Since the last great war, the U.S. has been Greenland's sole defense mainly due to the fact that it's in the best interest of the U.S. However, both the people of Greenland and Denmark have benefited financially by being relieved of the burden of defense costs. It seems reasonable that the U.S. should get the sole right to buy the rights to extract resources from Greenland. Otherwise, perhaps they should be billed for 75 years of military protection; same goes for every other nation that depends on the U.S. military.

Seeing how seriously they are taking this situation, I expect a mutually beneficial deal to be made.
Greenland isn't going to be taken by force, but the fact that everyone believes it could be has gotten the ball rolling.
Fear is a big player in negotiations and everyone is falling right into it.
Consider: Most of Europe HAS already been invaded and hijacked by foreigners. Huge swaths of Africa have been taken over by the Chinese. This all happened in the matter of a few decades. The integral structure of Europe IS already compromised. Denmark CAN'T rely upon the UE and NATO to keep up security when their own countries are falling apart.

The problem is EU as far as I can gather. They want to get something out of it from the US since Trump cut them off from the Ukraine peace talks. That and they don't want Trump to get the political credit of getting Greenland under US as much as they could without getting anyrhing out of it. Trump cut them off from Venezuela too.
