The user posted an update 5 months ago. The gist of it says that when he was young some people offered him to go to a summer camp for at risk teens, but his parents said no and that it sounded like a cult. That was it. Then a few years later he’d been thinking about it and decided to write a fictional story about what could’ve happened. The update was supposed to insinuate that the cult leaders had gained access to his account and were trying to do damage control. TLDR: He made it up
I've seen a lot of people say it sounds like an Australian-based cult, who have the same M.O. of taking teens with mental health problems to a "training camp". If op is Australian like many are theorising, it's probably likely they were contacted by that same cult but obviously the parents saw through the bs
@@sketchy_character that's debateable. Its like calling satanism a christian-based group. Or christians and muslims a jewish-based group. The fundamentals are that different they shouldn't be called christians. But its hard to believe it is derived from christianity since the FIRST commandment explicitly states:"thou shall not worship other gods..."
@@Liamomentje I have met numerous people that consolidate a version of the Christian god with their own Pagan gods and goddesses, as well as consolidate many of the practices of Christianity with their own Pagan practices. So, some people to believe that Christianity and Paganism can mic though they do seem to be rare.
I was in a cult. I had to wake up early every morning while there were people waiting outside my house to pick me up in a yellow bus to take me to an old building where they would tell us all these things that didn't make sense. I talked to my parents about it but they were in that cult too when they were my age so they had been completely brain washed.
He did a update 4 months ago, where he explained that the story was fictional. He enjoyed writing stories and seeing people try to figure out if the stories were real or fake. He chose to tell the truth behind the stories, since he has health issues and therefore “Not long to live”. He wrote in the post that he didn’t want to take the story to the grave and that he was thankful for all the people who where curious about his stories.
@Wacky Heart it's because when you liked the comment it refreshed the comment and it shown that other people's liked the same comment during your time on the comment section.
Tbh if he was so paranoid to the point he wouldn't even Google their name, then how is he going to simply tell his whole personal story? It's even easier to track them from there than just by the Google search. Also, how you Google about deleting your post on the same account you intend deleting the post? Because it just raises too much suspicion. It'd be easier for him to just say he was trolling and tell people to forget it.
the last message gives it away, if cult actually took over the account, they wouldn't type the most ominous ass message ever, they would try to act like the person before actually changed his mind and that the cult wasn't actually a cult
@@Ogolutius actually some people in the comments have updated saying thats what his account just said. That its a fake story he said to see if others believed it
It's a hoax, why would the cult post something like that for him and try to save face when the name of it was never even exposed. They wouldn't care about the reddit post because it doesn't even implicate them
UPDATE:: Op posted! He did attend a screwed up camp like this, but it was not a cult. He was inspired to write this story by videos similar to this, and decided to update after seeing Nexpos video covering it, and shortly after he was given bad news from his doctor and wanted to come clean about this story before he passed. It has been two months since his update, and he has likely passed away. Thank you stranger for the spooky story, godspeed!
This is absolutely made up lol. Coming from a guy who admits that he makes up stories he decided that when faced with death that he cared to come clean about a fake story he made up 6 years ago on a throwaway account.
OP didn't attend any camp. In the update from 3 months ago he admitted it was entirely made up while he was bored at work, and that he just enjoys writing fictional creepy stories for reddit. The only thing that was true was the two men showing up at his house after he signed up as a kid, but his parents never let him go. Whether or not he's truly on his deathbed now is about as questionable as his first story, a classic boy who cried wolf scenario.
Yeah, they probably tracked him down and killed him or some shit, or blackmailed him, there's many methods they could've used. But I doubt this story is real.
Killing someone would bring far more heat to a cult than any Reddit post could possibly bring, so that wouldn't make sense. Assuming, of course, the purpose of the murder was to plug leaks and not for any other reason.
@@ryanvega9308 I meant heat from the cops not just the media. I was basically saying that a murder would bring way more attention from all kinda of places than any one person would by going to the media or posting online

Just dealing with people who are pretending to be your friends (or possibly believe they actually are) while manipulating your vulnerability/situation. My heart goes out to those that have been through anything like that.

I actually was a part of Teen Challenge for a whole four days. It was so weird.. they took my phone. Didn’t give me a jumpsuit but I wasn’t allowed to wear certain clothes. Every single aspect of our day was scheduled and we prayed all day. I wanted to go home and they insisted I stayed but I ended up demanding to call my mom to check in with her and told her to come get me. The lead lady then took the phone and explained to my mom that I was okay and didn’t need to be picked up... she came anyways. Thank god.
I lasted 17 days. Only because I was in a new city and my parents refused to help me home. Eventually I had to call their bluff and leave with no plan. I called from a Burger King a mile down the road and my dad agreed to drive the 4 hours to come get me because otherwise I would have been homeless in a new city.

That's a good life tip generally but there is no way you could sign a contract that makes you legally obligated to stay in any camping cult, rehab program, religious group, etc. Lmao
My brother was in Teen Challenge, and they did cut his hair. He went into camp not believing in God, but came back declaring he was saved. He does not talk about the experience, but has since fully abandoned Christianity.
The problem with this sects and cults is that they tarnish the image of Christianity by their heretic behaviour. i have a bit of a personal thought on him denying the request for a name. this is also in regards to him possibly having been overly paranoid. i am not a cult survivor, but i was kidnapped and held captive by an organized group, though i was a bit younger. in this story he was a victim of organized abuse. organized abuse shows up in many forms, but there's pretty much always the feeling of being trapped with no escape. with the way he describes them trying to prevent him from leaving with his parents, i feel like he likely did have the feeling of being unable to escape in this story. after experiencing organized abuse in any of its forms, you can definitely end up with some crazy paranoid delusions that feel 10000000% real. it's been over a decade since i got out and almost nightly i still get the intense, intrusive, fight-or-flight inducing thought that members of the group that got me are outside the window, outside the door, even in the vents. and isn't the vent thing ridiculous? i am fully aware that they definitely cannot get to me or even watch me through the vents. yet late at night, i can't sleep unless they're closed because of how real it still feels. i get paranoid that they're tracking me online as well, which is extremely unlikely for them as i don't think they were hackers themselves, especially not on that level. still, i tend to be overly anonymous online with different names and aesthetics for every single profile i have anywhere, not posting photos of myself anywhere, just in case. all my social media, apart from on more anonymous username-based platforms, is private. i use a VPN for anything personal. even in spite of the fact that you can't really reverse search searches, i dare not search or mention names of the group, their works or the members for many reasons, one of them being that i still fear they'll find me if i look it up. i hesitate to write certain words near each other and have developed an odd pattern of speech in type. i also believe it's possible he altered certain details for further anonymity, such as a parallel between the god from the testimonials and the gods he mentioned them worshipping or praying to. i wonder if some of these inconsistencies between his telling and the testimonials could've been purposeful in his need to share this heavy story, and he also mentioned that sharing too much would interfere with the investigation. if teen challenge were indeed the culprit, he could've very well altered those details to avoid his story being directly linked to the group, and it's generally effective in that we still don't know for sure. it's uncertain if the same can be said for how effective it was for the culprit in this story, though. and some more on paranoia. since it's been over ten years for me and i've been in therapy for it, i'm developing the ability to look at those thoughts before the adrenaline and tell myself to think realistically. why would they continuously search for me in particular now, over a decade later? i'm able to tell myself that i know that they're almost definitely not. i don't mean this in a self-deprecating way at all, but i just remind myself that i'm not that special, and it's a comfort. but i could not do that even just 3 years ago. in the moment, and particularly when i was essentially still in the heat of it like he is in this story with the ongoing investigation, i would see those people everywhere. on strangers, authority figures, clerks and even friends out of the corner of my eye, in corners, outside windows, in public, everywhere. it felt like i couldn't get away even when it was technically over. and i still perceive them in my everyday life sometimes. this poster was still in the middle of the investigation in the story, essentially living a life on the run from this organization merely 2 years later, so i feel it's safe to assume was likely experiencing a lot of stress that would hinder his ability to rationalize paranoid thoughts. it's beyond difficult to think realistically when you're battling that kind of monster. like i said, even to this day i still feel so much intense fear about this group who has likely long forgotten about me. however, the extent to which some would go to retain former members or captives is quite frightening. if he really was lured into a cult by this organization and traumatized, especially with a brain that's still developing and with that feeling of no escape, it's entirely possible that he was genuinely paranoid enough to avoid typing the name. hell, the paranoia about leaving the house rings true too, especially right after. just my thoughts and experience with post-captivity paranoia, though. my experience and the poster's story were very different, but it's something that i've found is pretty consistent among a lot of survivors who escape abusive cults, are released from captivity, or were otherwise once at the mercy of an organized and capable group: that unshakeable fear that you're going to end up back in that place because god knows how far they're willing to take it, even if it seems overly paranoid to those on the outside. in the end paranoia serves a purpose, to keep the paranoid safe. in the case that this guy was telling the truth, or even if he wasn't... i do hope he, or the person in the story, is somewhere safe now.
Yeah i thought of that as well and the way the last update about him returning to the cult was written it seemed like someone else who maybe wasn't very good at using the internet or wasn't familiar with how people tend to behave online. Or maybe it was a hoax, but even so it's interesting
So it's been awhile, but the original poster made an update. The story was fake, however not entirely fictional. The person made it up because of a sort of admiration for the fictional stories, and they were a teen, it was a funny story to make up and tell. The OP now has a terminal disease, and made an update discussing further the reasons why he did it, and thanking people for the unforgettable expirience he will take to the grave, it's worth a read. Just Google the username in the title.
he posted something on his account 2 weeks ago with a blurry picture of a couch im assuming and a title "where is the clock for the time of the journey of the journey is the clock of the journey of the journey of the journey of the"
I was going to say that I thought it was him, but the fact that it said "The message I posted" leads me to agree with you. Of course I would like to analyze everything that the account said and compare how it is written, but idk. Honestly, that last comment sounds a LOT more serious as compared to the more laidback writing of OP. Usually breaking up contraction words is used when there is a more serious or formal tone. In the original text, that was not the case. Unfortunately the second post (the message one) does not have any possible indications of this. The last obviously does. I could also see, if the people had gained access to his account, them asking how to delete it on there possibly to either see what people were saying and also to try to erase any suspicion- obviously that failed, but still. Overall I truly hope they are okay, but from what I see, they either abandoned the account after the people gained access, or are back in that "group" forcibly and being (POSSIBLY) either brainwashed heavily or tortured into compliance.
i know it’s been confirmed this is fictional, but the third theory could have been that due to his mental problems, he was relocated to this “camp” which was an actual inpatient treatment center and the change in routine/scenery/company triggered a paranoid psychotic break in which he’s trapped by a cult.
That's what Nexpo suggested isnt it? But I belive this as Op is clearly in touch with the internet and Reddit terms and wouldn't call it "message" but instead call it "post" when he was asking for how to delete it.
for the not being able to find information on the cult leader: When people get arrested for morally wrong things, the family of the person can pay a large sum of money for all news articles, posts, and other online things about the person to get deleted and/or covered up. So most likely the family of the cult leader payed a large sum of money to cover any information/news about what he did.
He posted again! He posted in r/dollphotography "hello I am fine thank you for your concern" nothing else, just that. Before that he posted some weird stuff in r/clocks but it's deleted now. It said "where is the clock for the time of the journey of the journey is the clock of the journey of the journey of the journey of the" and there was also a blurry picture! @@xjwr385 agreed! It's also strange how he posted it on a subreddit about photographing dolls, which is definitely not a place to post an "I am okay" message, which makes me think the cult posted it.
There's one thing I hope people can take away from this: hiding your location and name does NOT guarantee your anonymity. Your manner of speech, context clues, and even someone who recognizes the story can very quickly deanonymize you.
@Aurelia Sure the chances of someone linking your IRL info with an online account just by itself is low, but it can easily become one of various factors. Too many people assume that they can hide behind a username and can't be linked to their personal information.
nah, bru. I disagree. If you really wanna hide something, you can. You'll just have to be a little intelligent here. change your accent & shit and you're good. no one can do deanonymize you by your way of speech at least

I have friends from other countries and I've been friends with people who faked those for what ever reason. The group would know if he rejoined. Plus, they'd sooner find the thread via taking his phone than stumbling across it on Reddit. If they're smart enough to effectively track him, they wouldn't make his final post sound so ominous. They'd use more tact, like at least trying to mimic his writing pattern.
there's actually a third option: the story is real but his account wasn't taken over, he was just pulled back in and started to actually believe in the cult. plenty of people who initially escaped cults are then drawn back for one reason or another, at which point the cult indoctrination works that time, and the victim rescinds their earlier negative statements. edit: also, something like one of the leaders committing suicide wouldn't necessarily draw a lot of attention, because (1) this was likely just a recruitment operation and he was the leader of that specific branch, not the entire cult. and (2) a lot of cults don't draw a lot of media attention anyway. cults survive even in the modern day by staying out of the spotlight. it's completely plausible that this was just a smaller cult that isn't very well known outside of certain circles.
Assuming the story is true, because why not, he was probably tracked down either because of the reddit post or through legal means ( the contract thing is a dead giveaway that the cult likes to abuse the legal system) because of the investigation and criminal case against them. He ran away, so his "rerecruitment" was inevitable. There is no way they would give him access to his phone or the internet. Like the story mentions, it is common place for cults to seperate people from their contact with the outside world and while pretending to be said person tell everyone that everything is ok. The only reason they kept the phones and suitcases is because this was a recruitment operation and not actually joining the cult. You could probably leave after 5 weeks if you resisted the brainwashing somehow and actually wanted to. Again, the issue is for sure his running away, not that he didnt join. He is for sure alive and well if story is true and the cult has probably contacted police letting them know that for him. The way it ended actually sells it more not less, because that is exactly what a cult would do. There is no reason to act like that being an unnamed group other than just a cult operating under standard culty robotic procedure and having to let the world know actually everything is great.
@@thetalkingfist9482 if they can track him down he isn’t safe, ever. Absolutely. He ran away, which is the ultimate no-no in the cult world, forcing his compliance is a big deal to a group that doesn’t want people to walk away let alone run. They probably weren’t actively looking for him again before the post though. Cult intimidation tactics are intense and relentless but they don’t last very long. He made himself a threat again by sharing his story.
Also, Scientology do have a camp-like programme. Jenna Miscavige-Hill talks about it in her autobiography. It seems that it’s closed now though, and I don’t imagine they’d appeal to “the gods”. If this story is true, it’s chilling…

For the “how do I delete a message” post, he may be talking about a private message or even a message on a different app. Also, about the part where the group attacked him right when he came out of the house: OP was the (first?) person that ran away, exposed, and defied the group. Of course the group would be watching and waiting to get revenge on him and his family.

Yo lol if this is true it makes this whole case like atleast twice as alarming as it seems, and I do think it's pretty possible that a lot of cults would try to find members specifically with already existing mental health problems at a young age, making them seemingly easier to brainwash / manipulate, than a normal functioning person.

I was put through Teen Challenge against my will for a year. I watched some of the most terrible abuse and discrimination there. One of the most memorable things was praying over a Jewish patient to rid him of the anti-christ and watching fellow workers drop from the flu because they didn't want to pay medical bills. Finally, forcing you up at 3am to memorize scripture and failing to do so will get you completely cut off from your family. This is done to wear you down and keep you from being able to question what is happening to you. I survived only by the willpower of my progressive PO. @@jimjimsauce because when he says that they were arrested, the parents and him let them know who he was, what he had done, and told them about some cult
However, the guy was arrested for harrassment correct? And if the cult was something like the teens challenge thing I doubt the media would go out of it's way to claim that the group was a cult. Especially with how big it is. All they'd have is that a man who was arrested for harrassment, when released then killed himself and on the side he was apart of an organization that claimed to help troubled teens. I'm just not sure if the media would be interested.
AnimeL0v3r AndPotatos plus he could have just been the leader of the local camp and not a major person in the cult. You don’t hear news talk about people working with cults dying unless it’s the current leader or some other important person in the cult.
I think it's possible that, if this story is true, the poster may have replaced "God" with "gods" in order to conceal the organization's connection to Christianity, and thus, avoid people associating it with Teen Challenge so that they wouldn't be subject to further problems with the group for revealing the story.
@@clanofclams2720 It's amazing how many people think "Satanism" literally means you worship the lords of hell, and how few of those people do any research before spouting bullshit.
I know this video is a couple of years old but, I think a more likely group would be "Kenja Communications." It's an Australian-based cult that has been known to target mentally ill young people, taking them to "training facilities" for meditation lessons and some sort of energy conversion. One of the leaders, Ken Dyers, committed suicide in 2007 while on bail, this could also link it to the user's story. This is assuming the story is true and not just made up though.
It’s rather odd that this person is apparently so concerned about their anonymity and too paranoid to even Google the name, but then writes and posts a whole ass reddit post about the ordeal in detail, thereby compromising his anonymity; the cult leaders would read it and immediately know it’s him, revealing that him and his family have moved and now have new identities, not to mention idiolect.
I know this is an old video but the 2nd post intrigued me and giving me a what if and it's What if the one who is asking on how to delete the post is not OP anymore.
btw in early 2023 an update was posted to the account admitting that they lied about it and they were just bored while listening to a true crime podcast, loosely inspired by some pushy guys who wanted OP to go to a summer camp when he was younger. so mystery solved, it was faked all along and OP just wanted something to do at their office job.
For anyone interested, here’s some of my experiences from the teen challenge I attended (I was in an all girls adolescent center): To start with, the program length is 15 months. When you first get there, a staff member and two students go through all of your belongings, and make you try on all the clothes you brought to make sure they’re in guideline. They do a body check and mark down any tattoos/marks/scars in your body. For your first three weeks, you can’t send or receive letters from home and once you can everything is read and scammed before sent out or given to you. No phone calls for your first month, then after that you get one 20 minute phone call to your parents every other week which is on speaker and monitored and staff members take notes on what you talk about- if they don’t like what or how you’re talking they can hang up the call. Everything is assigned, we had to stand in lines and even our place in line was assigned. The rule book we and our parents received says multiple times not to trust your “student” (never your child, always student) and to verify anything they say with their counselor. We had guidelines and rules on what we could and couldn’t say or talk about. We had family visits every other month for a weekend, and those could be taken away at a moments notice. I was once told I had to eat food I had thrown up. We are expired food before. I could go on, but this is really just a glimpse of what it was like.
My theories: A) The most logical and plausible: it's all fake. B) His last post, where he claims that he joined the cult again, was made by the very same user, and it was to avoid answering another users' questions or to stop any possible contact with the cult (as he was paranoid, he may have thought they were spying on him and he decided to write that to lure them into thinking he rejoined the cult so they lose interest in him). C) The police noticed what he posted and told him to just say he rejoined the club so he doesn't give any more information about the topic so the police investigation is still a secret.
Your B and C points don't make sense. According to OP, these cult leaders searched for him for months, so he must be of some importance to them, either by exposing them or being needed for their stupid ritual crap. Do you really think these people could easily be fooled that OP is back in the cult? As for your C point, OP already said that the police are investigating the cult, and one of the leaders got arrested and then suicided after he got bailed. The only thing that could still be a secret about the police investigation is how close they are to actually arresting the people involved in the cult.
BN_Andrew about the b thing, what they mean is that the cult leaders don’t know it was specifically him writing that post so if he pretends he rejoin the cult, the cult leaders won’t be looking for the poster, figure out it’s him, and double down even harder on getting him
I was thinking B or C also. Glad I'm not the only one. It seems unbelievable, but...its not like there havent been horror stories coming out about scientology and how they literally hunt people down and ruin their lives in some way after leaving. Just saying, it's not unbelievable that they wouldnt hunt him down for an extra long time going through extra lengths just because we already know some groups do. I was actually thinking scientology, but...the teen one makes sense, too, especially if they have a sense of power given from the state (kid found out about it from school, after all). The teen one makes even more sense to me, and idk, am curious if it's real, or if he found out they caught on and changed it up quick to continue hiding, or get them off their back. Also, let's not forget a certain church who has no problem protesting in large groups and causing problems at events such as funerals. So the part about a bunch of them waiting for him and practically jumping him does match up with other religious groups. I would be very interested to find out if it's real or not.
The fact that this video was able to lure me in with such a simple thumbnail and title is still so confusing to me. Either way a very nicely made video and like I said it was able to just magically draw me in, so super good work!
The tracksuits is classic de-personalisation. Anything or anyone that tries to systematically strip your individualisation and sense of person from you is undoubtedly nefarious. It's often the basis of why racism and prejudice is awful- they have removed the essence of you being _you_ and made you just "One of ____". It's the first step in all cults (and Fascist cults of personality), you remove people's sense of being an indivdual and they are left with nothing but herd mentality. It's the biggest things Brave New World, Fahrenheit 451 and 1984 all have in common- the sense of self is removed (albeit by different methods).
@@josiahmartinez7674 Actually, in a sense yes. You want to train these people to depend on each other for their lives- you want them to exist as a cohesive unit, not as a group of individuals. That's part of the "Break them down to build them back up" mantra- it doesn't sound pleasant when you talk about this aspect of it though. You are training people to go _towards_ potential death simply because of a sense of duty. You want to kill that little self-analytical voice that says "Hang on a second," so they follow orders before it arrives- the people that keep questioning things are kicked out early. I'm in no way criticising it- it's a method for a necessary profession- but that is part of the reality. It's also one of the reasons so many people who leave the military struggle without the group dynamic- they are cut off from that thing they were taught to treasure almost above their own lives.
This is actually an interesting point about school uniforms. A lot of schools past and present train children to be an ideal citizen. You are taught from as young as 5 years old to not steal, don't hit people, don't tell lies, trust your parents and teachers. These things are innocent enough. But in some places it can be more controlling. Even in the USA, I believe they forced students to recite the national anthem everyday (maybe not anymore, I don't live there so); they are taught to not question their country and that it could do no wrong. People who refuse (a notable example is Kaepernick taking the knee during a game) are treated like criminals for breaking the mold that no one has questioned since they were 5 or 6 years old. This is very obviously the case in places like North Korea and China, but people underestimate just how much it still goes on across Europe and the USA. Here in the UK most primary, secondary schools have a uniform. But I believe in places like the USA, uniforms are mandatory in religious schools. Because religion being forced on by unknowing children is just a form of control.

He uses the spelling "mum" instead of "mom" which leaves the UK or Australia, but then he mentions he moves states, and they don't have states or provinces in England. so my bet is on him being Australian. Also, I've done studies into writing and text psychology, and the language and writing style he uses lines up more with Australian dialect than UK dialect. just my observation.

i have a bit of a personal thought on him denying the request for a name. this is also in regards to him possibly having been overly paranoid. i am not a cult survivor, but i was kidnapped and held captive by an organized group, though i was a bit younger. in this story he was a victim of organized abuse. organized abuse shows up in many forms, but there's pretty much always the feeling of being trapped with no escape. with the way he describes them trying to prevent him from leaving with his parents, i feel like he likely did have the feeling of being unable to escape in this story.
after experiencing organized abuse in any of its forms, you can definitely end up with some crazy paranoid delusions that feel 10000000% real. it's been over a decade since i got out and almost nightly i still get the intense, intrusive, fight-or-flight inducing thought that members of the group that got me are outside the window, outside the door, even in the vents. and isn't the vent thing ridiculous? i am fully aware that they definitely cannot get to me or even watch me through the vents. yet late at night, i can't sleep unless they're closed because of how real it still feels.
i get paranoid that they're tracking me online as well, which is extremely unlikely for them as i don't think they were hackers themselves, especially not on that level. still, i tend to be overly anonymous online with different names and aesthetics for every single profile i have anywhere, not posting photos of myself anywhere, just in case. all my social media, apart from on more anonymous username-based platforms, is private. i use a VPN for anything personal. even in spite of the fact that you can't really reverse search searches, i dare not search or mention names of the group, their works or the members for many reasons, one of them being that i still fear they'll find me if i look it up. i hesitate to write certain words near each other and have developed an odd pattern of speech in type.
i also believe it's possible he altered certain details for further anonymity, such as a parallel between the god from the testimonials and the gods he mentioned them worshipping or praying to. i wonder if some of these inconsistencies between his telling and the testimonials could've been purposeful in his need to share this heavy story, and he also mentioned that sharing too much would interfere with the investigation. if teen challenge were indeed the culprit, he could've very well altered those details to avoid his story being directly linked to the group, and it's generally effective in that we still don't know for sure. it's uncertain if the same can be said for how effective it was for the culprit in this story, though.
and some more on paranoia. since it's been over ten years for me and i've been in therapy for it, i'm developing the ability to look at those thoughts before the adrenaline and tell myself to think realistically. why would they continuously search for me in particular now, over a decade later? i'm able to tell myself that i know that they're almost definitely not. i don't mean this in a self-deprecating way at all, but i just remind myself that i'm not that special, and it's a comfort. but i could not do that even just 3 years ago. in the moment, and particularly when i was essentially still in the heat of it like he is in this story with the ongoing investigation, i would see those people everywhere. on strangers, authority figures, clerks and even friends out of the corner of my eye, in corners, outside windows, in public, everywhere. it felt like i couldn't get away even when it was technically over. and i still perceive them in my everyday life sometimes. this poster was still in the middle of the investigation in the story, essentially living a life on the run from this organization merely 2 years later, so i feel it's safe to assume was likely experiencing a lot of stress that would hinder his ability to rationalize paranoid thoughts. it's beyond difficult to think realistically when you're battling that kind of monster. like i said, even to this day i still feel so much intense fear about this group who has likely long forgotten about me. however, the extent to which some would go to retain former members or captives is quite frightening. if he really was lured into a cult by this organization and traumatized, especially with a brain that's still developing and with that feeling of no escape, it's entirely possible that he was genuinely paranoid enough to avoid typing the name. hell, the paranoia about leaving the house rings true too, especially right after.
just my thoughts and experience with post-captivity paranoia, though. my experience and the poster's story were very different, but it's something that i've found is pretty consistent among a lot of survivors who escape abusive cults, are released from captivity, or were otherwise once at the mercy of an organized and capable group: that unshakeable fear that you're going to end up back in that place because god knows how far they're willing to take it, even if it seems overly paranoid to those on the outside.
in the end paranoia serves a purpose, to keep the paranoid safe. in the case that this guy was telling the truth, or even if he wasn't... i do hope he, or the person in the story, is somewhere safe now.

I was just thinking that
for the not being able to find information on the cult leader: When people get arrested for morally wrong things, the family of the person can pay a large sum of money for all news articles, posts, and other online things about the person to get deleted and/or covered up. So most likely the family of the cult leader payed a large sum of money to cover any information/news about what he did.

He’s recently posted on Reddit again
holy crap this was a good late night listen, thank you
There is also a third theory that he is damage controlling himself by making it look like he has been taken when he hasn't to cover his tracks
Thank you for you fucking common sense. It seems like we are in the midst of a tyler glockner community here nowadays.
@@DrGreerIsRight yeah hes just trying give himself an escape from the curious mob
Nice try there team leader but we're on to you
What about his user name has an easy password... Like password
The group would know if he rejoined. Plus, they'd sooner find the thread via taking his phone than stumbling across it on Reddit.
If they're smart enough to effectively track him, they wouldn't make his final post sound so ominous. They'd use more tact, like at least trying to mimic his writing pattern.
there's actually a third option: the story is real but his account wasn't taken over, he was just pulled back in and started to actually believe in the cult. plenty of people who initially escaped cults are then drawn back for one reason or another, at which point the cult indoctrination works that time, and the victim rescinds their earlier negative statements.
edit: also, something like one of the leaders committing suicide wouldn't necessarily draw a lot of attention, because (1) this was likely just a recruitment operation and he was the leader of that specific branch, not the entire cult. and (2) a lot of cults don't draw a lot of media attention anyway. cults survive even in the modern day by staying out of the spotlight. it's completely plausible that this was just a smaller cult that isn't very well known outside of certain circles.
oh boy
But look at the wording for that last update. No contractions, unlike everything he’s posted previously
@@Luminousreign so if they can track him down, does that mean there’s no escape?
I don't think any Christian group would ever thank "the Gods" as that would be pagan.

I think it's possible that, if this story is true, the poster may have replaced "God" with "gods" in order to conceal the organization's connection to Christianity, and thus, avoid people associating it with Teen Challenge so that they wouldn't be subject to further problems with the group for revealing the story.

@@plane2delos does this apply to Australia
For anyone interested, here’s some of my experiences from the teen challenge I attended (I was in an all girls adolescent center):
To start with, the program length is 15 months. I could go on, but this is really just a glimpse of what it was like.
that sounds terrible. which TC did you go to, like what location?
juupitrr Columbus Georgia
I hope you are doing okay now
I'm literally speechless. that's so disgusting on so many levels.
Sounds like a residential school
My theories:
A) The most logical and plausible: it's all fake.
BN_Andrew about the b thing, what they mean is that the cult leaders don’t know it was specifically him writing that post so if he pretends he rejoin the cult, the cult leaders won’t be looking for the poster, figure out it’s him, and double down even harder on getting him
What if the message was posted by him, and he had rejoined the cult as he thought it was the only way to stop them chasing him and his family.
D: he’s fucking dead
I’m really glad that you pointed out the large holes in his story the I was screaming the whole time
The fact that this video was able to lure me in with such a simple thumbnail and title is still so confusing to me.
So I guess Marine Corps boot camp is a cult lol
It's also one of the reasons so many people who leave the military struggle without the group dynamic- they are cut off from that thing they were taught to treasure almost above their own lives.
.
@@goingunder2548 yeah we're forced to recite the pledge of allegiance while holding our right hand to our heart and looking at the flag while we say it. I don't really think much about it but now that I think about it its weird
