For those wondering : Asterix basically is to France what Mickey Mouse is to the USA ( 65 years of comic books and counting, even got his own massive amusement park) Alain Chabat is in charge of this series, he was also in charge of the only good live action one (the others are trash) among other things. Half of the story of "the Big Fight" has already been adapted in the late 80's mixed with another adventure. Also it's AsteriX and ObeliX, not asterisque and obelisque, these are just french words.
The live action movies are so famous in poland for their god tier dub, they added so much jokes, the same amount of praising is for the penguins of madagascar (tv series) lol
Every Astier fan remembers it. As something of a Astier fan, I do. If one day you guys can find a version with subtitles, I recommend you Kaamelott or The AstroConference. But are super productions, in their respective categories (series and Conference)
As a french person we're sooooo thrilled to see this! Especially because it's made by Alain Chabat (Astérix & Obélix : Mission Cléopâtre is an absolute classic here, truly one of the best french movies ever made) If you want to see more of it, Alexandre Astier (beloved actor/comedian/director as well) made two amazing animated movies alongside Louis Clichy (Pixar animator on Wall-E/Up) called "Asterix : Le Domaine des dieux" and "Asterix : Le Secret de la potion magique" visually they are very similar to the upcoming Netflix adaptation! I truly hope you'll enjoy this as much as we do, Chabat's (and Astier) take on Astérix & Obélix are basically unmatched (Give the french version a chance as well, acting/voice acting on these particular projects are absolutely amazing)

The curious thing is "The Big Fight" already was animated in the 1989 and I watched it as a kid, but from what I now know it was a lot closer to other story than the Big Fight itself. I maybe remembering wrong, but that animation combined Big Fight with "Asterix and the Soothsayer". Of course if I'm wrong someone can correct me.
Asterix and the Gauls thrashing the Roman legionnaires with the stylized effect and onomatopoeia that gets closer to the original comics has the same vibe as the fusion between _The Peanuts Movie_ and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

A bit of background here: so Asterix is the most successful comic series in the world, exceeding any American comic and even exceeding Tintin. The character was born in 1959 in France. But for all this success, it needs to be added that 40% of the sales were in France, another 40% in Germany, and the rest for the rest of the world. So yes, the readership is pretty much European. Needless to say, it is a comic series that can be read at any age, with lots of innuendos and wit. The English translation is on point and can even be considered superior to the French version (the dog is called Dogmatix, a nod to the original Idéfix - "fixed idea", some French meaning for dogmatism - brilliant)
I know Asterix and Obelix the Middle Kingdom didn't do too great in reviews, but I wonder if it's performance on Netflix had any impact on their decision to back this adaptation.
Good to see that americans finally get quality content :) - Asterix brought a global intrest into the Roman Empire and the people they fought and conquered. Except of one village, though...

the thing is astrix and obelix alredy has 2 movies in this style
I know Asterix and Obelix the Middle Kingdom didn't do too great in reviews, but I wonder if it's performance on Netflix had any impact on their decision to back this adaptation.
Yes I love Asterix and I’m not even French!
What about mansion of the gods and the secret of the magic potion they have a somewhat similar style
Yes, they did
They better not cancel this like Coyote vs. ACME
I never expect you to mention about asterix and obelix since none of the reviewers mention anything about this franchise?
Good to see that americans finally get quality content :) - Asterix brought a global intrest into the Roman Empire and the people they fought and conquered. Except of one village, though...
there's already one
The Kirby music in the background fits perfectly
