Thank you for being that kind of person who fixes an $80.00 hand unit on your own time and money. This is why we should teach kids electronics in school.
You are the best. Aside from all the amazing repairs you do, you have showed me and many others I'm sure, how to think about repair without whining because you don't have a schematic. That is invaluable.
Hope the motor isn't screwed up, causing an overcurrent. Sure seems odd that both switches would fail like that. You'd think one would fail and then that function wouldn't be used anymore.
Mobility scooter batteries are ordinary lead acid units, but you buy them from the supplier they are 5 times the price. For a regular 17Ah 12V unit, with 2 in series. Those switches will last better with a simple RC snubber across the contacts, 10R and 100n 500V ceramic disk will do, and last pretty much forever with a low voltage supply.
Amazon has some no-name controllers that should work. I had a chair that was missing the control and got a replacement for cheap. There are some controllers with more buttons but still use a 5-pin DIN.
I use a nice metal pair of scissors/snips for all stripping (I know I know, can and would be so much easier with proper tool but works ok - doing with same tool since a kid, and always provide relief with other hand if connected wire or cable.) It looks similar to yours but I don't have any grooves in them and the outside edges are smooth. :) The manufacturer's intent was simply just for paper, I think. To cut metal, perhaps a little bigger than what you cut here, I have a pair of medium-size bolt cutters which decimates all it sees. hahaha
Electric wheelchair has a joystick like controller. Get one of those and study it. You will find it fascinating and with your knowledge it will be a piece of cake. But do a video on it because many people struggle with it yet it is simple.
Is it the same problem If the switch doesn’t works intermittently? I have a chair that will stop going up but then after some time it starts working again.
@@Sans_Solo_ used to wear contacts. I was wearing just sun glaaaes and a truck roared past me the other way and kicked s huge cloud of dust in my face. I couldn't see a thing.
@@12voltvids Yes I understand....and if I road my bike on a busy street probably would use goggles in conjunction with the helmet....but where I live there is a nice dedicated bike path (Loveland Ohio) (with stops along the way with food and beer!)
@Taco that's why I wear safety glasses that completely cover including the sides. Only thing that would be better is open cockpit aviator goggles with a seal around the face. I have both tinted and clear for low light / night riding even though I never ride after dark. I am a perfect weather rider only. If there is a chance if even drizzle I am not going out on the bike.
Do you really thing I already didn't do that. Nothing under black light (UVA) and nothing under IR light using a Kaya optics PF1 filter. It's NOT canceled.

Sometimes schematics are required and other times not.

Love it that you did a teardown off faulty part
Always nice to keep the mother-in-law happy. Cheers, Dave!

Yes i visit Lee's regularly. Also RP electronics in Burnaby

Thanks for the video!

A repair I'd do!
Nice work!
Would be interesting to see what they drive .

I would imagine that the switches connect to relay coils and every back emf spark event mounts up.
Well worth the repair dave :-D

Dave : why 5 wires and not just 3 ?
Me : for the Mother In-law , 2 extra wires one for shock and one for 007 eject ! (Mother in-law jokes)
NICE CAT INTRO!!!!! Yup, seems like too much current going through those micro switches. Dave, wait for the wireless version of the controller!
Control from your phone.

The switches can certainly go intermittent. Contacts get pitted.
Radio Shack sold microswitches like the ones you got.
Yes definitely wear safety glasses when clipping metal!
Another time to wear safety glasses, when riding a bike.

Do you think those were nonstandard switches just so you cannot easily replace them?
No, they were pretty standard.
Where can I get a pair of snips like that??
Home Depot.
@@12voltvids Thanks!!!
looks like they used the same cable from an AT keyboard.
Could be.
Shine a UV light at the stamp. Now you see the canceled.
