My 2 brothers were in Grant Park just before the riot. I would have been with them if I had not just joined the Navy to avoid the draft and being killed in Vietnam. I'm now rated "100% Totally and Permanently Disabled - Agent Orange - Secondary Exposure - drinking water" by the Veterans Administration. So, a part of me is still living the situations of 1968. And, after working 44 years, my Retirment is ruined. Check out the truth about LBJ. JFK wanted a full withdrawal from Vietnam by Christmas 1964. After JFK was killed, LBJ wanted to go into Vietnam and "...kick their ass." (Exact Quote) Think of what the USA could have been for the last 59 years in there were no Vietnam "Conflict". No "Democratic Convention", No "Kent State", No "Spit On The Baby Killers". And on, and on...
Pizza Spins were part of General Mills' snack line for 1968, along with Bugles, Daisies and Whistles. They were all okay, but only Bugles are still available today.
Classical Gas is a 1960's masterpiece. Thank you Fred for this flashback.1968 is a rough year, with the riots, and the Olympic Games but something needs fresh, Here Comes The Brides Mod Squad, Julia, etc.
I was sweet 16 in 1968 just starting High School ! Thanks for the memories as always! This channel is why I still watch You-Tube and probably why You-Tube still thrives! ♥
In a chaotic and volatile year for America and the World, I think the former laughing stock TV Network ABC had a great year. 1968 was the year that permanently put them as a serious challenger to both NBC and CBS. Especially for their widely praised coverage of the RFK Assassination and the controversial and yet historic 1968 Mexico City Olympics. Plus the groundbreaking show “Mob Squad” as well. ABC was basically grew up in 1968 becoming the home of Baby Boomer demographic.
That year was turbulent! The Summer of Love, a year before, was long gone. I remember it was shocking how the police were brutal with the nightsticks at the '68 Democratic Convention. People were still reeling from the RFK and MLK assassinations, emotionally stressed. Hard rock and progressive rock were taking over, but The Beatles were still cranking out amazing music.
Never heard of Pizza Spins. I guess humans did resist it. Wow, what a turbulent year. Love the song People Got to be Free. Mars Needs Women is wonderfully cheesy. Andrea Dromm was in The Russians are Coming. Starting and ending song is Classical Gas. Great stuff, Fred.
I remember Ugliest Girl in Town and of course Mod Squad. I remember Bugles , but not Pizza Spins. I think I remember seeing a TV commercial for a similar snack called "Clackers."
1968 was the year the world went mad. From Czechoslovakia to Chicago, the madness was apparent & we were knee deep in the Vietnam quagmire. Good thing I was too young to complain...👶 Thanks, FredFlix.
August of 1968 I was playing football for Hoover High School of Fresno California. Best years of my life. Times were beginning to change for the worse from when I was a kid in the 50s and 60s. But I still had a blast 💥 in High School. Thank you Fred for bringing us some great memories. 👍🏻❤️
@@bucksdiaryfan yes and by the grace of God I didn’t get called up. My cousin did. Went to Vietnam and was fortunate to come home but he was never his happy self again unless he was smoking his weed. Sad.
I've watched it...I recall it's Peter Bogdanovich's first movie as director. And I'd say it was definitely inspired by the Whitman shooting. Very good movie, and Boris Karloff did a fantastic job as the jaded horror movie star wondering how his imaginary horrors can compete in a world with very real horrors.
What a great musical selection to start off Aug of 68, "Classical Gas" by Mason Williams. That instrumental won Mason 3 Grammy awards in 1968 and like the song title says, it's a classic, and has such great staying power that I enjoy listening to it still today on a regular basis. Nicely done Mr. FredFlix.
God, Classical Gas! And on a very second position Sunshine of your Love and Bend Me, Shape Me. Yeah, the Sun did it! 🤭 '68... The year I met my first big crush. Who else but my then best friend's brother. Great dancer. Hope he's doing fine, seriously. Thanks, Fred-ssi. 💜🤟
Wow, now I know where the late Art Bell got some of his bumper music. I must have heard The American Breed (and this song in particular) hundreds of times on his nightly program over the many years he was on. RIP Art we miss you!
The Beautiful Andrea Dromm... Yeoman Smith in the (2nd) Star Trek Pilot, Where No Man Has Gone Before. Loving these videos Fred. A lot has changed, but a lot of things (mostly the bad things) haven't. Russian invasions, War, political riots... Good Times!

Another great period piece Fred…and those news clips, are you sure you didn’t tape last night’s six o’clock news? Mason Williams ( Classical Gas ) was one of the writers from the Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour.
Did a deep dive on Pizza Spins. Discontinued in 1975, it still has a devoted following on Facebook. No one really explains any weakness in the snack that caused its demise. I suppose it just never caught on big enough, like Sour Cream and Onion Doritos
@@FredFlix Amazing. It seems to me that much of this must come from the pre VCR days, unless you were a very early adopter of said technology. At any rate, I am deeply enjoying your work and wish to support you.
@@wicklunda If you want to donate, feel free. But no worries either way. A lot of the old 16mm film clips were collected by many TV fans and transferred to video tape (even though many films were faded). I tried to watch Mars Needs Women once but it was so bad only made it half way through. It starred Tommy Kirk who was in a lot of Disney movies as a kud.
My theory on Pizza Spins: pizza has an addictive taste because of its combination of fats and carbs and their appeal to the primitive brain. You simply can’t replicate that combination in a snack chip
8:15 Curt Flood's effort, while unsuccessful for himself, ultimately led to the end of the reserve clause in baseball, making players no longer the complete property of their teams.

I'm a Boomer. The year 1968 still impacts my life, how I see this country and the world today, and how I vote.
