message I posted" leads me to agree with you. Of course I would like to analyze everything that the account said and compare how it is written, but idk. Honestly, that last comment sounds a LOT more serious as compared to the more laidback writing of OP. Usually breaking up contraction words is used when there is a more serious or formal tone. In the original text, that was not the case. Unfortunately the second post (the message one) does not have any possible indications of this. The last obviously does. I could also see, if the people had gained access to his account, them asking how to delete it on there possibly to either see what people were saying and also to try to erase any suspicion- obviously that failed, but still. Overall I truly hope they are okay, but from what I see, they either abandoned the account after the people gained access, or are back in that "group" forcibly and being (POSSIBLY) either brainwashed heavily or tortured into compliance.
UPDATE:: Op posted! He did attend a screwed up camp like this, but it was not a cult. He was inspired to write this story by videos similar to this, and decided to update after seeing Nexpos video covering it, and shortly after he was given bad news from his doctor and wanted to come clean about this story before he passed. It has been two months since his update, and he has likely passed away. Thank you stranger for the spooky story, godspeed!
This is absolutely made up lol. Coming from a guy who admits that he makes up stories he decided that when faced with death that he cared to come clean about a fake story he made up 6 years ago on a throwaway account.
OP didn't attend any camp. In the update from 3 months ago he admitted it was entirely made up while he was bored at work, and that he just enjoys writing fictional creepy stories for reddit. The only thing that was true was the two men showing up at his house after he signed up as a kid, but his parents never let him go. Whether or not he's truly on his deathbed now is about as questionable as his first story, a classic boy who cried wolf scenario.
Yeah i thought of that as well and the way the last update about him returning to the cult was written it seemed like someone else who maybe wasn't very good at using the internet or wasn't familiar with how people tend to behave online. Or maybe it was a hoax, but even so it's interesting
Yeah, they probably tracked him down and killed him or some shit, or blackmailed him, there's many methods they could've used. But I doubt this story is real.
Killing someone would bring far more heat to a cult than any Reddit post could possibly bring, so that wouldn't make sense. Assuming, of course, the purpose of the murder was to plug leaks and not for any other reason.
@@ryanvega9308 I meant heat from the cops not just the media. I was basically saying that a murder would bring way more attention from all kinda of places than any one person would by going to the media or posting online
The group would know if he rejoined. Plus, they'd sooner find the thread via taking his phone than stumbling across it on Reddit. If they're smart enough to effectively track him, they wouldn't make his final post sound so ominous. They'd use more tact, like at least trying to mimic his writing pattern.
I wouldn't consider myself jumpy, but cults freak the shit out of me for some reason. It's probably one of my biggest fears. Just dealing with people who are pretending to be your friends (or possibly believe they actually are) while manipulating your vulnerability/situation. My heart goes out to those that have been through anything like that.
That's a good life tip generally but there is no way you could sign a contract that makes you legally obligated to stay in any camping cult, rehab program, religious group, etc. Lmao
On Teen Challenge’s Wikipedia page there’s a warning saying that the page may have been edited for undisclosed payments. So yeah, these guys definitely try and cover for themselves.

Tbh if he was so paranoid to the point he wouldn't even Google their name, then how is he going to simply tell his whole personal story? It's even easier to track them from there than just by the Google search. Also, how you Google about deleting your post on the same account you intend deleting the post? Because it just raises too much suspicion. It'd be easier for him to just say he was trolling and tell people to forget it.
the last message gives it away, if cult actually took over the account, they wouldn't type the most ominous ass message ever, they would try to act like the person before actually changed his mind and that the cult wasn't actually a cult
@@Ogolutius actually some people in the comments have updated saying thats what his account just said. That its a fake story he said to see if others believed it
It's a hoax, why would the cult post something like that for him and try to save face when the name of it was never even exposed. They wouldn't care about the reddit post because it doesn't even implicate them
Not sure why, but I just went to search up this Reddit post and the post was actually deleted but all the comments are still there. Was definitely deleted after this video was uploaded which is suspicious.
Yo lol if this is true it makes this whole case like atleast twice as alarming as it seems, and I do think it's pretty possible that a lot of cults would try to find members specifically with already existing mental health problems at a young age, making them seemingly easier to brainwash / manipulate, than a normal functioning person.
All of the comments are at least three years old. The post was definitely deleted before this video was uploaded or else there would be two year old comments at least. The comments aren’t deleted because the post isn’t automatically findable but can be manually found. To see the full post before it was deleted is possible with remove reddit website. Comments will not be automatically deleted if a post is deleted or archived. The only way comments will be removed is if the admins of reddit (sub or the company itself) choose to delete it, if your account doesn’t meet a certain criteria, or if thr user chooses to delete it themself.
there's actually a third option: the story is real but his account wasn't taken over, he was just pulled back in and started to actually believe in the cult. plenty of people who initially escaped cults are then drawn back for one reason or another, at which point the cult indoctrination works that time, and the victim rescinds their earlier negative statements. edit: also, something like one of the leaders committing suicide wouldn't necessarily draw a lot of attention, because (1) this was likely just a recruitment operation and he was the leader of that specific branch, not the entire cult. and (2) a lot of cults don't draw a lot of media attention anyway. cults survive even in the modern day by staying out of the spotlight. it's completely plausible that this was just a smaller cult that isn't very well known outside of certain circles.
Assuming the story is true, because why not, he was probably tracked down either because of the reddit post or through legal means ( the contract thing is a dead giveaway that the cult likes to abuse the legal system) because of the investigation and criminal case against them. He ran away, so his "rerecruitment" was inevitable. There is no way they would give him access to his phone or the internet. Like the story mentions, it is common place for cults to seperate people from their contact with the outside world and while pretending to be said person tell everyone that everything is ok. The only reason they kept the phones and suitcases is because this was a recruitment operation and not actually joining the cult. You could probably leave after 5 weeks if you resisted the brainwashing somehow and actually wanted to. Again, the issue is for sure his running away, not that he didnt join. He is for sure alive and well if story is true and the cult has probably contacted police letting them know that for him. The way it ended actually sells it more not less, because that is exactly what a cult would do. There is no reason to act like that being an unnamed group other than just a cult operating under standard culty robotic procedure and having to let the world know actually everything is great.
@@thetalkingfist9482 if they can track him down he isn’t safe, ever. Absolutely. He ran away, which is the ultimate no-no in the cult world, forcing his compliance is a big deal to a group that doesn’t want people to walk away let alone run. They probably weren’t actively looking for him again before the post though. Cult intimidation tactics are intense and relentless but they don’t last very long. He made himself a threat again by sharing his story.
I'm 98% percent sure the guy is from Australia. He uses the spelling "mum" instead of "mom" which leaves the UK or Australia, but then he mentions he moves states, and they don't have states or provinces in England. so my bet is on him being Australian. Also, I've done studies into writing and text psychology, and the language and writing style he uses lines up more with Australian dialect than UK dialect. just my observation.
@@propottylegend9439 there's a lot of regulations around gun ownership in australia (i live in australia), and you need a license - i would guess op more so meant that regular people cannot just buy a gun - no regular citizen owns a gun.
I immediately thought this too. Australia has been prone to having some very odd cults (the family etc.), and it kind of struck me as a bit naive of people to assume it was in the US. Although I will say that I don't know of anyone that calls the "colleges" in Australia, at least in my area. They're either a Uni or a School.
I know this video is a couple of years old but, I think a more likely group would be "Kenja Communications." It's an Australian-based cult that has been known to target mentally ill young people, taking them to "training facilities" for meditation lessons and some sort of energy conversion. One of the leaders, Ken Dyers, committed suicide in 2007 while on bail, this could also link it to the user's story. This is assuming the story is true and not just made up though.
its important to note that he says this happened three years ago along with the post being two years old, which would land the cult person's death at around 2014/15 instead of the 2017 you looked up.
@@jimjimsauce because when he says that they were arrested, the parents and him let them know who he was, what he had done, and told them about some cult
However, the guy was arrested for harrassment correct? And if the cult was something like the teens challenge thing I doubt the media would go out of it's way to claim that the group was a cult. Especially with how big it is. All they'd have is that a man who was arrested for harrassment, when released then killed himself and on the side he was apart of an organization that claimed to help troubled teens. I'm just not sure if the media would be interested.

If you really pay attention to the original post, there are several inconsistencies. 1. He's in college but his parents had to sign off? 2. Then he says HE signed off on the contract. 3. He says they took his phone and suitcase separately, but then mentions he cant contact his family without his suitcase. Then proceeds to call his family with neither his phone or suitcase. 4. Who would give their phone number, email, and address in lieu of a business card? 5. For anyone interested, here’s some of my experiences from the teen challenge I attended (I was in an all girls adolescent center): To start with, the program length is 15 months. When you first get there, a staff member and two students go through all of your belongings, and make you try on all the clothes you brought to make sure they’re in guideline. They do a body check and mark down any tattoos/marks/scars in your body. For your first three weeks, you can’t send or receive letters from home and once you can everything is read and scammed before sent out or given to you. No phone calls for your first month, then after that you get one 20 minute phone call to your parents every other week which is on speaker and monitored and staff members take notes on what you talk about- if they don’t like what or how you’re talking they can hang up the call. Everything is assigned, we had to stand in lines and even our place in line was assigned. The rule book we and our parents received says multiple times not to trust your “student” (never your child, always student) and to verify anything they say with their counselor. We had guidelines and rules on what we could and couldn’t say or talk about. We had family visits every other month for a weekend, and those could be taken away at a moments notice. I was once told I had to eat food I had thrown up. We are expired food before. I could go on, but this is really just a glimpse of what it was like.
I was put through Teen Challenge against my will for a year. I watched some of the most terrible abuse and discrimination there. One of the most memorable things was praying over a Jewish patient to rid him of the anti-christ and watching fellow workers drop from the flu because they didn't want to pay medical bills. Finally, forcing you up at 3am to memorize scripture and failing to do so will get you completely cut off from your family. This is done to wear you down and keep you from being able to question what is happening to you. I survived only by the willpower of my progressive PO. The events listed above took place in Massachusetts @ the Brockton Teen challenge and the Brockton Probate court.
@Otilie Michela Mølskov Andersen Hold 3 Hjørring Ny 10 It was a long road, but after 3 years of following state guidelines I managed to not violate myself. My parole officer knew it was evil and helped me escape to a safer program. I was allowed to finish out my time at a Salvation Army recovery center. They have their own host of problems when it comes to discrimination against people, but they didn't force me to memorize shit to see and call my family so it was a win for me.
This definitely feels more like a redditor trying to make up a scary story than an actual cult case, especially the bit about the group leaders hiding outside his house all summer just to get him.Cults rely on emotional manipulation and other forms of coercion to convince people to join, not hunting people down and kidnapping them. It would be an enormous waste of time and resources to have an entire group of people wait outside this guy's house all summer when they could be out recruiting dozens more people who actually WANT to join instead.
I was in a cult. I had to wake up early every morning while there were people waiting outside my house to pick me up in a yellow bus to take me to an old building where they would tell us all these things that didn't make sense. I talked to my parents about it but they were in that cult too when they were my age so they had been completely brain washed.
Was skeptical about commenting, but Teen Challenge came to my school over summer, for summer school health class, and talked to us all about their program. It was basically how it is in this video, claiming to help people and serve as a form of rehabilitation. They also handed out flyers to join. This whole thing is creepy af. I believe the guys reddit post and i honestly believe it was Teen Challenge

The tracksuits is classic de-personalisation. Anything or anyone that tries to systematically strip your individualisation and sense of person from you is undoubtedly nefarious. It's often the basis of why racism and prejudice is awful- they have removed the essence of you being _you_ and made you just "One of ____". It's the first step in all cults (and Fascist cults of personality), you remove people's sense of being an indivdual and they are left with nothing but herd mentality. It's the biggest things Brave New World, Fahrenheit 451 and 1984 all have in common- the sense of self is removed (albeit by different methods).
@@josiahmartinez7674 Actually, in a sense yes. You want to train these people to depend on each other for their lives- you want them to exist as a cohesive unit, not as a group of individuals. That's part of the "Break them down to build them back up" mantra- it doesn't sound pleasant when you talk about this aspect of it though. You are training people to go _towards_ potential death simply because of a sense of duty. You want to kill that little self-analytical voice that says "Hang on a second," so they follow orders before it arrives- the people that keep questioning things are kicked out early. I'm in no way criticising it- it's a method for a necessary profession- but that is part of the reality. It's also one of the reasons so many people who leave the military struggle without the group dynamic- they are cut off from that thing they were taught to treasure almost above their own lives.
This is actually an interesting point about school uniforms. A lot of schools past and present train children to be an ideal citizen. You are taught from as young as 5 years old to not steal, don't hit people, don't tell lies, trust your parents and teachers. These things are innocent enough. But in some places it can be more controlling. Even in the USA, I believe they forced students to recite the national anthem everyday (maybe not anymore, I don't live there so); they are taught to not question their country and that it could do no wrong. People who refuse (a notable example is Kaepernick taking the knee during a game) are treated like criminals for breaking the mold that no one has questioned since they were 5 or 6 years old. This is very obviously the case in places like North Korea and China, but people underestimate just how much it still goes on across Europe and the USA. Here in the UK most primary, secondary schools have a uniform. But I believe in places like the USA, uniforms are mandatory in religious schools. Because religion being forced on by unknowing children is just a form of control.

Hey so, I've actually done this kind of therapy thing before. It was with an organization called Boys to Men (not the music group), they focused on giving mentorship (father figure) to boys who didn't have one or might be lacking in that regard. The adult/teen program it had was a two week long camp thing. It had a religious aspect but it was native-american. A lot of the activities were based on trust, strengthening friendships, forgiving your past mistakes, stuff like that. We did all have to wear these light gray sweatpants and sweatshirts, and also a white undershit and underwear. Shoes and socks are whatever you brought. We weren't allowed to take 'em off when we slept. Some still did but I don't quite get it but I think it might've been like a chyrsalis kinda metaphor thing? Like, when the program's over you've hatched out and were like a butterfly kinda thing, except not-explicitly that. You weren't allowed to bring phones, or at least have them on. They were confiscated at the beginning and would be given back later on in the program. It's so you focus on the friendship lessons and stuff. The first day had some creepy cult-like stuff, where in the dead of night we arrived and all the group leaders and staff were hooded and chanting. You had go through a couple trials before you got to the camp. They were very metaphor-heavy though. One I remember was having to push past a cluster of people chanting "Keep going," as they tried to push back with their shoulders. It wasn't subtle lol. And also as I was a weak kid they eventually lightened up on their pushback. There was a kid uncomfortable by all this (understandably) and went home early. The group leaders tried to convince him to still give it a shot, but they let him go. A couple other kids also didn't get the lessons and acted shitty about it all. The group leaders tried really hard to get them involved with the lessons and stuff, but they just wanted to play football during the free activity time and shoot the shit. It's not a cult, but I can totally see this type of program getting abused by pedophiles and other horrible adult figures. Also my program was certainly not as religion-heavy as the Reddit story. We did some native-american religion stuff, but most of it was like... trust-fall kinda stuff.
In all fairness, there are plenty other people who have asked how to delete a post on reddit. Sometimes the mobile version of the page doesn't give you an option to do so, but when you go to the desktop version it's there. It's not as far fetched as you made it out to be.
OP’s original post claims the leaders told them to pray to “the gods”, which I doubt a Christian organisation would do as they only believe in one god. He also uses the word “mum” which could imply he’s from the uk, meaning the cult is likely based there
he posted something on his account 2 weeks ago with a blurry picture of a couch im assuming and a title "where is the clock for the time of the journey of the journey is the clock of the journey of the journey of the journey of the"
"Im scared to even google their name with this very IP that im using to expose them on reddit" If he was really that scared he wouldnt have even brought the situation up online for fear of being found. Seems suspicious.
@@nekura some people still wanna support their favourite content creators y'know. It's only fair to support them with revenue if we enjoy their content? I'd expect the same tbh, Though, for my musical content I don't have non skip ads, as it seems unfair in that context to make people wait 30 seconds to view a 3-5 minute track. The gist of it says that when he was young some people offered him to go to a summer camp for at risk teens, but his parents said no and that it sounded like a cult. That was it. Then a few years later he’d been thinking about it and decided to write a fictional story about what could’ve happened. The update was supposed to insinuate that the cult leaders had gained access to his account and were trying to do damage control.

there's actually a third option: the story is real but his account wasn't taken over, he was just pulled back in and started to actually believe in the cult. plenty of people who initially escaped cults are then drawn back for one reason or another, at which point the cult indoctrination works that time, and the victim rescinds their earlier negative statements.
edit: also, something like one of the leaders committing suicide wouldn't necessarily draw a lot of attention, because (1) this was likely just a recruitment operation and he was the leader of that specific branch, not the entire cult. and (2) a lot of cults don't draw a lot of media attention anyway. cults survive even in the modern day by staying out of the spotlight. it's completely plausible that this was just a smaller cult that isn't very well known outside of certain circles.
But look at the wording for that last update. No contractions, unlike everything he’s posted previously
@@Luminousreign so if they can track him down, does that mean there’s no escape?
@@thetalkingfist9482 if they can track him down he isn’t safe, ever. Absolutely.

For anyone interested, here’s some of my experiences from the teen challenge I attended (I was in an all girls adolescent center):
To start with, the program length is 15 months. I could go on, but this is really just a glimpse of what it was like.
that sounds terrible. which TC did you go to, like what location?

I was put through Teen Challenge against my will for a year. I watched some of the most terrible abuse and discrimination there. One of the most memorable things was praying over a Jewish patient to rid him of the anti-christ and watching fellow workers drop from the flu because they didn't want to pay medical bills. Finally, forcing you up at 3am to memorize scripture and failing to do so will get you completely cut off from your family. This is done to wear you down and keep you from being able to question what is happening to you. I survived only by the willpower of my progressive PO.

This definitely feels more like a redditor trying to make up a scary story than an actual cult case, especially the bit about the group leaders hiding outside his house all summer just to get him.Cults rely on emotional manipulation and other forms of coercion to convince people to join, not hunting people down and kidnapping them.
So I guess Marine Corps boot camp is a cult lol
It's also one of the reasons so many people who leave the military struggle without the group dynamic- they are cut off from that thing they were taught to treasure almost above their own lives.
.
@@goingunder2548 yeah we're forced to recite the pledge of allegiance while holding our right hand to our heart and looking at the flag while we say it. I don't really think much about it but now that I think about it its weird

"not the music group" lolololol
*Undershit* yes.
honestly that sounds kinda cool
the only part that still makes me skeptical is the chanting.....I would have been like "yeah NOPE im out of here"
I can believe this more, seems a little less creepy or sus. Plus, at least they let the one kid leave, for goodness sake.
In all fairness, there are plenty other people who have asked how to delete a post on reddit. Sometimes the mobile version of the page doesn't give you an option to do so, but when you go to the desktop version it's there. It's not as far fetched as you made it out to be.
That just make it seems like the cult couldn't figure out how to delete the post so they made a delete post on r/help
Hypothetically, if the story is true, the I think op just changed his mind and got more paranoid and wanted to delete.
