      Yep, and you see the guys like Ingram and Brown make leaps and bounds because of that dedication. It does make a difference when you immerse yourself in the year-round court work.

    The Milwaukee Bucks are a great example of how summer league develops chemistry. People forget Giannis played in like 4 straight summer leagues. The championship Bucks team, most of the important bench guys during the season, played in summer league. It is very important anyone 25 and younger.

      Giannis played in 1 summer league and there was no summer league prior to the year the bucks won due to covid. I agree summer league can be beneficial but don’t spread false information

      I totally agree!!! And the other point I would make is if injuries happen I would have wanted you to be on the court getting chemistry together so well be able to stay afloat instead of im just sitting out just because...

      Who's talking down on them? Everyone is trying to get on their good graces, for insight and props from players and their agents. That's how you get these divas demanding shyt. RJ is one of the very few holding them accountable here.

      Yup, for the most part the Heat do it right. That was how we got Strus to be what he was to us last season. He was ready a year ago but played the summer league and by the end of the reg season he was a starter.

      This is why youre not a gm. Why risk Green getting injured. A future star the org is spending millions on just to play some meaningless exhibition games. Makes perfect sense from a business stand point to have 0% risk of injury to your core players

    i was LITERALLY saying this while watching highlights this morning ....i think it also feeds some of the players egos making them feel like they are way more accomplished in the league than they are... i would even want to see Scottie Barnes play in the summer league

      confidence is key. sure physical ability is important but if you dont believe you can do something, you are less likely to. you could have lebron james who has 0 confidence in himself and he wouldnt even shoot. i could shoot a full court shot and sure i wont make it but maybe 1/1000 i will because i have confidence.

If you are practicing with the team you are building team chemistry, you can play in games when they have meaning. Pistons are doing the right thing with CADE and it other young star S Bey.

    Young players need reps and more reps, and actual games are far superior to practice, so unless they're injured or resting after a deep playoff run they NEED to be playing summer league. RJ is 100% correct and not at all ranting.

      Then they would go to a another team that allows them to get cocky. Why work harder when you can make boatloads of money easier. These "player" coaches and owners have become weak, masquerading as "player friendly" in an attempt to being an attractive destination over the competition. As a result, they get divas like kyrie and Simmons and cripple their organization.

    Grizzlies had Desmond Bane out there last summer dribbling the ball. He then became one of the most improved players in the league. They are doing the same thing to Ziare Williams. First round pick last year that started in the NBA playoffs, and they have him dribbling the ball up the court. These reps are important to the development of players.

    RJ is very close to the Nets Organization and he saw what summer league can do to a player. Just look at Jarrett Allen he played in summer league up until finishing his 3rd year in the NBA.

    Depends on the team. The raptors sidelined Barnes to let the other raptors rookies shine. And be evaluated on how they will perform without the raptors main players. So far most of raptors starters including Barnes are in Vegas with the summer league squad.

    I feel like it's beneficial for all the reason stated by RJ, but I feel most importantly if the young guy is say the 3rd option in the regular season, Summer League is your way of being the temp #1 option and building on things you might not be able to during a regular season or playoff game.

    If Kuminga, Moody, Wiseman and Weatherspoon who won the Chip last month are playing in the summer league, there is no excuses for other teams not put their second year guys on the floor.

      Especially when most of these teams did not even play in the playoffs XD if they really love basketball they should be willing and excited to play in any competition available. Look at luka. Hes already playing for his country after the play offs. These young players need to be motivated and greedy to play better. Some of these top picks act like they prove themselves already lol They should be ashamed watching when they are healthy to play.

    I agree to some extent but I think the main reason they aren’t playing is because the coaches want to see more of the players who are playing for a spot while they have already decided on keeping the players that aren’t getting playing time.

    If I was an owner watching this clip, i’d make it a requirement. Play in the SL and if you’re a vet, at least be out there coaching/cheering/building chemistry. If a team did that, it would send a huge message to the league and the fans.

    well look at Anfernee Simons and Gary Trent junior those 2 were riding the back end of the blazers roster and they went to multiple summer leagues after their rookie year had stints in gleague and look where they are now. Its how alot of high picks can end up being shown up by late first round or second round picks because they are willing to commit to the smaller things

    in a team sport you can only get better playing with your teammates. you will begin to develop cohesion and you will learn how to play to each others strengths. you will know where you mates are at all times. you can put 3 superstars together and lose games because they havent played with each other. the summer league is a great tool, and i like that they can win a ring doing it.
