Wow i just assumed joshua was talking to an angel but i didnt know that we couldnt fall before one. It is good to know it was God himself. Thanks for sharing!
I believe it was Christ and not God. It was the unrevealed Jesus. Jesus was only revealed to mankind until the fullness of time when He came in physical form. Also, at the name of Jesus every knee shall bow.
An application of the book of Joshua can been seen as the battle for the will of God in our lives. Also, it could be seen as our heavenly kingdom where there is absolutely no sin.

Paster Paul, my interpretation of 5:13 is that the commander of Gods army is an Angel, who had a message. This to me knowledge and I believe is the archangel Gabriel who brought him the message that he is standing on holy land. Joshua would not be able to see God, otherwise he would die.

There are multiple times that the old testament references "The angel of the LORD", who is widely regarded by scholars as the pre-incarnate Christ, appearing to individuals and none of them died after seeing him. So why not in this case?
