- Update: After I finished this video, some new information came out. Apparently, Ream Stories is facing some litigation (I'm not sure about what, as they only vaguely refer to some safety issues and questions about AI), and had to let some team members go. In the announcement video, Emilia Rose/Destiny Patnode is clear about the fact that she is a co-founder. You can watch the video here: www.loom.com/s...
I was very hyped about joining Ream Stories, but the more time I spent poking around on the website, the more issues started making themselves known. Eventually, a really big transparency issue popped up.
Some might not think of this as a big deal, but to me it's a massive issue. Alongside the other issues, I just can't see Ream as a viable platform for me.
Some notes:
In the email where they announced Emilia Rose/Destiny Patnode as the new CEO, they did not name her as a founder.
As mentioned in the video, I found a FAQ page on the forum linked via the website's footer mentioning that Emilia Rose is a co-founder. This is not mentioned anywhere else. Not even Emilia Rose's website mentions that she co-founded Ream Stories.

UPDATE 2: They held a town hall yesterday, where they made some comments on some of my points. There are a lot of "I think" and "I believe", so it didn't leave me very confident. Regarding analytics, Emilia Rose/Desitny Patnode said "I think we'll probably get to those towards the end of the year as well". Hi. Thank you for this video. I've been trying to find information about what has happened.
I just wanted to say that I didn't know that they don't mention anywhere on the Ream website that Emilia is a co-founder, but on most of their videos on their RUclips channels for Ream and Subscriptions for Authors and in their Million Reads Serial Lab course, they tell their story of how they got started and it is made very clear that Emilia Rose, Sean Patnode, and Michael Evans are the co-founders of Ream.
Thank you for the info! I'm glad that they're honest about it in the videos and such, but I stand by my point that it's something that needs to be clear on the website and on webinars since that is usually people's first introduction to the service.
Very informative. Thank you. I'm trying to decide on a subscription service now. I was leaning toward Ream, but now I'm re-considering Patreon. I understand Patreon problems, but they've stood the test of time. With so many different content creators there, it is definitely more viable as a long-term option.
Happy to help! And yes, I had the same thought and settled on Patreon for now too.
Thanks for this video. I've been considering moving to Ream from Patreon. Good to know this site is yet another 'minimum viable product' being touted as a full-fledged product or service. I've been burned too many times by sites that market their roadmap features as if they are already implemented and fully-featured.
Yeah, I was really excited to join but the reality was a huge let-down. Maybe in a year or two? Would you mind telling me why you're thinking of moving off Patreon? I just joined, so I'm curious about what it lacks. :)
@@NarraTale This is the comparison video I watched before yours and deciding to stay. The TL;DW is Patreon lacks author-specific features and seems uninterested in adding them. ruclips.net/video/gmBX85VduYo/видео.htmlsi=TyaAcrojDFIQBpMo
Thank you! I'll check it out :D
I just thought of something else I wanted to say. The millions of reads they talk about on Emilia's stories is from Wattpad, before they started Ream.
Oh wow. That makes it a lot worse. I appreciate you giving me more information
you are totally correct. jury wayyy out on ream, its very poor looking at first look
It definitely has a way to go.
