    Interesting about the aerobic running pace. My resting heart rate is low but my athletic heart rate is crazy high and always has been. The slowest speed jog for me I'm hitting 150-160 bpm and at a casual jog I'm at 170, sprinting I'll hit 195-200. Am I okay? Lol

      I'm the same. Definitely gets a bit better if I'm properly hydrated, but otherwise I have no idea why.

      @@vidz953 Firstly it depends on how you measure you pulse while running, some watches are more accurate than other (my Amazfit TREX Pro is amazing for hikes, but it shows my pulse at 160-170 bpm for a 10 k run), while my Garmin shows around 155 bpm) and chest straps are more accurate than watches. Secondly there are people with a higher pulse. Did a heart check at my doctors on a excercise bike and my heart rate was up there. Doc said it's okay, there are people like me and it's normal as long as you know your heart is healthy. :)

    thank you so much for this video, it was soo helpful! i've been wanting to start running for a while now, but always ended up feeling discouraged with how start of a distance i can currently run, but your tips and suggestions have helped tremendously and have pushed and motivated me to give running another try regardless of how short or long of a distance i can run.
    your videos are the best girl, thank you so much for always being so open and transparent with us, it means the world

    Great video - good tips and your aerobic pace is really solid :) some interesting info is that recently we have shown that lactic acid doesn't actually exist. There is something called lactate which accumulated during exercise but isn't actually responsible for feelings of fatigue! Super interesting area and your tips are still relevant, just a bit of extra info xx

    The problem with using any formula driven approach for calculating HR zones is that HR is highly individual so will be wrong for most of the population. I know what my zones are through proper testing and the 180 formula doesn’t match what I know my aerobic zone to be

    Hi Lucy, I'm just starting to use Garmin & Whoop combo today. My heart rate zones on Garmin are set up LTHR but I read Whoop uses Max HR for the HR zones. Does this impact any readiness or recovery stats? I'd love to hear your experience using both. Awesome video! Definitely going to try more Zone 2

    I wouldn't recommend the nike Next% for the 100k. They are made for road racing, not trails

    • @LucyDavisFit

      I’m wearing 2 different pairs of shoes for my ultra and will be wearing these for half. If they’re comfortable for me and my hips, I’ll be wearing them, complete personal preference. And I’ve done 30-40k trail runs in them already but thanks 😁

  • @imperfected6513
    @imperfected6513 2 года назад

    The Nike next% are not recommended for trail running. If your are watching this and consider doing trail running please invest in proper trail shoes. It can get dangerous really fast when you don't have the proper footware with enough grip especially when it's wet and muddy out.

    • @LucyDavisFit
      @LucyDavisFit  2 года назад

      Did you not listen to what I said in my video? I can’t wear trail / flat foot shoes due to my hip tear. Clearly said it on the video that it’s personal to me and that trail shoes are better 😄

    • @imperfected6513
      @imperfected6513 2 года назад +1

      I did listen. I just felt the importance of wearing the proper shoes on trails was not clear enough. I have personally seen many people get in trouble because they underestimated the trails and feel strongly about this topic because of that. I am just worried about people not being safe out there.

    As an experienced runner, the shoes you are wearing are road racing trainers and can cause injury a lot quicker than a regular running shoe. Carbon plates are hard on your joints and only last a certain mileage. As you like the Nike tempo next%, I would recommend trying out the Nike Pegasus 3 trail gore-tex as they’d have similar spring but a lot more support and grip. I’d be very worried for you if you did the ultra in your current shoes, but I understand personal preference etc. All the best with your training I love watching your vids :)

    • @Nat-qw9sm
      @Nat-qw9sm 2 года назад +2

      Agree with this comment fully; also, the high stack height can cause problems on the trail as well since it’s really unstable on uneven ground! There’s a big risk of damaging your ankles or perhaps your hip further, which of course we don’t want to see happen.
      Wanted to note as well, that if you’re losing so many toenails and coming away from runs bloody, your shoes are probably too small or too narrow! Losing toenails isn’t necessarily a normal part of training. And being in so much pain that you have to ice your feet after runs isn’t normal either - as a running coach, I would recommend going to a speciality running store and being professionally fitted and trying on several different models to find what’s comfortable. I never got on with Salomon either as I find them really stiff and uncomfortable, but as the comment above suggests the Nike trail shoes may be an option for you!
      Best of luck, and I hope the training continues going well!

      Hey! Appreciate the comment however my ultra is on dried hard mud and most people who have done the ultra before say wear road shoes as it’s so hard underfoot 😁

    Unpopular opinion: but I would argue that Intervals are more beneficial for endurance runners than tempo runs. I belive it's important to run your hard days 'hard' and your easy days 'easy'. Tempo runs therefore defeate this well studied and reaserched ideology, as it's essentially a 'grey' zone of intensity right in the middle. So if an individual is doing a lot of tempo work then they are risking the bulk of their trainning load being consistantly in the middle zone, which is less likley to improve an individuals aerobic capacity and muscular endurance compared with long slower runs and they are less likley to improve an individauls anerobic capacity and strength compared with Intervals.
    Further to the point, Intensity is the only FITT principle that goes against the law of specificity. Recen't studies that have compared 10 minutes with 2 all out 20/30s sprints vs 30/40-minutes easy/ modertae running found that in the final assesment individuals that had completed the 10 minutes with 2 all out sprints were actually able to exercise for longer and at a higher intensity compared with the individuals that had trained with the longer durations of running.

    Great video! As a trail runner I would say if your ultra is truly on trails I would recommend finding a trail shoe that works for you! It makes the biggest difference on technical terrain. But if it's just like hard packed dirt with no rocks or roots maybe you'll be fine in the Nike :)

    Absolutely loving your videos and podcasts! In regard to ensuring you are running aerobically and at the correct heart rate, would you recommend constantly checking your heart rate during your run using a watch or monitor as a new runner or is there an app that will let you know that you're exceeding the aerobic heart rate?

    • @LucyDavisFit
