Hi Jack, I ran into your channel when a week ago from today I decided to make a mini wood lathe because of various upcoming projects and saw your video from 7 years ago. Mine is a bit more complex, but essentially the same idea. One major difference is I salvaged and removed the motor from a cordless 18 volt drill rather than use an AC drill. The jury is out on whether I swap it out for a universal motor with attached speed control. The motor I used has plenty of torque, but seems a bit slow with respect to rpm. A bit of testing will indicate keep or swap. Thanks for the video none the less and you probably forgot you had made it since 7 years have passed.

Some interesting things created by your hands, I particularly noted the pencil sharpener you used to taper dowels (and the occasional pencil, I might add). The self centreing jig for the drill is brilliant. I'm a bit worried when I see fingers close to saw blades. I liked the dowel centre finder too. I hope to see you back in your workshop soon. I know that you have the same health problems as me, but I always try to pull myself together because sitting still and watching TV is not really my thing. PS: I copied your bed only that I made 8x8 inches on the sides and hew the corners a little with a chisel, painted antique colored so that it looks nice and bulky. maybe you like it too. please let me know
