Recently saw and adored Poor Things. I'm shocked it didn't make a bigger stir as it pushed the line on so many things; design, sexuality, women's lib, etc. Movies are just not in the zeitgeis, it's the Internet now.
While I get the criticism here I think all of the participants are missing the fact that people simply don't have as much disposable income as they did ten years ago. If a streaming service can offer a consumer an unlimited amount of viewing for 10 dollars a month, why pay 10 dollars every time you wish to see a movie? The theatre industry has priced most families out of attending the movies regularly, which means fewer movies make it to the big screen.
The remakes of the classics, the parts 3/4/5 of adventure dramas, and the nonsense of the Oscars leaves me out of the movies theaters and online searching for entertainment and information. The guest stated my pov on the reasons for poor choices though number 1 reason is the “no child left behind” program gutted the public schools of creativity and curiosity, The movie industry reflects our dull. Sigh.
