SPB-3 vs SPB-1 which one is better?
I don't know that that's necessarily the right question, it really just depends on the sound you want out of your bass. I've never played SPB-1's so I cant speak for them. The SPB-3's in mine sound amazing, I've never liked the tone more out of my P-Bass than I do now. From what I've heard on here the SPB-1's sound good too, just not the sound I wanted.
WoriusPL SPB-1 will sound nearly identical to the the '62 Fender P-Bass pickup. They even use the same wires as the '60s pickups. They're great if you need that vintage tone from your P-Bass. The SPB-3 will give you a much bigger sound, due to its large pole pieces. It's much more modern in its tone, eliminating a lot of that "woody" sound associated with Precision Basses.
Thanks a lot!
SPB-3 i guess you can check sample sound on my videos. already upgraded my bass :)
I replaced the pups on my Fender PJ bass with Seymore Duncan 1/4 pound pups. Man...like night and day. So much more "umph" and crispier when needed. It's like a whole new bass. VERY satisfied.
Does it matter in what position the pickup with "Seymour Duncan" written on the pick cover goes, top or bottom ?
I installed these SD QP in my p bass and when I touch the pick up pole it buzzes can you help?
Where did you get the pick guard because i was reading a standard p bass pick guard doesn't exactly fit a affinity p bass. Also did you just strip all the paint off the body and put a clear coat on it because it looks really cool. I got a blue one for $45 and I've already replaced all the electronics except the pick ups which I am going to eventually put some Quarter Pounders jn because I've read quite a few reviews of affinity p bass owners that have said they completely transformed the p bass.
The pickguard itself we ran off my buddies CNC machine and made it out of plywood, stained it with ebony stain and clear coated it. My pbass you see here was also a blue affinity series and with those Quarter Pounders in it, sound amazing! I highly recommend shielding the entire electronics cavity! you can watch part one of our pbass project where we did that to this one.
are you 3 brothers? nice video
Did you guys use the sticky foam inside the box?
We did end up using the foam under the pickups as well as the spring screws
What kind of bass body is that made of..looks like theres 6 type's of wood glued together.
6? try closer to 12, lol. It's a Made in Indonesia Squire Affinity Series. I stripped the paint off of it because I wanted to paint it something else, but once I saw the butcher block of God knows what, it looked to cool to cover up, so I stained and clear coated it. My favorite theory Ive heard so far is used fence posts.

@@TheManCardChannel lol.. I love it. Very original!
i didnt know they made squiers in natural wood finish?
To be fair they didn't. There's a quick before and after picture in our PBass upgrade Pt 1 video. But it used to be blue. I think this looks much nicer! The butcher block look is gorgeous.
What make was the p bass? And what make pickups?
This P-Bass was a cheap 2002....ish Fender Squire Affinity Series P-Bass. We installed Seymour Duncan pickups model SPB-3.
You don't have to cover the whole scratch plate with copper
oh absolutely correct, but what was I supposed to do with the left over? save it? na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na........batman
Nice Review,, I do the same thing but on my sterling. I do some review on my videos guys
Why remove the strings?
Sean Duggan,
We removed them just to make it easier on ourselves. You could not remove the string but the extra 38 seconds I think is worth the convenience
38 seconds to unstring, then restring, tune to pitch, let the neck settle to tensioned shape, check tuning and allow for any changes in tune or intonation? Pretty impressive
Sean Duggan
Thanks we appreciate your expert opinion. Although unless you plan on stretching the hell out of your strings to remove everything or loosening them, Youre still relieving tension on the neck my loosening the strings to get the pick ups off. To each his own my dude. We wish you the best in your personal upgrades and hope to see some videos from you so we can watch other people's techniques.
Never come across a PB that needed the strings even downtuning vaguely flat to change pickups...ymmv
I like the SPB-3 better. Check out my QuarterPounder Jazzbass video, too.
Ive really been enjoying my SPB-3's over the last few months. Would love to see about adding a musicman pickup to the bridge at some point as well!
