In Spiderman (2002) the green goblin's costume did not have nearly enough corn and was nothing like his comics counterpart, the corn-of-coblin
I feel like they ripped off Jet Jaguar with the 2002 film. The suit was shown as a prototype in one scene, so was the helmet also designed to look that way by scientists? If so, BOO!

I appreciated when Betty Ross suggested Bruce wear stretchy purple pants in the Incredible Hulk. That concept needs to be seen through.
I hope at some point they do bring Savage Hulk back, if only for the stretchy purple pants, but also because I think they could actually pull off something a bit more introspective with Hulk and Banner after shows like Wandavision.

I actually bet they will try and find a way to fit it in even if it’s only for a little bit. In both Loki and Wandavision they’ve managed to throw the comic outfits in in some way which I think is neat.

Klaw in the comics is literally made of solid sound and has this brightly colored suit. In the MCU Klaw is just Andy Serkis.
And he couldn't be better (unless he survived and actually used his powers)
I love that the role where he's playing a character who's supposed to be made of sound with a big laser beam hand thing is one of the few times Andy Serkis ISN'T playing an almost-entirely CGI creature.
What...I'm appalled they didn't bring up the InHumans. Seeing as they love it so much.
I still think the perfect time to have given Iron fist his costume would have been at the very end of The defenders (of the Earth?) when Matt tells Danny to protect the city and at the end we see Danny on the rooftop just in regular clothes. Right there would've been a great reveal of him wearing his actual costume.
Could even have been explained that he took Matt’s DD Mark 1 ninja costume and recoloured it, cut some little eye holes in the head bit
Agreed was the perfect moment for a costume reveal, the fact that Danny is super rich and can buy his friend a robot arm but can't get himself a super suit was so silly to me.
he kinda wears it in season 2 i know its just like a 1 second cameo but the mask actually looked alright i feel like it could have worked as his main outfit throughout the whole season, why is Daredevil like the only one they even attempted a costume at

To be fair, Luke Cage has just been a yellow shirt and some dark pants for years now, which Mike Colter wore several times on the show. They even gave him the headband for a bit in one episode.
One I loved was the purple man, realistically you can't have a guy who is literally purple walking down the street. David Tennant wearing a full purple suit was the next best thing
He also progressively turned more purple because of whatever drug made it more powerful in that show

Deadpool & Wolverine proved the "comic accurate suits are too ridiculous" argument wrong. They're way cooler than any of the boring "realistic" and "modernized" MCU suits.
Some of them work but some really don’t. Modernizing Hawkeye was smart the not mask was a good decision.

...and to think, they DID film an homage to the classic suit, albeit on some other LARPer at the 'tourney' but then cut it from the final product!

In defense of aunt May, the MCU draws a lot from the Ultimate universe where May is younger than 616. Plus Marisa Tomei is 56, not her fault she just happens to look good lol

Aunt May being younger makes a lot of sense though... she should be around the age his mother would be if she were alive and he's in high school.
Aunt May, unless she's a great aunt, shouldn't look like she's 70 IMO
large age differences exist between siblings, and it's possible peter's mom got him late. the age never bothered me. with aunt may it's more. how much of a fragile old lady you want her to be (which is sort of ridiculous in the comics a lot where it can be 'let's not scare aunt may too much she might fall over and die if she got surprised' )
Actually it depends at what time Peter got adopted, her being older would still make sense if Peter came at their home when she was already 50 years old, if you want her to be younger then the adoption should take place when Aunt May is 40 years old or something, that way both different scenarios would still make sense.
@@Lukkilikka I know that; there's nothing wrong with her being older, but a lot of people think of siblings as generally being around the same age (within 5 years or so).
With that in my mind, it seems kinda normal for her to be ~ early 40's if Peter is ~ 16

@@Lukkilikka the reason why they made Aunt May fragile in the comics is because she gave more relatable problems and stakes for Spider-Man, him being responsible for Aunt May was extremely vital and almost his entire driving motivation in many iterations of the character, it was about making Peter stepping up for his family and fill the void that Uncle Ben left. The MCU version completely ignores all of that for the sake of being different or bringing "rEaLiSm" and everything seems fine because now people are satisfied with jerking off at Marisa Tomei everytime she's on screen.
Aunt May getting younger is because she's significantly younger in the Ultimate universe. In the main universe, she's more like 80's or 90's, while Ultimate Aunt May is in her 50's.

I like how we're reaching an era where characters are really starting to look like their comic book counterparts. It definately beats the black spandex in the earlier X-men movies!
The costume designers are finding more and more ways of making certain elements of the comics book comics look cool in the movies and series. And also... these movies now have larger budgets for that purpose, which was mostly unthinkable in the 90s and early 00s...

@@Vintage_geek That maaay be true.. maybe.. but then again, costumes (and their budget) have always been a crucial component of these movies. Take the non-existing Nic Cage Superman movie. The costume budget, just in pre-production, was astronomical. They were intending for something crazy, flashy, and colorful. X-men just went the easy route and gave everyone a black suit, which is not surprising considering it came out right after Blade and Matrix. Convenience + cool factor of that era. I think creative choices are more important than budget here.
LMFAO wouldn't get your hopes up that X-men are going to wear the ridiculous trash outfits they wear in the comics...Movie Wolverine is LMFAO never going to wear that stupid looking thing on his head, the black LEATHER was perfectly fine and something a human being might actually wear in reality.
@@lutherheggs451 I think it's possible for the costumes in the comics to be adapted. They adapted Magneto's terrible-looking helmet. I think they could make Wolverine work by replacing the spandex with tactical gear or something. I liked the black leather at first, but I got bored with it extremely quickly. To me, it all felt soulless and needlessly gritty.
I haven't really minded having to see Thor without his helmet all that much, but I did notice in Love and Thunder that they've started to incorporate his classic comic book colors into his suit more, so that I do appreciate.
And I'm sure I'd be among the minority on this, but I actually do like Captain America's suit in the first Avengers movie the best. His suit in The First Avenger made sense as a period wartime uniform with elements of his iconic design still put into it, and I get that his suit in The Winter Soldier was designed for him by S.H.I.E.L.D. specifically for more stealthy assignments where he isn't meant to stand out, but his Avengers 1 uniform is how I would personally envision the character looking in these movies. If there was one thing I would change about the design I would have just kept the strap-on helmet instead of the cowl, because I feel like it would have made the suit look better.
While Sam Wilson being Captain America now is still going to take getting used to, I have to admit that I think his suit looks really good also.

I still think they should've used the original Hawkeye costume. If Wolverine's mask can work in live action, so can a mask that's basically a purple version of it.
If polka dot man isn't too ridiculous for the movies then Hawkeyes mask should be just fine, it's not super different from wolverines or Batman's.
I remember that in Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, Galactus was never actually shown, but his weird helmet shape was implied as the shades over some celestial body.
Originally Shrek was grey but they changed him to green for the movies!

Isn't it weird though that Peter Parker is meant to be a teenager and yet he has an aunt that looks like she's in her 70s? Doesn't it make more sense that she's a woman in her 40s/50s?

Uncle Ben is Richard Parker's brother and Aunt May isn't related to the Parkers (obviously). For the sake of argument, let's say when Peter Parker was 17 Uncle Ben and Aunt May were both 75. That puts them at 58 years old when Peter was born. It's not unheard of for parents to have more children much later in life, even after their first child becomes an adult. So if Ben's parents had him when they were young and then had Richard 15-20 years later, that puts Richard at about 38-43 years old when Peter was born. That might be older than one would expect, but it's also not that uncommon for couples to wait many years before deciding to have kids. It's also entirely possible that Richard was about the same age as Ben and simply married someone young enough to have kids with. So while a teenager having a 70+ year old aunt may not be the norm, it's not really that crazy or unrealistic. Especially when the grandson of the 10th U.S. president only just died last year.

We did get the feather wings in Thor 4 for like a second. For Hawkeye we did get a more comic accurate suit in the show of course, but I think looking at Wolverine's mask in Dp&W, they could give Hawkeye a cool live-action mask as well.
You should do this for DC when suicide squad comes out.
I was shocked that Peacekeeper had a comics realistic costume. Instead of Mall Ninja Taticticool Crap all other non-powered characters wear nowadays.

If you have inter dimensional space at your disposal, it makes it hard to write scenarios where you will be challenged as a character, unless the whole thing goes wild. I haven’t seen the film, but I think the idea they settled on will work.
To be fair to the new Suicide Squad, I think Gunn got a _lot_ of them comic accurate: King Shark, Polka Dot Man, the Peacemaker, the Thinker, even their Rick Flagg is wearing more comic-accurate colors. You could maybe argue that Harley wearing edgy stripper gear instead of a harlequin bodysuit is not comic-accurate, but IIRC that look was specific to the Batman the Animated Series. Mallcore streetwalker has been her go-to costume even in the comics recently.

@@luhedi6303 Helmets and wigs are really uncomfortable to use, specially in action scenes. Having to redo a scene multiple times because they fall or move too much is one of the main issues

I still feel using the Ronin suit as a basis you could make a more classic inspired outfit that worked. Obviously never 100% but you could get something recognisable and distinct that looked good.
I cannot wait for the eventual debut of Namor in the MCU. Hopefully they'll cast an up-and-coming actor because the repetitive John Kransinski roles are getting too stale tbh. I mean he's great, but I want to see other faces too, you know.

john krasinski is scheduled to play all of the xmen. and he will be appearing as kevin feige from now on. plus all the comic books will be tiny krasinski clones with his skin printed with the story.
Vultures costume change was absolutely for the better. The old man in spandex just looks stupid but the whole pilot look with the green eyes looks so awesome in the movie
Fox tried to dunk on the original X-Men costumes and triggered a million nerds including myself.
They isn't even an argument for them being more practical because they're so restrictive they can't even jump over a ledge. Black is fine as a primary color though. Also I don't even get why Wolverine couldn't at least be sleeveless like Collosus was.
What was even worse is when Marvel decided to make the comics costumes more like the movies in the early 2000s because they thought that was what the fans wanted 🤦🏻♂️

@@philcorrigan5641 I liked the movies, but when the comics rebooted yet again and aped the boring movie costumes, I stopped buying them and never started again.
A lot of hardcore comic book fans just kind of need to face the reality that a lot of the designs you loved in comics are kind of dogshit and would look horrible in real life. This has been one of the greatest strengths of the MCU to weed out this bullshit and streamline the process.
As a real Marvel comic book fan to death i agreed, thats why the 2012 Cap suit doesn't fit
I feel like Thor's helmet having real, feathery wings is something the DC live action series would've done. Just big, grad visual gestures at the expense of everything else.

@Latest Obsession I don’t think so. Most of the mcu is based on the 616. Most of the avengers stuff is based on the ultimate comics. Classic costumes are partical. People wear them in real life. Christopher Reeves wore spandex and looked great. Spandex and neon colors do work. You see them in most media right now.
The decades of comics history, with hundreds of artists making adjustments, and millions of fans letting their opinions be known, means these characters have the most intensely focus-grouped costumes imaginable. Every time the movies make a sincere attempt to be comics accurate, they end up with a great looking costume. That's why Deadpool is the most popular movie mutant. I hope Disney will give us accurate X-Men outfits going forward.

The people who didn't want to use his comics costume made a bad movie (X-Men Origins: Wolverine), but the people who wanted to use that costume made good movies (Deadpool and Deadpool 2), and this is not a coincidence. Only people who respect the source use comic accurate costumes, and respecting the source usually results in better movies.
It can be done. But Wolverine wears his earth tone brown and ocre suit. Blue and canary yellow don't look good on him.

I believe the MCU has continually dropped the ball on Spiderman villains. Green Goblin, Harry's Green Goblin, Electro, The Vulture, The Shocker, and especially Rhino just to name a few. But that definitely gets into the discussion of ridiculous looking costumes in a real world scenario
To answer the question, seeing Bucky in his original costume would be hilarious, just Sebastian Stan in a blue leotard with red tights and the standard black superhero mask. Maybe they’ll do it one day since so many other MCU heroes have had a moment making fun of their original costumes.
His Falcon and the Winter Soldier look had similar colors to his original outfit.
Funny how the movies really hate the secret identity stuff, it was such a staple of the early years of Marvel ( and who can forget how many years DC mined Clark/Superman and Lois ).
Surprised they didn't put Wolverine in here. I know it's focused on MCU but they did Blade.
I really don't want wolverine again in the X-Men MCU reboot. He's a great character and Hugh Jackman was a great casting but the fox series overused him so much. It would be better to focus on other X-Men characters the fox movies didn't do well like Cyclops, Rogue and Angel so we get an actual team movie
@@rorylynch7775 Well I'd like to see a new version of Wolverine but I agree that they should do a couple X-Men movies without him. Maybe have him show up in a couple of the other characters films first and build up to him joining the team.

In Jessica Jones they actually briefly showed her comic costume as Jewel but directly made fun of it because that costume is utterly ridiculous and wouldn't fit the atmosphere of the show (Especially not season 1)
TBF I feel like that’s the point of the Jewel costume and persona in general, that she was this bright and optimistic superhero who went through the worst trauma possible turning her into a dark and angry cynic
I hate that trope, it's almost insulting people who like the costume.

I hope we get to see Thor’s classic comic accurate look, with the winged helmet and everything, in a brief flashback sequence explaining Classic Loki’s origins in later eps of Loki. Maybe he came from a comic accurate Asgard as a whole
Hawkeye is both not enough of himself and yet just detached enough to look presentable. I prefer his 2015 run costume with the simple arrow shirt, pants, and boots combo.
Mysterio in Far From Home.
His final look without the holograms is just a mocap suit with a fishbowl on his head, it was a bit of a letdown considering i am a big fan of Mysterio.
He wears the suit for real sometimes though.

Hawkeye's getup in the comic was very justified, as he learned his abilities as a circus worker rather than as a SHIELD agent (this also explains why all his weapons were the nonlethal kind - as a performer, he wasn't supposed to stab his audience by mistake).
I don't know if this is common knowledge or what but I've always assumed that "Batroc, the leaper" is a case of Stan Lee's age showing: back in the day french people were called "frogs" by Americans and a frog is a BATRaCian. Also frogs are known for their jumping might. So this classic marvel character is basically an old man's quasi racist joke. 🤷
