I do not think NJ would have traded for Markstrom unless Ullmark has NJ on his no-trade list.
A lot of people seem to be assuming that NJ is not on Ullmark’s no-trade list, but I am fairly sure NJ is on his list.

You would’ve thought Ullmark would like New Jersey it’s still in the northeast and the location is good- I hope Ullmark is just trying to get a great contract extension -

14:11 agree that McAvoy is at his best 5v5. It’s very odd that an elite NHL defenseman would not be key to one of the two types of special teams, but that does seem to be the case for #73. He does his best work 5v5, plain and simple. It might be overly optimistic to presume that a 23 year-old Mason Lohrei can successfully quarterback the Bruins’ powerplay… but given McAvoy’s mediocrity in that role (and his excellence at 5v5), perhaps that’s the best path forward for the roster.

McAvoy is wasted on the PP. He has no aptitude for it. Lohei should be on PP1 for 1:30 of a 2:00 PP.

No way the 7th pick is in the play for Ullmark, I see Chycrun, the 25th pick and Branstrom for Ullmark conditional on an extension.

Agree that ANY useful NHL level skater plus either of Ottawa’s two first round picks would be a boon for Boston, in exchange for Ullmark, considering the $5M in cap space gained through the transaction. If that’s on the table, and Ullmark agrees, it has to happen. 10:03
The Bruins currently have three forwards that NHL pro scouts would consider to be legitimate top-six forwards: Pastrnak, Marchand, and Zacha. Coyle is a borderline 4th top-six forward. The B’s need to acquire two top six forwards this summer, via free agency or trade, and extend Jeremy Swayman’s contract. Sweeney is going to need every bit of cap space that he can muster, either for spending this summer, or next summer.

They want BOS to take Chychrun @$4.6M & Anton Forsberg (another goalie) @ $2.75M. I say keep 'em and we'll see everyone next playoffs with our two goalies.

I don’t understand why the Ottawa roster is considered to be drastically worse than the New Jersey roster. Yes, Hughes is a potential franchise center, but so is Stützle. A top-six of Tkachuk, Stützle, Batherson, Norris, Giroux, and a free agent wing is pretty good… arguably just as good (or better??) compared to what the Bruins have in Pastrnak, Zacha, Marchand, Coyle plus two free agent forwards. The Senators right-side defense is a bit thin behind Zub, but their left-side defense is great, featuring Sanderson, Chabot, & Chychrun.
Goaltending wasn’t the Senators only problem this past season, but it was, by far, the most glaring and obvious problem. Ottawa with Ullmark isn’t a Cup contender, but they would be a playoff team.

Ullmark on Ottawa & DeBrusk free agent to Toronto, I can't see this coming back to haunt the Bruins.

If I’m Boston I wouldn’t take forsburg back . I would take kaposalo and make Ottawa give you the 7 pick for taking the contract . The trade would be
Boston gets 7, chychuran, kapisalo, pinto
    Ottawa gets Ullmark and poitras

If the proposed trade is Chychrun and Forsberg and a bottom #1 pick for Ullmark, keep your lot and we'll see you in the playoffs, again, next year. Chychrun carries a $4.6M CH and Forsberg a $2.75M CH. What would they do with Forsberg besides pay him? They are just signing Bussi, now. Why just take on Chychrun instead of shopping around? Does Donny want to pay this guy $4.6M and then resign him for more?

    • @SomeOne-uy4kj
      @SomeOne-uy4kj 4 месяца назад

Chychrun will be looking for $7M-$8M according to the hockey news. He might make for a good trade to a team looking to strengthen their playoff run (ie a rental) next year. If they are not going to pay this guy what he's looking for, then why take him on for a year. And that's especially true for Forsberg who probably would not beat out Bussi.

    • @Gordoff-44

BUT you won't see the SENS in the playoffs, yet again! LOL.

The question really should be, why wouldn't Linus Ullmark accept a trade to the Ottawa Senators at this point?
If Linus Ullmark actually cares about his next contract being for as long and for as much money as possible, a trade to Ottawa gives him that very option!!!
There is no other guaranteed path for Ullmark to ensure that he gets a long term contract at an AAV of $6-$7M for 2025 and beyond, than to agree to an extension with Ottawa as part of any trade with Boston
Even if they can't work out an extension now, Ullmark would still be better off being the starter in Ottawa versus the backup in Boston where he likely wouldn't supplant Swayman in any scenario except injury
Ullmark and his agent know he's not in Boston's plans for 2025 and beyond, so why not set him up for the biggest AAV & term as possible by accepting a trade to either Ottawa or somewhere else & preferably signing an extension immediately?
At some point Ullmark's agent has to wake him up to the above facts and based on reports that Ullmark is now entertaining waiving his NTC, it sure seems like common sense is beginning to take hold
Forgot about the #7 pick in this years draft from Ottawa though
    Why?
For One, Ottawa has to forfeit their 1st round pick in either 2025 or 2026 as league punishment for the Evengni Dadonov screw up
Secondly, Ottawa didn't draft in the 1st round in 2023 or 2022 so they kind of need as much high 1st round draft capital as they can get right now
So again, forget about Ottawa giving up the #7 pick for Ullmark, that won't be happening
However, here are some acceptable and or more realistic returns for Ullmark from Ottawa
-Just the #25 pick in the 1st round of the 2024 draft and the Cap Space
-#25 in the 1st round & Jacob Chychrun
-#25 in the 1st round and Shane Pinto
    -Chychrun & OTT's 2nd 2024 round pick, #39
    -Pinto & OTT's 2nd 2024 round pick, #39
    -Just Chychrun
    -Just Pinto
Turning Linus Ullmark, a player that will not be with the Bruins in 2025 or beyond and a player that is now the clear back up to Jeremy Swayman into any of the above....
Even if it were to just be a straight up swap for either Chychrun or Pinto, would be.a HUGE WIN!!!
I don't think the Bruins would get #25 and either Chychrun or Pinto. That seems like an overpay too unless Boston sends something else OTT's way. Not impossible but it does seem less likely
However, one of Chychrun or Pinto and the #39 pick in this year's NHL draft seems like a very reasonable return that would work for both teams
And before someone says NJ gave up #10 for Markstrom... Wrong, The pick is Top 10 protected so no they didn't and two, Markstrom had term on his deal
The Bruins better pray Ottawa or some other team works something out for Ullmark because if they don't he'll just be an overpaid back up that will walk for nothing as a free agent at the end of next year
At that point he'd just serve as another asset that Don Sweeney failed to maximize a return on despite having the time and resources to do so
So the Louis Erickson, Torey Krug and soon to be Jake Debrusk plans.
Not moving players for assets although you have no plans to re-sign said player, than said player just walks out the door for nothing in return as a UFA
Don Sweeney doesn't need to add another player to that crap list of his and I don't think he will
Ottawa needs to solve their long term goal tending problem and the Bruins could help them do that while also helping themselves.
It seems like it should happen but will it?
Who knows but I sure hope it does. Give me just Chychrun or just Pinto in return. Adding anything else to the Ulmark deal would just be gravy at that point!!!

A goalie's numbers can be bolstered by the team they play for. Ullmark's numbers in Boston have been fantastic partly because of Boston's defensive style. (Not to take anything away from Linus, he's played fantastic as well) And let's be honest, even if Swayman is considered to be the #1, if you have Linus Ullmark on your bench why would you not give him around 40 games? It just provides more rest for Swayman to be ready for the playoffs.
I believe he is worried about being traded to a team who isn't as good defensively and essentially losing the progress towards that bigger contract he built up over the course of his contract if he has a bad year.
He might be more willing if it's a sign/trade scenario but, that has to wait until Jul 1st when the Bruins are allowed to sign him to an extension.

Ullmark has to be one of the dumbest signings by Sweeney. He sucked at Play-offs, then needed a Rotation to be effective, then don't play when it matters. Now he still dictates where he plays. haha Sweeney will blow this.
As soon Ullmark is gone if I was Swayman and have the Bruins by the balls, I want 9 million a year. Another gamble for a guy who only performed OK in Play-offs. Shesterkin played better and wants 11 million.

Dumbest signing? A 5 million a year free agent we picked up that happened to win a Vezina trophy and should get us a nice return. Wish we had more dumb signings like that.
