- Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin holds his first press conference since he was hospitalized over complications from a procedure to treat prostate cancer. My father had prostate cancer. It was a while before he told others in the family other than his wife. As hard as this hits black men, we tend not to want to talk about it because to a lot of us it makes you sound weak. People treat you differently in our community when it becomes known. Folks tend to want to bury you, and you may not even be close to dying.
A lot of black men won't go get tested, because we are afraid to know.
I've only been tested once, and even I am afraid to test again. So yes I can see were he may have wanted to keep this under wraps. Should he have said something about it? Yes he should have. But I get why he did what he did.

His mental and physical ability to make some of the most important decisions this country makes - absolutely IS our right to know. And the President had a right to know.
I admire this man for his courage to stand up there, as an adult should, and take responsibility for his actions, and not only promise to do better, but was able to list steps he's taken to ensure it does not reoccur.
That is what an adult does. What a leader does. Name one politician or CEO who has given such an honest apology?

Must have been absent during the basic training class on the Chain of Command and its importance for up and down communication.

As a combat Veteran that served honorably, I have no doubts that if I, one of my superiors or subordinates, had done the same as SECDEF, we'd all be up on charges. SECDEF should have been fired after the disastrous execution of the Afghanistan withdrawal. Expect more failures from this clown in the near future.
