Fantastic video, easy to follow when you already have the Solidworks basics. I really appreciate it as I have been looking for how to create a spherical profile helical extruded cut for a while.

If you don't need any shapes other than spheres, there's another way to make a spherical spiral in SolidWorks that I found some time after I made this video. I've forgotten the details, but, as I recall, there's a way to make an "equation driven curve" (or maybe it's an "expression driven curve" or "formula driven curve", something like that) in SolidWorks. There is also an equation that will create a spherical spiral... I just don't have the foggiest idea what it might be any more (hence taking a long time to write this reply). If you're down to do some trial and error, the formulas on the page linked below might be helpful. Look for the phrase "I tweaked the above and used". Good luck!

Awesome!!! And, I'm really glad you left the tool bar stuff in! As a self-taught-newb, it's that kind of stuff that is the hardest to find info on!! Granted, my SE4 and Fusion360 are different, but it gives me a starting point.
For me, the pace of it was just right. Thanks!!

Ah, that's good to hear! It's always a fear of mine that I might end up making someone into sitting through a boring video... It'll be interesting to check the analytics to see if there's an appreciable drop in "viewer eyeball focus" when I finish going through the history of the already-made part.
I'm considering a move to Fusion 360. Granted, I haven't used it yet*, but the $1000 I'm going to plunk down for my OEM SolidWorks "maintenance" (read: extortion) and the $2400+ I just spent on another year of HSMWorks are things I'd like to avoid in the future... In the Fusion videos I've seen, mostly on the NYCCYC channel, it looks quite good. What's "SE4"? SolidEdge?
*I tried to install it back when they were doing that super-sale, but that didn't work for some reason. It couldn't find the server or some junk. Not a good sign when a piece of software cannot even get through the installation without erroring-out.

+Hirudin I don't spend much time at all wondering/worrying about the vid analytics. My #1 vid has a 41% retention(min watched). #2, 15%. #3, 4%. By #6, the rest of the 500+ vids are below 2%. lol Unless you're looking to make a channel that you can live off of, I say, do what you want, how you want. If you don't enjoy it, nobody else will either. :)
      Yes, SE4 is SolidEdge.
Fusion keeps getting better. For me, it's worth it just for the CAM even if I still did all the CAD in SE4.......but doing the CAD in Fusion is the way to go. I got in on the $300/yr for the ultimate version....just can't beat that deal as a hobbiest!!!!
      I haven't had any issue with installation.....but for $2400/yr, I think I'd try it again!! lol :)

I'm with you there. I'm a long way from making any money off these vids so I don't even bother monetizing them. I'm just curious if there will be a drop-off at that point. I haven't figured out what I might end up doing with that information though.
Yeah, I have to imagine installation failures are pretty rare. I usually change the install directory, it might have flipped out because of that. It amazes me how many pieces of software completely lose their shit if you deviate one iota from the expected course of action.

+Hirudin I waited until I crossed the 1000 subs mark before I monetized, but because of my tire changing vid, I probably should have done it a bit sooner. It's worked out fine. The extra "fun" money is cool, but not why I post the vids. :)
I don't typically change the directory since both my C and D drives are 1TB SSD's.....but I select custom installation on a lot of stuff......amazing how much extra crap they try to add with their "express" installations. Not Fusion, but most other programs that get loaded. :(

useful, thanks. lots of other options for shapes like this too, when working with surfaces and profile-sweeps the possibilities are limitless..

i am tring to layout spherical helix inside a sphere, but gaps must be same on equator and on near the pole of sphere. :(
