Excellent demo! Just one added step.. take off the brake fluid cap before starting the job to let out air bleed out
Yes good point
Moral of the story: Never pay a shop $350 bucks for a brake job.
or even $1150.
Kevbox2008 Pepboys tried to charge me 210$ for the front brake pads changing and told me it could be done within 30 minutes . I think they are insane.
Learn how to do this and offer the service to family members and friends for a small fee :)
Ultimately, owning the tools pays itself in this job.
No Everyone es capable to do this Job
@@angelrodriguez6973 but most people can learn it easily
Thank you, you save me more than $500 dollars. I took my car to honda dealership today for oil change and was told I need to replace my front brakes $380 and brakes fluid $165.
500% what i needed. thanks so much for the video and not talking through it. Also your 1200 BC shoes at the end almost made me choke.
Fisherman sandals, my dude...real masculine💪
Have to replace the starter on my fit, decided to do it my self. Since I’ll save by not taking it to a mechanic. Decided to change the break pads too. Thank you for your video 🙌🏼
Terrific video! Thank you for sparing us the endless talking so many DIY people do on their videos.
Great video. One suggestion though - try using cutips for applying the grease and such.
Great video. Just did my breaks for the first time and it was seemless! Very appreciative sir!
I love these videos , no voice no music , kind of soothing too... thanks
Thanks for the video, helped me take care of my daughters car for her and that make me feel good
Really useful video, straight to the point , ty sir 💪🏽 jiffy lube will no longer be getting me for my cash anymore
Probably the best DIY video I've seen on RUclips. 👍👍👍
I enjoy watching this so much, I watched it about 20×
Do a video of replacing your clippers for your Honda civic
Deserves an award for this video.
Using silicone paste and copper grease. Better than using normal grease that ruin the rubber parts. Good job.
You did that Great man, Good Job makes me want to record my Brake Job. I have a 09 Kia Spectra EX 74K Miles currently. and nobody has done a deep brake system change on this car, i might just do that.
Record it and post it! It's all about helping people out.
@@MrRangerZr1 yes it is you are correct, Thanks.
Thank you very much ! Saved me on repairs. Plus now i know how to do it myself. Win win !
Great video, Very self explanatory and detailed too. Good work
Love the practicality of this video! Thank you so much
Excellent video. I like your style. My only question is why you decided not to turn rotors? I was always told to turn rotors every time you change pads for better braking and a clean mating surface for new brake pad material. Your video is excellent. Thanks for your time
I didn't replace anything lol just filmed a DIY video for you guys.
I talked to a Honda technician in Oklahoma recently and he said they do not replace the rotors unless there is an obvious problem with them like grooves. So I am going with that. This is only my 2c.
This is what I need ....thanks 👍.
Question, is there a manual I can purchase to learn how to do other repairs?
You can find official honda shop manuals online
@@MrRangerZr1 where, what website?
@@coreturkoane5570 you can find on amazon/ebay
Thank you Mr. Ranger going to switch out my brakes soon on my 2015 Civic. I feel confident now.
I got the same ride, ex-l. lmk how it went!
Love the silent movie w birds chirping! Did I miss seeing the actual pads? I don’t know what I’m looking at either - first brake job I’ve ever seen I changed cabin and engin air filters myself this week. First time. Piece of cake. Other than oil change, what are the essentials to keep car in shape. I’ve never done much more than oil and timing belts, occasional fluids, brakes when needed, on 5 cars now. They all last at least 140-180k, then I sell and buy another.
Pads are shown around the 1:45 time mark.
Just keep up the regular servicing, nothing more needed honestly. Don't ever listen to dealerships and replace what you really need and you're set.
MrRangerZr1 whAt constitutes regular servicing? I have done the ‘X miles recommended check’ Once or maybe twice per car but not every so many miles that dealership to tell you to do it. Are you suggesting I should be doing that when I say do it at 30,000 miles 75,000 miles 100,000 miles etc.?
I meant just keep up whatever you're doing maintenance wise. Replace/repair as needed.
Thanks for the tutorial video! I guess the next vid, interior detailing of your car. 👍🏼
nice video.. simple to understand and one can do after watching this.
Great video, I have only one comment, you should never reuse the brake pad clips. New ones are given for a reason.
Yes you're correct. New pads come with new hardware, use them. I didn't have new clips when I filmed this video.
my passenger side front brake won't stop squealing after driving for a while. it's "driving" me nuts.
Poor quality brake rotors/pads check the ones I listed in the description they are quality
Wheres the video for rear rotors and pads?
Coming soon
How is that piece from the caliper when putting in the pads not moving around
The spring? Notice how I reinstall the caliper.
Why did you do that in 5:59-6:15?
To compress the pistons so the new pads would install
MrRangerZr1 thank you!
@@MrRangerZr1 is it highly detrimental if I skipped this step? I can't figure where to buy this tool you've used or its name.
Awesome,😍😍😍😍 So nice and clean work....
How much torque you put in?
How bro I just replaced my brake pads, no problems at all except the front passenger side squeaks and squeaks a bit. Any idea what it could be?
What brand pads did you put on? You should resurface or replace the rotor when changing the pads.
Did you use aftermarket metal clips?
great video, and thanks for the links
6:05 What are you doing here? What is the purpose? Thanks. Great vid.
Todd S. Compressing the caliper to fit the new pads in :)
Is the rear the same? I can’t your video on rear brake change .
Same process really
@@MrRangerZr1 thank you
Why didn't you replace the pads? They look almost worn out, no? Thank you for the video!
Roman Pushkar didn’t need to replace them at the time. I just recorded a video for you folks :)
@@MrRangerZr1 Great job man, I appreciate what you've done.
How many foot pounds on the torque wrench at the end? Thanks man great content !
Torque specs in the description. Thanks
Bro how much torque you aplied to tighten bolts
Listed in description
What spray bottle did you use to spray the clips with? @2:22
Brake cleaner.
Does it have to be silicone paste or any grease will do?
Silicone paste
When do you change the rotors?
I bought a 2015 Honda civic and brakes are squealing should I just change everything?
Yes change everything
Excellent video!
When doing front and back. Do I pump the brake pedal after the front is done or when front and the rear is completed? Please help . New at this
Just before you put the car in gear after finishing the job.
Between the standard Civic and the Si is there any difference in the brake system? Does not seem like it at first glance but I've seen parts listing differ from thE LX EX to the Si
Slight differences
Hey don’t you need to bleed the piston when pushing it back?. I’m trying to do my brakes I never done it before thanks.
Not necessarily. Just check the brake reservoir level as your pushing the piston in.
2:20 are those the wear indicators?
Clips which hold the brake pads, wear indicators are on the brake pad.
@@MrRangerZr1 Thank you, I am watching all your civic video
Hey when I replaced my brake pads, my brake fluid started to leak from the reservoir. Do you know why? I copied everything u did in this vid.
Lee Sun that happened because you pushed the pistons into the calipers which forced the fluid level to rise. Next time watch the level and remove fluid as needed.
Do you recommend the same replacement for the rear pads and is akebono a good brand?
civic12 honda yes. I use nothing but akebono pads. Low brake dust and best performance.
what is that screw thing you are using? O.o
Brake piston compressing tool link in description
How many Ft LBS torque spec for calipers bolts?
Info in description
great video thanks!
What did you use to spray it with to clean it?
brake cleaner
Great video thank you
Hello,
Are you certain those pads work for every 2012 honda? Planning to order soon if that is the case.
Well not every 2012 honda. What year and model do you have?
honda civic! Pretty sure it is an LX or a DX. sorry for not being specific
Amazing video
so i have a synthetic brake & caliper grease that contains pfte, moly and graphite. can i use that for the slide pin? also what about the part where i insert the pad in?
Use the silicone paste I used, anything else will swell the rubber. Use antizseize on the tangs of the brake pad.
thanks for the quick reply. im gonna use sil glyde (bit.ly/2HWfwbl) and this anti seize (bit.ly/2FFu2nh)
wow, what a great video.
MrRangerZr1 do you know the caliper break bracket bolt torque specs on a 2014 honda civic?
Yes it's in the description :)
When you change the pads do you have to do something with the fluid .. so curious to try this out lol
No just watch the fluid when you're pushing the brake caliper piston back in. DO IT! Its satisfying to know you got the job done correctly!
MrRangerZr1 I tried it dude and it went perfect thanks so much for the video
Awesome!
As I was undoing the part with the 12 mm socket it was leaking
What do you recommend for replacing the rotors? What brand is best I meant I have a 13 civic lx with 110k going to replace the shitty pads I out on around 75k lol . So doing rotors also with new pads .
Centric rotors and akebono pads. All listed in description :)
@@MrRangerZr1 ok thanks man
Would this be the same process for the hybrid models?
Same if not similar
I Would Replace The Brake Hardware Since I'm Saving Money Doing It Myself
Always change the brake hardware, it comes with new pads
Thank you!
this work the same as the rear?
Steven Moniaga yes. Some cars use the caliper as the brake and emergency brake, like a 8th gen accord. For those, you need to press in the caliper piston with a special tool.
@2:30 what are using for spray ?
brake cleaner
When do you have to do that? How many kms?
Whenever you need to change them. Depends on your driving.
What’s that spray you use thanks
Brake cleaner
What was the spray you used?
Brake cleaner
Are you also going to make a video for changing the front brakes of 2013-2017 accord?
It's on the list
Copper grease? In 2017/18? That stuff washes off to easily.
I always use synthetic paste by Wurth
That's what everyone uses, the copper or aluminum anti-seize. Copper doesn't break down that easily.
And they wanna charge 600 for this ? Im doin this shit myself
How about the civic rear brakes?
Same process but pushing in the rear piston requires you to use a special tool.
@@MrRangerZr1 Thanks for great vid, can you tell me what kind of tool for rear caliper piston compression (if different from one you used on front calipers)
Easier to buy a new car
What are thoooossseee ??? 😂😂😂
Excellent video,,,
no talking,,,,
no weird music,,,
Just plain work,,, good job
Good vid ................ right to work without telling everyone the history of brakes. Good camera work, thanks for sharing. Parts list was a plus!
I have been working on cars since my grandfather could beat the concept in my head, so I’ve changed countless pairs of pads.
That being said, never have I used these silicones or anti seizes for brakes. Last night I changed my friend’s Civic’s pads as a kind gesture, and utilizing these lubricants made such a world of difference in installation alone! Never too late to learn something new!
Thanks for the video and insight!
You don't have to use silicone or any other paste for the sliding pins. It depends where you live. In dusty countries that silicone will gum up with dust in time and actually slow down your caliper in engaging/retreating after you press/release the brake. You can see the dirty pins in this video too. Just clean them thoroughly if you live in such place.
Excellent video! I'm almost at 70k on my 2015 and i am now starting to hear my brakes squeak. I'm looking forward to replacing my pads thanks to you.
Not only is your video easy to follow, you also gave us the torque specs in the description. Often times people post videos but some of us don't know the torque specs or are not aware that something like brake line bolt could have a torque spec. So thank you so much for that :)
Used this video yesterday for my first(ever)brake pad replacement on my 2015 Civic LX. Well thought out and clear directions. Made the job significantly stress free and fun. Thank you-looking forward to doing the rear pads in the Fall.
Did you have to bleed the brakes? I’m looking forward to doing my brake today. Just not to sure if I need to bleed them as well
Bro you saved me 1000 bucks .
$1000. Sheeeeesh that’s heavy
Who the hell would charge you $1k to do front brakes? Even dealers don't charge that much.
Lee St.louis trust me its possible
Reaching even the expensive f-150s we don’t charge that much at dealerships
Thanks a lot for this video man! I finally changed my own brake pads and rotors on my 2015 Honda civic thanks to your video. Cheers!
Great job. Thanks. Very quiet and peaceful video compared to most videos heavy with trance and techno music.
Nice little video, but i would suggest everytime you replace the brake pads to go ahead and replace the hardware also. It will keep new brakes from squealing. Most of the better quality brakes you buy come with them anyway.
Devin Grose I think he just put the same ones on. Just to show how to do it
Very helpful video-well done-thanks for including torque specs and links to parts. Wife just got estimate of $350 pads only replacement . Been awhile since I bothered wrenching. Thinking it’s time she gives it a try-we can work together.
Definitely doable.
How did it go?
Wife rolled eyes, looked at me like I was speaking a foreign language. In short: Nothing done.
AWESOME video. Used it today, felt like a man! Never paying for a brake change again.
I owe you a beer. Just fixed my car with this. Thanks
Super easy to follow for a complete beginner like me. Thanks for the vid bro
I changed my brakes pads and rotors today. Very helpful video. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks bro, just changed the brakes
holy hell its THAT EASY!?! why the hell have i been paying 300 bucks for this all these years?!
mechanic told me it cost $400 to replace rotors... is it worth I do it myself?
Yes easy job as you seen in the video
Great video. No need to talk about the history of the car or what kind of pet you have.
Very good video. Very clear & the best part is that the camera is not moving all the place like most other videos. You just helped a lot of people to save $$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Spent 140 on rotors and brakes and installed them myself. Not worth paying to dealer shop. They offered me 400 dollars to do my brakes and rotors.
Thanks for the video! Just fixed mine, mechanic’s always up selling people on rotors!
hey bro ..if youre bored one day...you can do mine... i have all the parts...lol
Resurfaced rotors or are they new?
In this video, I just showed how to replace the pads. If I needed rotors, I would buy brand new rotors. The rotors on the car now are factory rotors.
why brand new, why not resurface them?
