Seeing the final scene made me think of Lampwick from Pinocchio when he transforms into a donkey, showing his shadow while he screams for his mother, gives the scene an uncomfortable chill down your spine. Like this scene, the shadow effect makes the scene more dramatic and chilling
I think is more emotional and dramatic the final scene, Disney and his artists probably considered that this short violence sequence works better if just show shadows, colours and the music. Mickey has now a good image, it not necessary shows how a loved character has an agressive response, I think so.
I do think that the end product is a little better. Not for any reasons of on screen violence (I hardly think kids will be traumatized by a broom being chopped up), but it is much more dramatic seeing the shadows rather than the scene itself. As a previous comment said, it's alot more dramatic when left to the audience's imaginations.
@lmfislb Actually in the bluray they stated that they did think of using Dopey as the sorcerer's apprentice but decided to give the role to Mickey since they wanted to boost his popularity since he was the mascot and it made a bit more sense to include him in Fantasia.
That was so fucking cool! Not the fact that the scene was changed. I don't care about that. It was just cool too see the rough drawings of Mickey Mouse throwing his little tantrum. When I think that it was just pencil on paper, it amazes me. I wish I could draw like that.
It's genius how the scene continuously changes from colour to grey, then back and forth again. I love it. Pure genious.
