    This is an extremely fine work and in my opinion this is the best interpretation it has received. There have been other very good recording of this work but none of them convey the intensity and drama as well as Munch does here. In addition this orchestra is very good but it no longer exists for reasons not known to me

      Great thanks for posting this, The work was commissioned by Munch on behalf of the Boston Symphony and presumably performed by but evidently never recorded by the Boston orchestra

    Seems to me Dutilleux's first symphony was a lot better than his second. I'm guessing the inferiority of his second symphony annoyed him. He may have later started writing a third symphony, hoping to get his mojo back, but then during that process he saw that it wasn't coming back. In any event he decided to hang up symphony writing for good.

      i also love the 1 but the 2 is objectively more refined
