Thanks for the tips! I lied my way into a bartending job I’m completely unqualified for and now I have 3 days to learn everything there is about bartending! 😆
Go for it, You're going to love it once you are behind the bar. Have fun with memorizing recipes and work on your physical skills when it is slow at the bar. You'll do great.
A Bar Above I recently applied to work at this one bar, I really was dying to work there, wrote a nice little cover letter for them and everything and they got back to me saying "We don't care that you don't have experience so long as you have the attitude and enthusiasm, which you got!" Basically, and I got an interview and they seemed to love me when I went, they told me when I'd be working and who I was gonna train with and they just made it look like I HAD the job, I was so excited but then about a week later they emailed me saying that I didn't get the job due to my lack of experience and they said they were happy to give me some feedback and tips, to which I happily accepted but it's been another 2 weeks and they never gave me any of that. So now I'm sad and don't have a clue how to start haha..!
You are already off to a great start, keep going down your list of bars that you want to work at and eventually you'll find a spot. You may want to (politely) keep in touch with the bar you interviewed with as well, even if its just stopping in for a drink from time to time. You never know what could happen. I know it's extremely difficult to find bartender candidates in the Bay Area. Good luck
What a great video, I've been a "turn and burn " club style bartender but I'm the last two and a half years have been getting into classic cocktails and craft bartending. Definitely agree with respect of those around you and having knowledge of your product, along with great relationships of those in the hospitality network. I will certainly check out the the United bartenders guild, hopefully there's one in Los Angeles. Thanks for the tips!. This motivates me to get involved in programs like ' bar smarts'. Cheers!
Just got my first bartending job at cinemark movie theater. Yes I was surprised that a movie theater has a bar too 😂. I start my first day in fifteen minutes . Wish me luck guys !:)
Clubs are one thing... its probably impossible but otherwise we really need to bring the "corner bar" back. I hate going to larger bars because almost always I get a drink thrown in my face while the bartender is taking the next order and has his or her hand out to take my money.
Hi. I just started working at the bar area of a restaurant i work at. I'm only 19 (legal drinking age where i live is 18) and I'm really excited for this new line of work. Thank you for your advice
I work at a casino, as a house keeper or janitor. Now after realising that I'm working at a place to potentially transfer out and do some that makes money and enter act with guess? Yes, I'm gonna try bartending.
There's certainly a shortage of hospitality among the new crop of bartenders. I've seen countless young bartenders merely dish out the drinks with zero personality. Some even come off a bit annoyed that they have to pull themselves away from their damn phones.
His comments are all great. What he ment that with out your patrins you wouldn't make money to pay your bill. Not that there going to go pay your bill to whom ever you owe money. Its important not to be on the phone. Your personality is very important on how much money you make for yourself and the establishment you work for. Make it fun . Your the star. Its show time.
Guys i'm really nervous. I recently applied for a job at a hotel as a laundry attendant but the interviewer said my personality was to vribrant and cheerful to be wasted on something dumb like that so he's making me a bartender. I'm only 18 (which is the legal drinking age where I live) and I have a *really* low tolerance for alcohol I'm also horrible with learning people's names and idk if I can take the long hours (I have bad back pains) But i'm also really excited to try something new and I think it's really exciting. I start training in 4 days and I'm just as excited as I am terrified. :D
Starting my bartending job soon, kinda nervous because I've always been told of being clumsy and weak. Trying to learn as much as possible about the job before I start!
Because you will be expected to move quickly, lift heavy cases from time to time, getting cuts from broken glass is not uncommon, and you are constantly bending over an ice well to create cocktails. Your knees, backs and wrists will be sore until you build up your muscles/ stamina to get through a shift. On the emotional side there are so many things that you have to worry about, but this is a high pace environment and as you get busier, its natural that your anxiety level begins to climb as well. This can happen every day behind the bar and one of the easiest ways to unwind is to drink after your shift. It's easy to get caught up in making unhealthy choices as a way of blowing off steam. The emotional side can be just as hard if not harder than the physical side. Got to take care of yourself if you want to do this type of work :)
i don't understand everything cuz i speack portuguese but i have 21 and im a girl... i was thinking about become a bartender cuz i like drinks and stuff... i also like the bar places...have a lot of style and stuff like tat it's really nice... but i dunno how it is as being a bartender girl...and im a bit tall...plz if someone can respond i would be happy
I've been a bartender for 2 weeks now and I'm already bored with making simple drinks. Any advice on how to convince my manager to let me make drink specials like they do daily with food? And then where should I start?
I hope it's not too late, but I would make some samples for each day or like a random set for these drinks and then continue to introduce drinks to keep the menu fresh
Customers don't pay my bills!!! I pay them!!! Never has a customer come to me and said, dude... Lemme pay your rent this month... I always have to do the paying!!!!
As many as you can, but concentrate on learning cocktail families and you can apply the formulas in many different ways. IE Sour = spirit + Sour + sweet. Whiskey sour is Whiskey + lemon + Simple syrup, Daiquiri = Rum + lime juice + Simple syrup, etc
Thanks for the tips! I lied my way into a bartending job I’m completely unqualified for and now I have 3 days to learn everything there is about bartending! 😆
How do you think we all got started
Any good conversation starters? Sometimes I freeze after awhile and it gets awkward lol

Becoming a bartender is my dream, I'm so nervous about how I'm gonna go about memorising every single drink

Congratulations and have a great time behind the bar. More importantly make sure your regulars have a great time at your bar :)

There's certainly a shortage of hospitality among the new crop of bartenders. I've seen countless young bartenders merely dish out the drinks with zero personality. Some even come off a bit annoyed that they have to pull themselves away from their damn phones.
then you probably work at a nice place
Great advice. Thanks ever so much for posting.

would you recommend getting certified if someone has no experience? or what would be the best way to learn.
there isn't a certification. you could attend a bartending school/class and get a certificate. you do need a servsafe certification to work.
Bar back
Is it possible to be a bartender as a person who does not drink any alcohol?
Thanks for the information. Excited and looking forward to my new career.

I've been a bartender for 2 weeks now and I'm already bored with making simple drinks. Any advice on how to convince my manager to let me make drink specials like they do daily with food? And then where should I start?
Jeff Sherman try to pair those food specials with some cocktails that you can come up with.
I hope it's not too late, but I would make some samples for each day or like a random set for these drinks and then continue to introduce drinks to keep the menu fresh
Awesome , Chris!
Rita Doyle Thought you would like this video Rita :)
Customers don't pay my bills!!! I pay them!!! Never has a customer come to me and said, dude... Lemme pay your rent this month... I always have to do the paying!!!!
Whats the ideal number of cocktails you need to learn before trying out as a bartender?
As many as you can, but concentrate on learning cocktail families and you can apply the formulas in many different ways. IE Sour = spirit + Sour + sweet. Whiskey sour is Whiskey + lemon + Simple syrup, Daiquiri = Rum + lime juice + Simple syrup, etc
