    This is a great analysis! I'm always on the lookout for video game retrospective-type content, and this video has certainly delivered. You've taken the retrospective concept to a whole new level. This is almost like a walkthrough combined with an in-depth review. You've earned a subscriber, and I very much look forward to watching your other videos!
    As for XD specifically, I'm surprised at the lack of videos analyzing it. This is the first Pokemon game I completed, and it's near and dear to me. I recognize its flaws, but still respect its uniqueness within the Pokemon franchise, especially considering the relative lack of variety and experimentation employed in the main-line games.

      i'm also surprised at the lack of videos! this game's really entering the nostalgia sweet spot for a lot of people i feel, hopefully it gets some more retrospective attention, especially for such a unique game. happy to hear you liked the video ^_^

    The reason I think Eevee was incentivized to evolve so early was because if you look at its learnset the evolutions learn their first stab move at level 16 and don’t learn another until very late for some of the evolutions

    I think one of the reasons that I have such a problem with the mainline games isn't even the fact that they're bad but that the other off-shoots that are present within the series capitalise so much better on the concept of what Pokémon can be. They dedicate so many resources to making tons and tons of new characters, new regions, new Pokémon, new this, new that, when they could just take the existing pieces that already inhabit the world and twist or remix them.
    I loathe to see the day when there are no more 'Beat the 8 gyms' Pokémon games because that's what introduced me to the series but at this point they could really do with slowing down and not producing so many entrees in the mainline series. There are so many avenues to with which you can explore the world of Pokémon from, and invariably, the ones that I am attached to the most have nothing to do with the regular conception of Pokémon. I think collecting can be fun in its own right but Explorers of Sky and XD are far and away my favourite entrees in the series because of what they do with the concept.
    I'm fine with them adding more and more Pokémon, but at this point we have over 900 unique game pieces each with their own typing, their own movelist they learn, each can level to 100, each can learn TMs, many of them have evolutions, some with choice built in to decide how the Pokémon should grow. The list goes on and on, and instead of trying to add more and go upwards, Pokémon really should have been trying to go sideways, because with this many creatures you can do a lot more than just trainer vs trainer. I think things like Mega Evolutions, Alolan and Galarian Forms, and Shadow Pokémon are some of the franchise's best ideas because it takes the familiar and expands rather than just creating so many more new concepts that can sometimes fall flat. I actually like a lot of the new Pokémon designs but there's simply so many now that it's ridiculous.

    Oh my god this game brings back memories. I wish the Shadow Pokemon games got refined over time. There was potential here to make some of the best games in the series. I have no clue why they stopped on the GameCube.

      totally agree, there's so much potential and room for growth here but instead genius sonority was made to pump out what was essentially another stadium game :/

      I'm not really sure. I've never played it and so don't have the nostalgia i do for this game, but who knows, maybe one day ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

      @Nafan__ I’d recommend playing it! XD is essentially the sequel, so many of the locations, groups and mechanics you discussed are in Colosseum. You also play as an ex-Snagem agent. Equally fantastic music too!

    4:40 Usually the battery dying wasn't a problem for GBA games, as they most often used a different chip type for saves than Game Boy and Game Boy Color. The battery was only used for the real-time-clock.
    That however is not an official Ruby cartridge, but a counterfeight one, as you can see from it not being a translucent cartridge and the sticker not being of high quality.
    (I'm sure you know by now, but you didn't mention that in the video, so I wanted to add that little tidbit of info in case you didn't.)

      @Nafan__  Год назад +1

      holy shit i didn't actually know that, that explains so much! I bought that copy of Ruby off ebay when i was very young, it was like one of the first things i bought with my own money. at the time i wouldn't of even known fake carts were a thing, it honestly never crossed my mind, so thank you for mentioning that! It's cool to learn something new about something i bought like 20 years ago at this point :)

      There's actually videos on how to spot fake carts, but fakers have been getting better with it over the years, sadly! =/
