@@giuseppebonelli Well that is an interesting question. I once heard that the logic is that you must practice not just being able to sit in a certain position but also learn to switch from them easily so you can adapt to the right situation. For example the crane position could help you practice balance on one leg so that you won't lose balance when you're standing on one leg to kick. The cat stance is actually not really special, you can find it in karate too and it's basically just a stance that you take if you want to hold your weight on the back leg before performing a front kick. Also there is a fun technique in karate where you trick your oponent into believing your weight is on the front leg and that way he won't expect you to kick using the front leg so it's a cool feint. The horse stance is really just for training actually and can be useful for strenghtening the tendons. Learning to enter the bow stance might also train your step in to help you put more power behind your punches. Part of these are my personal interpretation and there's also some stuff I heard from here and there so it might not be perfect. But the main ideea is that the stances will help more with strengthening the legs and developing balance as well as helping you get used to stepping in strongly in order to transfer the force into your punches. So the stances themselves aren't really something you're supposed to just sit in during a fight as the stances of boxing and other styles are. The cat stance could be used more in battle though, I personally think Bruce Lee's jeet kun do stance is rather similar with it when it comes down to leg position for example.
Horse stance, bow stance, inward (holding goat) stance are pretty much your stances for free sparing. All other stances support the stability needs of the ones I mentioned. When i saw my shifu stop a sweep with horse stance. My head exploded. Because then he proceeded to give us out training regiment to get us to sit thighs parallel for 3 mins
