I called two garage door companies and they quoted $400 & $600 to replace the belt. No way!!!! So glad I saw this video. Not only did it show me how to replace the drive belt, it recommended calling the company for a new belt. I called and they sent me one for FREE! Today I changed it in less than an hour. Thanks for the fantastic tutorial.
This is basically the 101 manual for this job. I have the same exact model and my belt failed. Gotta love a 3 year old video still getting it done. Kudos on the video bud. Helped a ton.
Thanks! Your instructions and video are great. And thanks for the lifetime warranty tip, i got a free belt from Liftmaster! My son and I replaced our belt in under an hour. The door works great now.
Here I am using this video in 2024 - 5 years after it was made! - to show me how to replace my broken belt, and for sure save big bucks in the process. Thanks!!
Excellent DIY video! After watching I called Liftmaster and received two belts for free under lifetime warranty. Your video made this task look easy enough to attempt on my own. I followed it step by step and replaced both of my drive belts on my two garage doors. Your directions were clear and easy to follow! The video showed parts up close and how to remove and replace them. Your video saved me several hundred dollars in a garage door repair. Thank you!
Probably not your intention, but you really saved me hours of headache today. The nut with the spring tensioner on mine must have backed out over some years, and it came apart today when my wife was getting ready to leave. I couldn't find a belt that looked like the one we have, so I couldn't tell if I was missing a part or how it went together. Thanks to your video, I figured out I have all the parts and just need to put it back together. Thanks for sharing this 5 years ago :)
Definitely one of the best-made instructional videos ever. My wife was absolutely amazed I could do this without breaking anything or making multiple trips to Home Depot. I agree with all the comments below. The video was perfect. I followed along step-by-step. It probably took me 45-60 minutes, but I am slow. And best of all, it now works great. Thanks a million.
This is by far the best video on this topic! You so clearly and simply showed what tools I needed and how to do it from start to finish including necessary adjustments. My only hiccup was not realizing the bolt has a flat side that needed to face the teeth side of the belt. I rarely write reviews for something like this, but I made it a priority to do so. THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!!!!!
Thanks for making this video. 20-year-old Lift-master kept stopping midway up. Couldn’t figure it out. Called service tech. Duh! Belt was frayed and stripped for 10-inch run. Old model. Can’t get belt. Need need new unit. Quoted $520 before tax, installed and 1-week for parts to arrive. 10-minute internet search for replacement belt. $95 delivered in four days. This video and 45-minutes of work with tools I already had and DONE! Thank you! Was able to ‘re-tune’ length of run, which is probably why belt was stripped in first place.
Those old style belts are kind of hard to find but are still out there. Nice job my friend on fixing the issue. 🙏 I appreciate the positive feedback also! Hope you have a great day my friend.
This video is amazing!! It was so easy to follow and exactly what I needed to replace my Liftmaster Garage Door belt. After watching the video once, I had the new belt replaced in 20 or 30 minutes at most. It took me a bit of time to do the down/up adjustments just because I wanted to get that perfect, since neither of the openers had been adjusted since we moved into the house 8 years ago. The explanation of the video was so easy to follow. I am so pleased that I came across this DYI video. Thanks again and keep up the great work!
Not only was your video absolutely amazing and I was able to follow it step by step for someone who is not much of a mechanically inclined person, but I also followed your suggestion and contacted Chamberlain directly, and they sent me my replacement belt absolutely free! Thank you thank you thank you for putting this video out!
Thank you so much for this video! I was quoted approx $300 for the replacement of the belt and labor. Your tip about contacting LiftMaster was excellent. I was able to get a new belt sent to me for FREE and I also completed this job by myself. Thanks again for helping me save some money and gain confidence in my DIY skills! One tip for future reference - when tightening the bolt back onto the belt, make sure the spring is tightened to 1.25" (one and a quarter inches). [Check the 9:00 mark of the video]
Simple and to the point. You should make a video on how to properly make a “how to video” for the others that struggle. Some of these people cause more confusion than anything! Great vid, man.
Great video, very informative. I called the company and they are sending me a free replacement. Belt was covered under warranty. Can’t wait to installing it.

For reference, I changed the belt before it was completely broken off so it makes it much easier but nevertheless I really appreciated this video, not only saves a lot of money but also learned a new skill. I would have never know how to take off and put back the chain link. So thank you so much
Thanks for the video.. You have saved me at least $300-400. My garage drive belt broke last week. I called one professional and he quoted me more than $300. After watching your video, i called Chamberlin to check whether I have lifetime warranty and they indeed confirmed that and sent me new drive belt and the motor (though I requested replacement for belt only). It took me little over 45 min to replace the belt (you have explained all steps in detail) and it is working fine now. Thanks again for your help
Thank you so much for the video. I replaced my belt just now, and being extra cautious it took me 45 min. Thank you so much! Also I called LiftMaster and received my belt the next morning under warranty, at no charge, because you mentioned the warranty. They were also great to deal with! Total of 10-12 minutes on the phone over two phone calls. Amazing customer service! Your awesome dude!

I found the trolley but CAN NOT FIND THE "CARRIAGE" PART .(TOWARD THE END OF YOUR VIDEO WHEN YOU TEST TO ALLOW THE BELT RETRIEVE WITHOUT HITTING THE SCREW/NUT.) Super helpful! I just got off the phone with them and they sent me a new one for free! It was installed back in 2007 so I didn’t think it would qualify 😅 thanks again!
I was quoted $900 for a new opener and all it needed was a new belt. WHICH WAS COVERED BY LIFETIME WARRANTY!! I wouldn’t have thought to check with chamberlain on that had I not seen this video. Got it installed today and it works fine. Great, helpful video. Thanks!
Ditto! #1 - After watching this video, I checked my Manual and found that the belt had a Lifetime Warranty which saved me a bunch of $$. Liftmaster customer service accepted my request for replacement and it arrived in a couple of days. #2 - I followed to steps and did the replacement by myself. I am very happy that you posted this!
Bought the belt in Amazon for under $60 and just followed your instructions in every step, including up/down adjustments 😊 In our area service technicians ask for $300-$350 parts and labor. It took me under 30 minutes. Thanks again!
GREAT explanation! I had to fix a Chamberlain belt that came off after it was "professionally" installed. Other videos were not helpful. Nice job. Thanks!
Thanks for all the tips in your video. I didn't know about the lifetime warranty on the belt. I called Liftmaster and they are sending me a replacement belt. Their customer service representative was very friendly and knowledgeable. My unit was manufactured in 2004. That saved me about $80. Thanks again
Excellent video! First call I made to a repair service quoted $289. Got the new belt under warranty and did the repair in about an hour. All repairs should be this easy. Thank you!
Wow! Based on your lifetime warranty suggestion., got a new belt at no charge by calling Chamberlain. Great company!! Without you I would've paid. I'll watch video again when I have the belt and it's time to install. Thanks!
Thank you for this! Was able to get my belt replaced under warranty and followed this video with ease! Got it back up and running. Saved me a pretty penny!
Thanks for posting this video. You just saved me a $300!!! I was able to replace the belt myself in just under 30 minutes. Great and simple instructions. Easy to follow!!
The part where you showed how to get the motor in the down possession was the game changer for me. After a couple failed attempts I watched the video and it worked perfectly after setting the motor correctly. Thanks for a well done instructional video!
And thanks to lift master they sent me free belt replacement without any obligation great product and good service definitely will buy there product again and thank you again
Thank you so much for this! I just fixed mine. I got the belt for $50 on Amazon and received it in one day. Now my garage door opener is as good as new! (I will probably jinx myself by saying that.)
I’m so glad I ran into your video. As a 40+ female, I was able to follow the instructions and replace my belt without difficulties. It probably took me 45 minutes once I had all the tools aligned. Watched other videos and we’re not detailed like yours which prevented me from getting frustrated and willing to tackle the project after having the belt for three months.
Thanks for the tutorial, I am not known to be a “handyman,” but with this guide I got my old belt off and new one back on in 30 minutes or so. Thanks for the great video!
Just replaced mine with the help of my son. Chamberlain honored the lifetime warranty over the phone on Monday, belt arrived on Friday. Installed at least as well as when the pros did it the first time. Thanks for the video!
It was so helpful including the fact that you said I might get the wrong belt and I did. I to wait for the new one to come in. yeah I must have gotten a chamberlain belt when I needed a lift master. either way they switched them out and it worked perfect the second time. Thanks for your help
What an awsome step by step video on how to replace your belt! I even called LiftMaster like you suggest and they sent me a brand new belt for free! Thank you, thank you!!
I used your video to replace failed belt. It was very helpful and and perfect. Especially the part where you show how to sync the door open closed position to the motor logic. I am pretty handy, but I have to say I would not have thought of this. Thank you for the help, it was PERFECT!
Thank you. This was an excellent video and really made the job go faster. Making sure the traveller was in the right position simplified all the downstream tasks!
Very good tutorial. It helped me a lot. I appreciate your putting this out there. I found out when I called Chamberlain that my belt and motor are guaranteed for life and they sent me a free belt.
You've taught me how to change the trolley/carriage with this video (figured you did that in the video anyway). while I was doing that, I saw that there were 2 teeth missing from the rubber drive belt and I could see the exposed steel. Ordered a new one and will be using this video again to replace the belt. Thank you so much big guy!
Brilliant solution. My belt popped off because a damn bird built a nest on top of the opener. I couldn't get the opener to align with the belt. You just saved me an expensive service call. Thanks a lot.
Awesome video and thanks for the tip about a lifetime warranty. Called Liftmaster and they sent out a new belt free of charge with no questions asked other than model #.
Thank you! Wasn't sure if I could tackle replacement before I watched your video. Your explanation and demonstration was spot on. Tackled it with confidence. Thx.
Great video. Very helpful. Especially the suggestion about contacting Chamberlain about the lifetime warranty. I had to wait two weeks but, received a free belt! After receving the belt, I had it installed and adjusted within 30 minutes.
I just want to say Thank You so much for this video. I was able to follow your step by step advice and put my garage door belt on with in 30 mins. Thank God there was a lifetime warranty on the belt. You saved me a lot of money 😀.
Best Video.. Your even using the same openers that I have... I had a belt go out on one of these a year ago.. Of course the repair man suggests that I replace the whole unit... $700.. I just bought my replacement belt of amazon $85. Hell Yeah!!!
Hmm. I just bought the replacement belt for $23 from Amazon. It had 4.5 stars, but now I'm a bit worried. Will find out tomorrow I suppose. Didn't see the bit about lifetime warranty and free belt, but if there's a problem with the replacement, I'll try that. Mine was missing about 6" of teeth at the bottom position so I'm guessing it was out of limit.
I made the belt change in 15 minutes -- because I knew exactly what I was doing thanks to this video. The replacement belt seems to be an exact replica of the belt that was on there. It probably wasn't a limit issue because the entire length of the old belt was cracked and broken at virtually every gap. It was 18 years old per the manufacturing date on the motor (assuming it hasn't been replaced before). Some videos copy the Sears video which instructs the serviceman to remove the entire rail and replace on the ground (likely for insurance purposes) but that's completely unnecessary. This repair is only slightly more complicated than changing a light bulb when the uncertainty has been removed. Trickiest part is the tension. I'd rather have a spec like "should be able to pull the belt no more than 1" away from the rail at the center of the rail" (I made that up) but we work with the information we have. If you're not sure you can do this, watch THIS video and you can.
Thank you for making this video!! I followed a different video and after replacing the belt I sadly learned the opener was in the “up” position but the clamp was in the “down” position, so the opener tried to close when it was already closed… I loosened the spring bolt and got the belt off the gear, followed your procedure to get the motor into the down position, then put the belt on the gear and re-tightened. All works now!! PS I didn’t realize until the end of the video but you installed the other opener in my two door garage a few years ago! Hope you are doing great!
With this video i got our old style Formula 1 model garage door belt replaced thanks to you. Best belt replacement video in youtube.Didn't miss any details and made it easy for me to do the job right. Saved me almost $200 that the shop wanted to charge for the belt and installation. I also followed your advise and got the lifetime warranty. They sent me a new one in about 10 days. Thank you very much,🤝You really know this business very well. 🧐👍👋
Bravo! You made it so easy. Watching it and replaying some critical parts just once was all that I needed. Just the right pace and not rambling. I really appreciate two parts A) the part where you did a check on the open and close with the door unhooked and B) where you mentioned that the belt and motor sometimes has a lifetime warranty. You rock and so does LiftMaster for covering a rubber belt for life!!!! One thing you may add is that you need to know the height of the garage door before ordering the belt - I noticed that your belt was for 7 feet height whereas mine was 8 feet. While ordering I was asked to measure the door height by LiftMaster - basically the vertical plumb-line distance from the floor to where the door lip is when fully opened.
Great Video/How to, exactly what i needed to fix my belt on the garage door. Our belt just got old and the teeth crumbled, the company sent one for free, Lifetime warranty.
Excellent video and thanks for all the tips you included. Made replacement of the belt so easy after watching this. Thanks again for taking the time to create this video !!
This video was great! Thanks to you, I found out that my unit was under warranty and I got the belt for freeeeee. I was then able to follow your instructions to get the belt replaced. Thank you for taking the time to make this video.
@@jonathanwilson5653 no problem bud! 😎 Glad to help. Yes, leaving it in a closed position is what you want. And making sure the opener is in a down limit setting. If done absolutely perfect, no tweaking the limits at the end. So good job on the perfectly executed job. 👊🏼😎
It was great that you mentioned some models having a lifetime warranty. I was going to spend $75 on Amazon but I called the company and it is covered under their warranty. No charge replacement. Video is very clear and simple, also. Thank you for posting.
Excellent video. Best part was recommendation to call and see if lifetime warranty applied. Received my new belt free of charge. Replacement took about 30 minutes. Only suggestion is to make sure that the flat side of the bolt faces toward the track, otherwise bolt won’t pass thru hole.
I have three doors with openers that are 18 years old, and one of the belts recently failed Checking the manual I saw that the belts have a lifetime warranty to the original owner (they don't ask for proof). I asked them to send me two so that I could replace all the belts due to age. I purchased one belt from Amazon because of the one-day shipping. That will be used for the broken belt. The other two will likely take 7-10 days to arrive from Liftmaster. Great video! Thanks.
Thanks for a straight-forward, easy to follow guide video. After watching this, it was easy to tackle mine with no problems. Mine hadn't snapped, but had lost several teeth due to dry rotting. (Gotta love central Texas summers).
Thanks for the very good video. Also thanks for the heads up about the lifetime warranty on the belt. My Chamberlain LiftMaster is 21 years old and the belt (original) just gave out. I went to Chamberlain support site and chatted with a tech. My new belt (free and free shipping) is on it's way! I will use your video to guide me in the replacement when it gets here.
I just called and my warranty was expired but they still gave me a complimentary replacement! Definitely call and ask even if your door is old. Mine was pushing 20 years and was 10 years past the warranty.
I have the exact unit he was demoing here. This video saved me at least $300 bucks. My belt wore out and started losing teeth. This video showed me a few things. No matter what, call the manufacturer and find out if you indeed do have a lifetime warranty because most of them the belt AND unit have a lifetime warranty. So I didn't even have to pay for the belt. Shipping was free even. And because of this video, I didn't have to pay anyone for labor.
Just did my belt while watching your video. Great instructions went just as smoothly as you showed not sure what a belt replaced by a pro would cost but I guarantee you saved me money. Thanks so much for the how to advise! Hope you have a great day!
Ahhh,, you're the only one to snap me into how to know if it's up or down. My HD900d opener was spinning around the stripped belt and I have no idea if the motor is in the proper position for belt installation or if there's a procedure to get it set up for the new belt. Now I know,,,,,,, THANKS !!
Hi Richard. I just completed my replacement of the LiftMaster belt and have you to thank for your great video. I wanted to mention one issue I found with the threaded adjustment bolt on my opener. One side of the bolt is flat and is inserted into the carrier one way and one way only. I installed it on the new belt and found the bolt would not easily slide into the carrier hole. I didn't realize that there was a flat side and since the bolt was on the wrong side of the belt teeth, I had to unscrew the extended nut, unlink the bolt and re-link it with the flat side on the same side as the belt teeth. This may sound confusing, but it was a minor issue and I quickly fixed it. Door opener is working and I will contribute to your PayPal account later tonight when I get cleaned up.
Thank you for the comment! It makes me feel good that my video helped assist in the replacement. Yes you are correct. The D threaded shaft goes in a certain way. I wish I pointed that out better. It wasn't always like that. Chamberlain LiftMaster redesigned it later on like that because the belt would twist over time and use. I hope you and your family have a wonderful New Year's ahead. I personally had a rough 2021 and hoping for a better 2022! Comments like yours bring much needed joy to my life. Thank you! 🙏

Thanks! Great video and thanks for tip that lift master has lifetime belt replacement. Easy DIY project.
Thank you so much for the SUPER THANKS!!

Nice job. Thanks!
@@jonbrandt3041 I appreciate the awesome feedback. I'm glad the instructions were clear and concise!
Thanks for all the tips in your video. I didn't know about the lifetime warranty on the belt. I called Liftmaster and they are sending me a replacement belt. Their customer service representative was very friendly and knowledgeable. My unit was manufactured in 2004. That saved me about $80. Thanks again
Thank you so much! You literally saved me thousands of dollars with this video. Trash garage door repair companies around me tried to fleece me.
Glad to help. 👊🏼
Excellent video! First call I made to a repair service quoted $289. Got the new belt under warranty and did the repair in about an hour. All repairs should be this easy. Thank you!
Thanks for the positive feedback! 🙏
Wow! Based on your lifetime warranty suggestion., got a new belt at no charge by calling Chamberlain. Great company!! Without you I would've paid. I'll watch video again when I have the belt and it's time to install. Thanks!

Thanks for the comment! Glad to help.
Awesome video. Not only did it show me how to change the belt in minutes, also got a free replacement belt from Chamberlain. TY!
Thanks for the positive feedback. I really appreciate it. Glad the video helped.
I appreciate the positive feedback 🙏. And also, good job on the repair! You can do anything with proper instructions. 💯
Thanks for the tutorial, I am not known to be a “handyman,” but with this guide I got my old belt off and new one back on in 30 minutes or so. Thanks for the great video!

Chamberlain is solid on their warranties. Glad it was an easy fix for you and your son.

Glad the video helped! Warranties for the win!!

I appreciate the awesome feedback!
I followed a different video and after replacing the belt I sadly learned the opener was in the “up” position but the clamp was in the “down” position, so the opener tried to close when it was already closed…
I loosened the spring bolt and got the belt off the gear, followed your procedure to get the motor into the down position, then put the belt on the gear and re-tightened. All works now!!
PS I didn’t realize until the end of the video but you installed the other opener in my two door garage a few years ago! Hope you are doing great!
Just wanted to say thank you! Fixed my garage door and it only cost me the cost of the belt!
🙏
With this video i got our old style Formula 1 model garage door belt replaced thanks to you.
Best belt replacement video in youtube.Didn't miss any details and made it easy for me to do the job right. Saved me almost $200 that the shop wanted to charge for the belt and installation. I also followed your advise and got the lifetime warranty. They sent me a new one in about 10 days.
Thank you very much,🤝You really know this business very well. 🧐👍👋
Thanks for mentioning the lifetime warranty, you saved me $70!
Perfect the tip about ensuring the garage was down was spot on I would not have thought of that.
I appreciate the awesome feedback! 👍🏼
Great Video/How to, exactly what i needed to fix my belt on the garage door. Our belt just got old and the teeth crumbled, the company sent one for free, Lifetime warranty.

Thanks for the tips! I actually left mine in the down position where everything needed to be closed already and didn’t have to adjust a thing!
@@jonathanwilson5653 no problem bud! 😎 Glad to help.
Yes, leaving it in a closed position is what you want. And making sure the opener is in a down limit setting. If done absolutely perfect, no tweaking the limits at the end. So good job on the perfectly executed job. 👊🏼😎
Excellent details! Fixed my door with no problems.

Great video and an easy install. Chamberlain replaced the belt after 20 years
Thanks for the positive feedback!
Excellent video. Best part was recommendation to call and see if lifetime warranty applied. Received my new belt free of charge. Replacement took about 30 minutes. Only suggestion is to make sure that the flat side of the bolt faces toward the track, otherwise bolt won’t pass thru hole.
I appreciate the awesome feedback! Thanks bro 🙏🏼.
Thanks.
Thanks for the positive feedback!
@@garagedoorgenius I just finished the install. Easy peazy. Took about 30 minutes. That includes moving the car and finding my tools. Thanks again.

Thanks for a straight-forward, easy to follow guide video. After watching this, it was easy to tackle mine with no problems. Mine hadn't snapped, but had lost several teeth due to dry rotting. (Gotta love central Texas summers).

Yep, central Texas can do a number on those belt's. Hope y'all are having a great Sunday. 👍🏼👊🏼
That's awesome! Thanks for the awesome feedback.
I just called and my warranty was expired but they still gave me a complimentary replacement! Definitely call and ask even if your door is old. Mine was pushing 20 years and was 10 years past the warranty.
Wow! That's really cool of Chamberlain. 👍🏼
Awesome comment!
Glad to save you some money. 💯

Glad to help! 👍🏼💯
Thank you! 🙏
