  • Christmas cookies are types of cookies typically prepared during the Christmas season and are among the most widespread Christmas traditions in many countries.
The history of Christmas cookies should date back to approximately the 16th century, when the first cookies were not supposed to take the form they have today. The earlier form of candy was fruit figurines that children were supposed to eat after playing with them. In history, sugar also had a protective function, when it was supposed to protect the family and the entire economy from dark forces. A typical example is candy in the form of carved animals, when it was supposed to protect live animals on the farm. Candy in the shape of a circle was a symbol of the sun and was hung on houses or fruit trees. According to tradition, Christmas cookies were to be baked only from flour from one's own harvest, this symbolized that there would also be a good harvest next year. The dough from the hands was to be rubbed on the trees, and the remaining water from the dough was poured into the feed of the cattle so that they would continue to milk well.
Confectionery in its current form appeared during the 19th century, but it belonged only to wealthy households. Rare spices were part of the sweets of that time. Poorer people subsequently baked rather from what was available - for example, from pepper or garlic. It is also reported that caramels were the most popular candy in the 19th century, when they were part of the Christmas table or Christmas tree. Sweets were also baked from Christmas dough, it was prepared around the time of the Second World War, later it appears in Poland. Honey was one of the common ingredients for sweets in the 19th century, so-called meads appeared in the cities made from a mixture of honey, sugar, eggs, butter, milk and plain flour, often this mixture was shaped into cakes and then baked and coated with chocolate icing. Historically, crackle candy also appeared, when it appeared earlier in villages and only around the middle of the 19th century in cities. From the second half of the 19th century, so-called gingers were also baked from semi-coarse flour, grated ginger, sugar and eggs.
After the Second World War, candy began to be prepared from other and more expensive ingredients, and subsequently it could also be purchased in candy stores. The most popular types in the Czech Republic are vanilla rolls, Linz cakes, coconut balls or filled cupcakes.

Doporučuji tato těsta hnětat ručně co nejméně, těsto se pak může tzv. spařit a pak se s ním nedá dělat a když se upeče, je tvrdé a na nic :)
