This is my favorite Arabic song. I mentioned it in my YA historical novel about Lebanon, titled "My Fatima". The following lyrics in English are based on the translation provided by my friend Lamia Attaya. Oh, messenger to the next village, Please take on your way this kerchief and give it to my love. With my hand that wears a bracelet, I've embroidered its edges. I've stitched his name on it using the kantan needle; And with the blue and red threads, the songs of the dark boys. I wrote to him a life story, and my tears were the writing. His house is at the end of all houses, and in front of it there’s an attic. You reach the house, you enter and hand over the present. And if he asks how many houses away is she, tell him to remember that On this yellow kerchief I’ll be sending him my letters. And bring me from him a souvenir─a sheet of paper or a picture. On the paper he’ll write verses; and on the picture, his name. And when the tearful songs are sung, let him ask about the owner of the kerchief. O messenger, please send my regards to my love. Take on your way this kerchief and give it to my love.

Tu m'apportes un souvenir de lui
