- We're pulling out a staff favorite for this Bullet roast profile - Ethiopia Kayon Mountain Taaroo. Dan set out to create a simple approach to light roasting that highlights Taaroo's delicate floral side and bright cup character. After a couple passes he succeeds, comparing the flavor differences between the two roasts.

I have a request, can you please roast some decaf beans in future and post a video about that. I find there's a lot more information available for regular beans and not much for decafs. So it'll be really interesting to know y'alls approach to roasting decaf.
Any Raoists are cringing at that roast curve, NGL, myself included. Coffee baffles me so much. As a roaster, it's so crazy how the same roast curve can yield such different results, and on the other hand, a "good" roast curve can yield terrible results, and a "bad" roast curve can yield pleasurable results. I've been in the game for years, and I still think it's gonna be a while before I properly get my head around coffee.
Rao is exactly why when he said he was going to start hot and taper off, I was like "wait what?"
Very interesting, your scattered color response looks pretty much the same i get with some silverskin when i go soft of the roast DTR 10% for Sidamo and Kiffa beans..colour variations in my case are very much related to beans size that lacks sorting ..was told its common on Ethiopian beans.
I bought 6lbs of this coffee and immediately went back for an additional 12lb once I realized how wonderful it is! My second roast basically hit the same milestones, but went just a little longer post-FC.
I am so here for the content. I love this data heavy roast video. Please, please keep it up.
Also, what was changed at P5 to drop the ROR on the first batch?

Dropping to P5 just proved to be a little too low a heat setting at that particular point in the roast. I was either going to try dropping to P5 at the onset of 1st C, or just keep the heat setting to P6 til the end. Is it just me or does the roast look uneven where some are darker than the others?
Sometimes the chaff in even roasts like these can make it look a little uneven.
Hi Dan, Your Roast.World link is broken. I was logged in and was able to find it by entering Kayon in the Roast name field in the Disover Roasts page of Roast World.
