I kept waiting for Robert Plant to come out and say: JOHN PAUL JONES, ORGAN, MANDOLIN, STEEL GUITAR, AND TRIPLE NECK!!! JOHN PAUL JONES!
JPJ is an absolute master, not just of bass guitar but music in general. I was so lucky to be front row to see him in London in 1999 on his Zooma tour - he walked on stage with his fretboard all lit up, I felt like I was in heaven. He always seems happy and jolly too.

Absolutely brilliant JCM. Jones is undoubtedly a musicians musician. Even the Avant Garde pieces - which can be a bit hit or miss to listen to- were spectacular... He needs to do a full tour. 👍

JCM Love your Zeppelin videos 💯. One of my Zep's stories .In 2001 i went to Asuncion ,Paraguay . During the trip i went to a near by shopping mall called Multiplaza . I was walking around and there was a record store called Zeppelin music 🎶 it was shocking !! Every year i would visit the store and meet with the owner Gladys . Some years ago Robert Plant 🪴 was touring SA. And was in Asuncion for a show . Gladys was able to meet Robert Plant in person. Gladys went to the stars that day ✌️
JUST watched that video. By himself the man commands respect. He joins Homme and Grohl in TCV and not only holds his own, he dominates over guys 30 years younger than him.
Hey, so glad to see you covering this! ❤️ I really did shed a few tears watching his surprise recent appearance because of how beautiful the music sounded. The man is a precious treasure without doubt. It's so clear to see the incredible contribution he made not just to Led Zeppelin but to music overall. In my wildest dreams and my vivid imagination, I keep thinking, well, Jimmy made a surprise return last year with The Rumble, we've just seen JPJ which you're covering, and I distinctly remember seeing what I think was a Christmas greeting from Robert saying something along the lines of "it's never too late"...... now we know that nobody would be able to hold Jason back from his rightful place. Bearing in mind the state of the world when Zeppelin first formed, and taking into account its current state? If the lads could find a way to reunite even for just one more show? The ripple effect around the world would in my opinion unite the people in a manner that would make everyone drop their weapons. But hey I'm just a romantic dreamer 😊......... can you just imagine though? Taking the spiritual approach of us allegedly entering the golden age of Aquarius, one more Led Zeppelin reunion is comparable to the return of King Arthur when the world needs him the most. I guess it's a curse of being raised by parents who are both artists and it was their pastime as an escape from the day job! Thank you Jose, you are one great guy ❤

I think then coming back together for one last show could help the world, but sometimes THAT actually scares me, if they did, then it's a sign society is truly over you know? Jonsey's parents, having been his influence and in the business, must have been so proud of him! It just goes to show how Jimmy page had an ear for talent, picking the perfect band mates to take Jimmy's vision of the perfect band! If Jimmy had chosen anyone else for his new band, who knows how it would have turned out? John Paul Jones was the perfect fit! His musical talent was paramount for the success of the Mighty Led Zeppelin! I love Robert saying in a live show, "John Paul Jones on piano!"

So glad you did this episode on JPJ. He was definitely the most accomplished musician in Zeppelin and really the backbone of everything they did. I remember when they got inducted into the Rock n Roll hall of fame and he got up to the mic and basically just said thank you to Robert and Jimmy for finally remembering him. Than during the songs they played he went on to blow everyone else off the stage he played so great and with so much presence... No pun intended. I've been dying to see him for years and really pray I get the chance to at some point. Hoping Them Crooked Vultures do another tour sometime but I'd be happy seeing him in any situation. I've seen Plant a bunch of times and he's always great. I saw Page 3x between the Arms concert at MSG when I was 17 and twice with The Firm.. Which I always wished he got back together with cause they were awesome in concert. As a bass player John Paul Jones is the one I wanna see the most.
The cool thing about Jones is that whenever he performs, you don't see a rockstar stuck in the past but evolving, ALL THE TIME. This cannot be said of many of his peers. He enjoys music for what it is, and keeps exploring the cosmos. @@JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories That's very true. Most of his peers are stuck in the past. I would have to say that Plant also isn't stuck in the past. He's been doing all different types of music and coming out with great albums to this day. Especially with the Sensational shapeshifters and Allison Krauss. I think you're right about the amount of views and why it's lower than other videos. John Paul Jones wasn't as out front and in the spotlight as Plant and Page were. And in general people aren't as interested in the rhythm section of most bands as they are in who's singing and playing Gtr. JPJ was definitely the best overall and well rounded musician in Zep. He doesn't get nearly enough credit for all he did to make Zeppelin as great as they were in the studio and in concert. I just hope I get to see him just once. As a bass player he's the one I've always wanted to see more than Plant and Page.
SO good, thanks for doing this. JPJ's musical abilities are second to none. He's not playing a bit of mandolin or lap steel -he EXCELS at those instruments. Like he does on keyboards and writing arrangements. But when it all is said and done, I'd say JPJ is THE greatest electric bass player ever. And yes, I Iove Jaco and Macca and Entwistle and Jamerson, but JPJ has such an incredible scope and range even just with that one instrument. Like fusing totally different approaches. I always wondered why bands failed so completely when trying to cover Led Zeppelin. And while every musician was unique and uncopyable, it's 'Juan Pablo Jones' that gets overlooked. It took me a while to realize how say Whole Lotta Love gets much of it's power from his bass. Yes, it's Page's riff and Bonham's incredible groove and Plant's amazing vocals. But it wouldn't have worked with the amazing bottom that JPJ provided.

Wow, imagine the kind of stuff Zeppelin might've done if they'd continued on. I can imagine them doing an orchestral album or something like that. The avant garde stuff Jonesy made could've been worked into the middle section of Dazed and Confused.

I played drums, and anyone that has played drums wishes they had taken up the bass instead! I wish I had taken up bass, just on the off chance that I could be as good as Jones. Or, at least play some of Jones's stuff. Feel, groove, swagger, finesse Jones could do it all. Jones could sit deep in the pocket, or when he was feeling frisky (checkout The Song Remains the Same from Seattle '73) bust into the front line and kick you in the teeth! A man of immense talent and dry humor that grounded him and kept him from becoming a memory, or a statistic. There are a couple videos going around of Jones playing Down to the River to Pray at Big Ears, check them out because it is spooky good!

Love JPJ dry sense of humour, very old school British. J Page was very lucky to have someone with his musical ear to follow Jimmy's improvisations and where Jimmy decided to go, judging by some of the later No Quarters ie 1977, I don't think Jimmy could do it quite as well when the roles were reversed
Yes, Jimmy had the best teammate in JPJ. The only think i don't like about 1977 NQ's is the blues boogie in the middle haha. But overall, an ACE player!
Wonderful video. JPJ seems a lovely bloke, largely ego free, non poseur, fabulously talented instrumentalist, writer, arranger. Apart from the money, putting up with the other 3, on the road must have driven him bonkers ...
JPJ's contributions were not legally acknowledged in the credits of many Led Zeppelin songs because of his inexperience and humility as a person, but listening to Page and Plant's solo works years later it is easy to see the lack of the great bassist and musician's talent and contribution.
Spot On JC. The Post Led Zeppelin years really show how Jones made these guys better, or at least complement their skill better than the people they worked with. Jones is the best musician in Led Zeppelin :)
JCM on Kashmir and other songs JPJ is credited for playing a melitron ( I'm not sure how it's spelled).can you please explain this instrument? It says it makes sound from pressing on keys similar piano. That definition does nothing for me. Also he is credited for playing a fretless bass that too blows my mind! How does one master that instrument?
This is a great idea for an episode. Let me write this down and see how can i come up with an explanation out of not owning a mellotron. The instrument is fascinating for sure. Fretless Basses are quite tricky! Thanks for watching! For now lets make a toast for Jones right!!!
Imo JPJ was great but ITTOD I know you love it Jose, as I do but if Zep continues and Bonzo lives .... God rest his soul... Zep is going back to basics back to guitar driven Rock imo . ITTOD part 2 would of and could of never happened again it would of not worked. Zep fans wanted Rock . JPJ is a amazing awesome musician he was never going to get the acclaim of Jimmy Zep was his band up till 78 imo during the recording of ITTOD and off time of the band between the warmups and Knebworth shows . Plant was in control but if the American tour would of been at least good on stage Page would of took back Zep and to it roots . This could of and probably would of caused problems as I believe the band we're going in different directions in taste and what they wanted Zep to Be . All respect for JPJ 👍🏼
JPJ is a very versatile musician, but I think it's a stretch to say that he's the 'best' musician in Zeppelin. Jimmy Page's guitar solos and compositions on both electric and acoustic are part of what defines heavy rock n roll. JPJ doesn't have any truly legendary solos or compositions on the level of Jimmy. He doesn't define the bass or keyboards the way that Jimmy does with the guitar. He doesn't command the stage and transport people to other realms in the way that Jimmy can. He clearly played a huge role that can be overlooked particularly by non-musicians. I think it's too bad that Jimmy and JPJ haven't done any projects together. Maybe they could have worked on new instrumental grooves, trying to go beyond Zeppelin, and maybe attracted a new singer to go along with new directions.
Sowy 😢 to mention organ comeback ... then a tiny scene with no sound ... has disappointed, but I believe he is a musician selfless sticking to his first love - MUSIC

Muchas gracias Valentina. Hasta cierto punto la intención de este canal es elevar el legado de Jones por encima de lo que se suele repetir en la prensa. Led Zeppelin fue muchas galaxias más que sus frontmen Page y Plant. Considero vital la tarea de recordarle al mundo que Jones y Bonham eran arreglistas, cerebros irrepetibles que en conjunto los 4, fueron la mejor banda de los 70. La prensa pop suele ser músicos frustrados, lamento decirlo así, pero entre más camino, más lo veo, tanto como músico y como fan. Como dijo Frank Zappa, la crítica musical es como bailar sobre arquitectura haha.

Love JPJ dry sense of humour, very old school British. J Page was very lucky to have someone with his musical ear to follow Jimmy's improvisations and where Jimmy decided to go, judging by some of the later No Quarters ie 1977, I don't think Jimmy could do it quite as well when the roles were reversed
Yes, Jimmy had the best teammate in JPJ. The only think i don't like about 1977 NQ's is the blues boogie in the middle haha. But overall, an ACE player!
Id like to consider JPJ as the Dr. Frankenstein of the rock world, as he would unassumingly walk on to a project and turn it into a monster.

JPJ's contributions were not legally acknowledged in the credits of many Led Zeppelin songs because of his inexperience and humility as a person, but listening to Page and Plant's solo works years later it is easy to see the lack of the great bassist and musician's talent and contribution.
Spot On JC. The Post Led Zeppelin years really show how Jones made these guys better, or at least complement their skill better than the people they worked with. Jones is the best musician in Led Zeppelin :)
JCM on Kashmir and other songs JPJ is credited for playing a melitron ( I'm not sure how it's spelled).can you please explain this instrument?
It says it makes sound from pressing on keys similar piano. That definition does nothing for me. Also he is credited for playing a fretless bass that too blows my mind! How does one master that instrument?

Imo JPJ was great but ITTOD I know you love it Jose, as I do but if Zep continues and Bonzo lives .... God rest his soul... Zep is going back to basics back to guitar driven Rock imo . ITTOD part 2 would of and could of never happened again it would of not worked. Zep fans wanted Rock .
JPJ is a amazing awesome musician he was never going to get the acclaim of Jimmy Zep was his band up till 78 imo during the recording of ITTOD and off time of the band between the warmups and Knebworth shows . Plant was in control but if the American tour would of been at least good on stage Page would of took back Zep and to it roots . This could of and probably would of caused problems as I believe the band we're going in different directions in taste and what they wanted Zep to Be .

JPJ is a very versatile musician, but I think it's a stretch to say that he's the 'best' musician in Zeppelin. Jimmy Page's guitar solos and compositions on both electric and acoustic are part of what defines heavy rock n roll. JPJ doesn't have any truly legendary solos or compositions on the level of Jimmy. He doesn't define the bass or keyboards the way that Jimmy does with the guitar. He doesn't command the stage and transport people to other realms in the way that Jimmy can. He clearly played a huge role that can be overlooked particularly by non-musicians. I think it's too bad that Jimmy and JPJ haven't done any projects together. Maybe they could have worked on new instrumental grooves, trying to go beyond Zeppelin, and maybe attracted a new singer to go along with new directions.
He is the best musician because the Post Led Zeppelin studio evidence proves it :) Never forget the truth is never upfront but in between the lights.
Sowy 😢 to mention organ comeback ... then a tiny scene with no sound ... has disappointed, but I believe he is a musician selfless sticking to his first love - MUSIC
