This week I built a portable solar food dehydrator.
I made it portable because I have the best sunlight on my rooftop and I want to be ableto take it backinside when its raining.

    This was ingenious!!
We sat watching and my wife, who hadn't seen the title, was trying to guess what you were making.
"A cupboard? Shelves? A bee hive?? Wait.. a food dryer??? We need one of these!"

Super creative, beautifully edited and perfect soundtrack to boot! To make it easier to lug around, you may want to throw a shoulder strap on it.
Love the deployment/storage concept - well conceived and most of all: THANKS FOR THE VIDEO!

Very nice solution! This spring I build my second version of solar Dehydrator. I used a black painted aluminium plate so that the air can flow below and above the plate. This produce so much heat that you need a small fan. I use a 5V laptop fan powered by small solar cells. At clear days I usualy get just below 60°C... perfect temerature from my point of view.

could you describe more ?? just built mine and doesn't go more than 40* ... i'm sad because i'm not sure it's enough.thanks

  • @databanks

Just a little mesh on the air intake and this is perfect for my climate (we have issues with flies, hence the mesh). Summer temps regularly hit 40C and above. Should keep the kangaroos in dried apples nicely

Dont understand how people can get upset with this premiere thingy. Its purely optional and beeing so negativ about such a stupid extra feature towards an actual skill full and creative content creator is just dumb

That's really cool. My mother bought an electric one when we moved to Portugal. Apples, apricots and pineapples are really good. I might build one although I don't possess your fine carpentry skills so it will be, for sure, a lot more rough and badly assembled. Thanks for another great video. Cheers

Its a shame to see some negative and rather nasty comments on the use of the premier feature. Perhaps those complaining could engage their brain and realise there is no delay, you got the video when Laura was ready to make it live, only this time you got prior warning of the precise time and you could come and interact with Laura if you wanted too. What difference does it make to you if you get a premier announcement or the video just pops into your feed at 7pm? Not a bit....other than an excuse for internet malcontents to hammer on their keyboards! Laura...I loved the video and the premier idea was awesome, its nice to see you answer some questions about the build "in the moment" as it were. Thank you. :)

    • @JBLewis
      @JBLewis 6 лет назад

Stuart Martin I'm not knocking that Laura used the premier feature, I kinda like it! I merely commented that at noon my time, instead of the video becoming available, it's listing just disappeared.

I've been thinking of building a solar dehydrator, but this design is fantastic! Very similar to the design I have, but the fact that it's so portable and stores up nice and small is genius. Great job!

Was going to say overbuilt and Id save my time and work on cabinetry, but when the fold out system came up. Yes very nice built I'm no engineer work with many, but this is better than some, I build in wood metal glass bla bla. Very nice build... wished I planted food !!
