This is an absolutely brilliant album.
I had the opportunity to travel twice to Cuba and was fortunate and blessed to get private lessons from Anga at Havana Academy of Arts. In my opinion, he's one of the greatest ever and he's such a humble man. The other staring reality was there were so many other amazing conquero's around too. The Cuban's are in the elite category when it comes to conga players ... and "yes" there many other great dedicated players but go to Cuba and you will see what I mean.
İ am from Cuba , i know what you mean you can find a conga master in every neighborhood , so if you become famous in the conga land you must have something special and believe Anga had it cause in cuba even though you are not musician every single person know when you are good at congas or not . So to be in the top of the list as Anga did means he had a special technic skills hard to find in other conga players in Cuba. There is something cubans called *Manana* you can have the greatest technical skills but if you dont transmit this connection Cubans use to call *Manana* you can be a good conga player but the public will not give you the credit, for cubans technical skills is important . But the main indicator that makes you be recognized by the other conga players and the public is your ability to connect with your own *Manana* to the public. *Mañana* is something I don't know how to explain very well cause is colloquial concept. but I think it can be said that *Manana* is the force of energy and spiritual connection that the conguero develops with his chimes when he plays the conga *Manana* is the most important skills as cuban player you must have and unfortunately it is not possible to learn in conga lessons it is the feeling or energy you transmit when you are playing to connect and attract the public or ancestor, is your ability as conga player to know when you should be fast, slow, the exact number of touches in each block depending on the speed, is to take the exact soundness that is adjusted according to the number of touches and speed of the music is a mystical ability that each conga player has inside him . Anga had a both technical skills and a such *Manana* that is impossible you will no be attracted when he plays the conga.
