Agree, but some of his lyrics reference his brother, who was involved in a gang who stabbed a 15 year old to death on the tube. He is trying to defend it

Bit of context: Jack Merrit was a Cambridge graduate who devoted his life to help rehabilitate people in prison for violent offences. A guy he was helping was let out but committed a terror attack on London Bridge killing jack and another person. The media and politicians then used it to further their agendas which has led to more focus on long sentences as opposed to rehab - something jack was against. Windrush generation was thousands of migrants that were encouraged to come to the UK after ww2 to fill the workforce, but have become increasingly ignored as time has gone on. Grenfell was an apartment block that burned down killing 72 people. The fire spread because of flammable cladding on the outside of the tower. Cladding like that used to be used decades ago but regulations now require different, safer cladding, yet Grenfell was still covered in the old, unsafe cladding. The government, who are responsible for these buildings, have been accused of not properly maintaining them because the apartment was full of migrants and poor people (low priority).
Grenfell goes deeper than that, it was government housing, meaning that it was there to help those struggling (mostly black and arabic families) and the cladding was put on the outside to make it look better so that those who were in offices didnt have to look at a big ugly concrete structure. It burned down and poor people lost their lives because of rich peoples doing. Poverty in the UK goes much deeper than black and white fam.
Not only were the windrush generation ignored, but threatened and in some cases actually deported because the government 'lost' their documentation. These are people that had been in the UK for 50+ years and were just thrown out due to either incompetence or racism
"The least racist is still racist", that line hit hard. The UK is often described as one the "least racist" countries, I don't think if that's true but even if it was, racism is still embedded deep into our society

Typical left wing twat who jumps on bandwagons for the sake of it, you haven't got a clue about Boris apart from the narrative that the msm and blacks want you to believe.
6:34 the bar about Kate/Meghan is about Kate Middleton and Meghan markle. 2 non royals who married into the royal family and were treated very differently before and after the marriage.

Makes me cry every time I watch this. So impressed by Dave. As a white English woman, I agree with every word he says and so happy that our government/country is being called out publicly.
Amy Taylor You agree with every word he says? "Workin twice as hard as the people you know you're better than" must be one of the stupidest lines I've ever heard in decades, Lol! Whites built all of Europe and we've worked thousands of times harder than any black person has ever done! Also, the riches we've built should only be enjoyed by ourselves. We have the right to be a little lazy after 2000 years of hard work and hundreds of world-improving inventions. All buildings in Western Europe are built to 97% degree by white people. Dave is a pathetic racist, and a bunch of non-whites in Western Europe are more or less parasites on our success!
I'm sorry but I don't see how a single line on this song can offend you. It's one of the best live performances in recent times and extremely eye opening.
Dave is the realest one out there rn- puts so much power and meaning behind his lyrics. Everything he said is true too- years ahead of his age with his lyrics and maturity🙌
One of the best lyricists out there at such a young age. Also the fact that he's using his time in front of the world to perform a song that talks about strong issues affecting him and all of us everday to send a message, rather than choosing a more obvious, popular choice of song from his album really shows how real of a person he is and how he wants to impact people with his music. Genius
I’m a white Britain and these lyrics could not hold more relevance as to what has been going on in Minneapolis. I’ll never be ashamed of being white but I’m embarrassed and shamed by others actions that make the unwanted divide between different races.
@Callum He didn't mean it like "I'm better than white people" he meant it as the scenario that you could be in a workplace doing everything you can to prove yourself, working twice as hard as any of your lazy co-workers that you know you're better than, but not getting the praise or recognition because of the colour of your skin.
"Black is stepping in for your brothers because your fathers gone"-A massive truth, that leaves many young black kids with no real male role model or influence in their lives. So,many find comfort in gangs because it fills the void and their longing for a family unit.I would die for my family in a heart beat and that is how they feel about the other gang members. If work can be done to keep the family unit together(i know its not always possible) and funding is given to provide placces for these lost souls to go and feel loved, respected, important and appreciated then it would go a long way to helping so many people turn their lives around.
I’m white and would never see this song as being racist,, he’s just speaking the truth.. But where I’m from in Glasgow Scotland we all live as one regardless of race,,, 🤷🏻♂️ there is obviously uneducated idiots everywhere but we don’t have hate on nobody...
Sean Maine It happens everywhere fam, and I’m totally with u that Glasgow is a lot better here but it just so stupid how people can have a totally different mindset on someone just cause the colour on their skin. ITS FUCKING MAD
The only way I could perceive the song as even remotely troublesome is when he says that as a black person their struggle is more so than a white person's, which I think is meant to just be taken at face value. But by default it's incredibly wrong and sort of racist (implying that because of someone's colour they won't experience as much struggle as another, which just isn't true lol).
Tom Hardy He's saying it's a different kind of struggle which is true didn't compare it to any other particular struggles anyone might face cause that's not the message of the song
@@tomhardy116 i'm neither white or black, but Dave is 100% right when he says black people in general struggle more than whites. Obviously there are plenty of white people in poverty etc but black people face extra prejudice on top of the normal struggles.
Sam Brown I disagree. My auntie genie is a black women who was just as qualified for certain jobs as her white friends but didn’t get hired for over a year out of uni. You’re telling me that’s not because she was a educated black women. White People are very racist and hate to anyone else but a white face winning. Not all but many do! My cousins still get called dirty N*** denied being allowed in certain shops with his brother but watch a group of white boys walk in as a group. It’s very easy to miss unless you are there to whiteness it.
This had incredible power. The emotion behind his words can really be felt through his delivery. I'm not black, I'm a straight, white male. But even so you can tell he's really trying to convey how behind the UK is in terms of reparations for ancestors of slavery compared to the US, and we're still not doing enough. I love watching your videos, and while I can't empathize to what you've been through, or any of the black people I've met in my life have gone through, I'm hoping as our generation ages and starts to take more seats of power in the world real change can be made. Nothing but love and positivity man.

Reaction to Lesley from Dave’s album. One of, if not the deepest song I’ve ever heard. He is a gifted lyricist/ writer/ actor/ rapper/ poet. The stories he tells are moving, powerful and relatable. Legend in the making at just 21 years old.
Dave is special talent man, the truth is in his words, it might not be truth to others but it is to many including me and I’m a white British man but brother we speak the same language. The bar where he says equality doesn’t need credit is spot on. I had debate on this recently where on LinkedIn I saw loads of posts saying “x company announce 1st female ceo” or some shit and I put a comment saying why can’t we just say the persons name becomes CEO. When you put statements like this all you want is that positive attention but it feels forced and questions if it’s what the company really wanted. Equality is at its best when it doesn’t need recognition it’s just normal and the right to everyone, women, men, non binary, black, white, gay, straight or whatever. We all have our own lives and choices we make, we should be loving and supporting one another naturally not all this other shit going on which drives mental health through the roof. Anyway that’s my piece, stay safe everyone
I grew up in America in 80s an 90s an dave this song wow pac n big would b proud dave hands down a generational talent listen while hes here!! 4real !!

6:34 the bar about Kate/Meghan is about Kate Middleton and Meghan markle. 2 non royals who married into the royal family and were treated very differently before and after the marriage.
I’m white and I am disgusted, cause ones the typical royal white posh private education and the other is a mixed race and brought up through normal education
Rory Atkinson what the uk press are doing to meghan it’s outrageous she never done nothing to hurt and is targeted for her race.
Tbf Meghan marble did create scandal after scandal
When he called Boris Johnson racist I screamed. Finally someone said it
Stupid comment tbh, he was called racist literally every day in the election campaign 😂😂😂
There’s like 6 people in his cabinet that are not white. Do you really think a racist would allow that to happen?
Blanc Müll “image”
Blanc Müll look his quotes up yourself. There’s plenty supporting the racist argument.
magzz are you serious??? He literally gets called racist every day
I saw this live and this was the most emotional performance I’ve ever watched! Dave is so underrated man
I'm a white British man. This sends shivers down my spine every time I listen. He was great live. I was apart of this problem saying gross bigot stuff. but I changed and im disgusted in myself. My words led to pain and hurt. If you don't agree with these lyrics or realize these are true. You are apart of the problem
It's beautiful to hear stories from people who have the intelligence and insight to change. ✌
I was the same to be perfectly honest, lockdown was a huge turning point in my life in terms of political and social opinions
Makes me cry every time I watch this. So impressed by Dave. As a white English woman, I agree with every word he says and so happy that our government/country is being called out publicly.
Massive Lad boris is racist- he said black people have watermelon smiles, that Muslim women look like letterboxes. And many more if you look it up
@@shonapark4916 Words are not racist.
@Massive Lad r u ok
@@leighduxbury3864 so is the word 'nigger' racist
Couldn’t count the amount of times I’ve got goosebumps from this video
I'm sorry but I don't see how a single line on this song can offend you. It's one of the best live performances in recent times and extremely eye opening.
This performance should be in the national archives for future generations to admire
My fav bar “the blacker the berry the sweeter the juice ,the blacker the killer the sweeter the news” 🤯
The grenfell tower comment hit me hard. I dont have to say any more
Dave is the realest one out there rn- puts so much power and meaning behind his lyrics. Everything he said is true too- years ahead of his age with his lyrics and maturity🙌
@ your view is completely shit and thats why no one agreeing with you
go put on ur kkk hood
This was definitely the reaction we all needed, you should react to stormzy’s performance at the Brits next
I watched the performance live. I’m a 20 year old while female but everything he says is true and it sent shivers down my spine
"It's still racist even if it doesn't feel racist
Our Prime Minister's a real racist"
Im speechless I only want to say 1 word NiGgAAa
Lyrical genius, rhyming racist with racist x 4 😂
Fuck boris
@@ceostreams how so?
Give me some examples of Boris's racism please ,,,???
As I don't watch news or read papers cos it's all bollocks..
I appreciate what you're saying, but you have nothing to be ashamed of, you clearly see everyone as equals and that's all that matters.
@@shilpahosny4177 shut up as a black man im ashamed of gang culture. what he said makes sense.
You have an archaic way of thinking. Please evolve past 1940s logic.
@@chillhomie7 bro chill you lost the context of the convo!
Now you don’t know why I have likes 😉
Tyler Saraon
That’s what I thought too 🔥
@Callum tf? if thats what you took from that you need to retake english
@Callum fam, he has white people in his clique 😂 don't talk silly
Callum why would he promote equality if he hated white people😂 silly dude
@Callum He didn't mean it like "I'm better than white people" he meant it as the scenario that you could be in a workplace doing everything you can to prove yourself, working twice as hard as any of your lazy co-workers that you know you're better than, but not getting the praise or recognition because of the colour of your skin.
The way he walked off the stage man, He knew he just spoke absolute FACTS
im white and british but everything dave said is absolutely true, he is a national treasure
Gives me goose bumps good reaction love from ireland
"Black is stepping in for your brothers because your fathers gone"-A massive truth, that leaves many young black kids with no real male role model or influence in their lives. So,many find comfort in gangs because it fills the void and their longing for a family unit.I would die for my family in a heart beat and that is how they feel about the other gang members. If work can be done to keep the family unit together(i know its not always possible) and funding is given to provide placces for these lost souls to go and feel loved, respected, important and appreciated then it would go a long way to helping so many people turn their lives around.
Watched it a thousand times and get goosebumps every time. No other song gives me goosebumps on my face for real!! Dave is a genius.
I’ve watched this performance a thousand times but it still gives me goosebumps. Dave could of performed his most popular songs but he decided to do this one so props to him for using his platform to speak up.
No performance in music gives me chills like this. One of the most powerful performances in history for me, what an artist.
And that's one of the reasons he one album of the year!!!I'm so proud of him and stormzy I just wish these brothers were played over here in the United States 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾🇬🇧🇺🇸🇬🇧🇺🇸
Sad that this is relevant again and needs to be heard. Racism shouldn’t still be about
it never stopped being relevant. nothing in particular had happened when he dropped this song. it's just our reality as black people
Funny how the same thing happened to white women last year yet you dont talk about that
Joseph Clark nows not really the time mate
@@codymccormick5608 how is it not the time an innocent women was murdered by an officer yet you didnt want justice for her
Joseph Clark because it was not a crime of racism. Police brutality issues and racism issues are two completely different things.
He touches so many deep subjects, listen to “Dave - Lesley (ft ruelle)”
I swear every time I hear this song I get choked up. Speechless. Beautiful. Great review as always!
I remember listening to this when the album came out and it still gives me goosebumps
I love how Dave has never been scared to voice his opinion on things happening in Britain, especially our Priminister, on national television. Dave is a real one, he's one of the best acts ever on the Brits, I'm done. 👏
I have daves album. All of them. Heard Black many times and it was powerful. But this shit brought a tear to my eye while watching it last week 😔
He is lyrically gifted im a white irish man and this still sent shivers down my spine. best uk rapper
Three Rivers is another Dave song that will make you tear up aswell. Dave is the best lyrical rapper
Apart from the story of the song which was one of the most factual songs I’ve heard, he is so lyrically gifted and just such an inspiration for anyone this blokes amazing
One of the most inspiring performances of all time💯
I’ve watched this Dave performance like 20 times now and still gives me goose bumps every time
That last verse is not on the original track. Dave used his Brits performance to talk some home truths! love it
I'm black British this song made me tear up😭
I am a very proud englishman from Liverpool and i also know all my heritage is Irish.
I can not pretend to ever a tiny clue about these incredible lyrics and the meaning.
I honestly was amazed at the quality and thought and depth of intelligence at this young mans lyrics. wow !!!
Without doubt if this was 400 years old we woul be calling this man Shakespeare.
I’m white and have lost count at the times I’ve viewed this performance; I cry every time. Powerful stuff. Nice to see people across the pond seeing him. Dave is one of the best lyricists I’ve ever seen!
This guy is amazing and so wise beyond his years. An anthem like this is needed right now ❤️🇬🇧
These lyrics are spot on. When i watched this live i was amazed. This man makes me proud to be British. Nothing else. LOVE DAVE
Dave honestly speaks facts my heart goes out to him he ain’t one to start beef all he wants is peace and people to understand how life really is ,his music has such an important storyline behind it 🙂
Dave is definitely the greatest UK rapper already. Insane talent and putting it to good use.
Facts
I agree with this comment 100%! Stay safe mate ❤️
Seeing him gassed at the end got me man 😢
One of the most powerful, honest, thought provoking, pieces of art I've ever seen.
This was the reaction we all needed. The power of music
I liked how this guy reviewed this, well spoken. Amazing reaction vid.
I watched Dave perform this as it went out on TV and it hit me hard. Pure emotion.
Was eager for you to see this, so glad you've reacted to it! Highlight of the Brits
When you pause it you should press left on your keyboard so you go back a few seconds in case you miss something
I grew up in America in 80s an 90s an dave this song wow pac n big would b proud dave hands down a generational talent listen while hes here!! 4real !!
It's an older song of Dave's but 'Question time' is a very good song, similar to this but about problems within the UK government, that i think you should react to.
Big up all the coloured people who deal with racism not just black or brown everyone who deals with racism ❤️
I’m from the same area as where Dave came from in London and to see him performing at the Brit awards inspires me no cap
I keep trying to find reactions of this and now you've reacted. Yeeee
being from the uk it’s cool to see Dave getting reckonised in the USA
I've watched this more than 20 times and every time I get the tingles. Big up Dave, he's best british rapper, no cap.
This made me feel so many emotions. Being white I just don’t know what to say. I feel ashamed. I’m sending all my love.
BLACK LIVES MATTER. LETS MAKE CHANGE. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Beautiful song, I’m Middle Eastern some things I can relate too but even though I haven’t, it felt like I lived through every word that’s how good it is, makes me emotional how people have to still live through suffering like that 🥺
Dave is one of the truest artists around today. His album is outstanding. It’s not often a song will make me cry, but a few tracks on his album did for me. And the guy is still only 21, there’s so much more to come from him.
Big up Dave he’s always been on top 🇬🇧🔥
Please react to Dave black box freestyle it shows his life and is a deep and meaningful rap as he talks about his brother in prison and his other family issues
Please react to this song ooooh please
Have watched the original video dozens of times (and even shared in on FB and LinkedIn) but this is the first time I have seen your reaction video. I’m a middle aged white man and I genuinely think this is the song that we should use to drive equality. It’s so powerful, emotive and fact driven. You cannot disagree with it. It essentially describes an effect of all inequality. It is so fucking powerful.
Equality is a right, it doesn’t deserve credit
i don't know why but it gives me chills every time i listen to this absolute BANGER
I can't lie.... I was emotional when the original video to this first came out..... But this performance made me cry for real & I feel emotional everytime I watch it! 🔥 #proudofdave
