lately my partner and i have been talking a lot about the public perceptions of different civil rights movements over the last decade or so, specifically wrt frustration weve felt and noticed around our own communities when it comes to minority advocacy. its way, way too easy for anyone to come away from these convos feeling unrepresented and even resentful... think of the line "theres so much support for black people right now, yet no one cares enough about latinos to go out in the streets for us." ive heard so many versions of this idea that it almost feels silly in how universal it is across pretty much every background. i would say its worth remembering that 9 times out of 10, the loudest "culture war" centered movements (in this time) are a result of communities responding to active and targeted threats towards their basic rights. would there be as much pushback against someone defending their integrity against slander, or putting on their own oxygen mask first before helping the person sitting next to them? personally, i think theres enough charity to be shared between every struggling individual on gods green earth. for christs sake. to deride a step towards that by this comittee betrays such a serious failure of compassion that i struggle to find a more charitable way to describe it than as "anti american". thank you senators and panelists for your tireless work in filling up our oxygen tanks, god bless you all.

I don't think having a black doctor or nurse guarantees good or better care. I'm african american and I once had to stop seeing a black doctor because she had a terrible bed side manner. Slso had the misfortune of having a black nurse downplay my pain symptoms and it's not always necessary to have a doctor of the same gender. 💯 support more opportunities for minorities to have access to healthcare and to study medicine if they choose to do so, but they can't have the same poor attitude or prejudices as mon-minority health are workers.
