The old manager at the charity shop near me used to have set prices for everything. £2 tees, £3 shirts, £5 hoodies, and £7 coats. It didn't matter what brand, they just set prices for everything, and they did so well that he got promoted to run a bigger store. Very quick turnaround, always new stuff out daily. A new manager comes in and sets prices for everything. £10 Ralph Lauren tees, £20 Superdry coats, ect. prices were too high, and the stock never changed. A year later, the shop shut down, and it was not making enough money....
This is happening at one of my local shops right now. One already closed down. At the second one, the manager keeps learning about how to 'better price stuff' and whenever he is on duty (most days) there is nothing good in the shop. Just keeps adding some worthless , massively overpriced, often damaged leftover junk. He tries to sell one bar of Dove soap for a quid:> I wonder how long before they close down. At this stage, I am so fed up with looking at their tr@sh that I may actually feel better when they finally close the circus down.
Charity shops are run like businesses now, I used to go to them 2-3 times a week, now I only go to them once every 3-4 weeks. They have a backlogs stock that they can't put out on the floor because nothing is shifting because their prices are too high and they throw away a lot of perfectly good items because they have no space. They'd rather overprice something and let it sit on the shelves for 6 months than keep stock flowing, allowing them to would most likely make more money. I remember being at a charity shop and someone came in with donations, they told the person they had been refusing donations all day because they don't have any more room in the back, I was there thinking "well stop pricing everything so dam high then you'll have room".
Tell them, I told one snooty manageress, and she went some long winded point to justify it.... Then she said we are a charity after all... Trying to guilt me in to accepting the extortionate prices,... I said I suppose when you get your wages, you must give a couple of hundred back, I mean you wouldn't want to take from a charity. (she was one of the paid manageress hoyty toyty types)
LOL I literally told a lady in a Oxfam bookstore the other day that the books were so tightly packed on the shelves that it made browsing a challenge, and perhaps they could take 2-3 off each shelf. I was told they have to put them like that because there's SO MUCH STOCK OUT BACK WITH NOWHERE TO GO. They are pricing lots of the books at £5, £8, £10 and up. Sheer madness and pure greed.
They obviously not wanting to raise money for charity just to feed the bosses pockets. Alot of books ain't even that price brand new. I can see the libraries making a comeback if it's like that as they are pricing out everyone. They will suffer not us
As a reseller I have spent £1000's. They have become so expensive that i generally use car boots or What Not for stock now and very rarely buy stock from a charity shop anymore because they are too expensive or the condition is awful. Another thing they dont consider when pricing something. I feel for the poor ppl who also cant afford to shop in these places anymore. Even kids stuff isnt cheap anymore 😢. They constantly turn down donations because they dont have stock room due to not turning it over due to the prices. Makes no sense when everything they get is free.

My friend donated that to Cannock shop. One charity shop spent 2 pounds and asked me if they could keep the change from my 20 pound note to donate.I heard charity shops are asking if they can keep your change NOW

I feel sorry for you. You ever been around Litchfield and the surrounding areas.
The prices have increased massively over the past 6 months or so, I used to do really well out of those 3 shops alone, not anymore. Lichfield is much better than Cannock but again, seem to be getting borderline ridiculous with the pricing
Atleast you've got a good car boot next to you
Great to meet you yesterday Jon at the boot sale, sorry Cannock didn't perform for you. One of those reseller days....a great day is always around the corner, such is the roller coaster of reselling! I'm sitting in a lake of Lego with my head in my hands 😂
Nice to meet you. Have you found anything good in the lego?
@JonSheppardsells it's mainly Ninjago, City & Marvel - approx 60 mini figs, a random Nintendo DS Mario game , and of course the obligatory handful of crayons ! Should do OK 👍
@harveysmith1451 looks god then should triple your money then
£12 jesus christ had me laughing 😂
I'm still recovering from the prices
I thought the charity shops business model is to raise money for the disadvantaged...not selling to the disadvantaged?
Nobody will buy any of that
Wouldn't it be better to serve both? Wouldn't it be great if a homeless person could get a coat for very little money or free from the charity shops in the winter than not?
@@donnajones2468 I'm sure they can still. The charity shops are probably only raising the prices of the name brands. A homeless person would be grateful for any coat no doubt 🙏
@g.m.5412 they aren't though. Even the cheaper brands like Primark can be silly money sometimes. Really doesn't help the poor ppl in society 😕.
@@donnajones2468 yes that is ridiculous to price the "fast" fashion expensively 😳😓
I’ve got to know the manager in a chazza by me she has to take £3000 per week if she doesn’t her boss is on her
They never make that I think she's pulling your leg there
Can I ask how do you know
I speak to several managers and a good day is making a few hundred quid
And I speak to several managers myself. I know her wage is £27k and she took £750 on Saturday I usually spend £100 pw with her and lets me have first dips on stock and I know other resellers use the shop also. Another plus point their prices are good and reasonable so buyers will spend before you ask it’s based in the NE and I was born in Cannock if you think there bad try and look at the prices in penkridge lol
@Dirlewanger44 I won't be going again
I always say that but charty shops not like that anymore they make money for the charty there doing ebay theses days so bad there prices
Tbf the gameboy was a decent price and in great condition.
Can get it cheaper off a boot sale or ebay
I’ve personally found a few good bits in Cannock. All the shops there are worth popping into in my opinion apart from that new Mind. The prices in there are fucking insane. Mind are easily one of the most extortionate charity shops out there.
I found exactly the same at Cannock overpriced tat
It’s outrageous these charity shops are ripping people off the items are free donations given. Now for god sake. Sell the items at affordable prices that people can buy.
Charity shop in my area selling North face joggers ripped for 25 I lol so much
😡😡
Cracking me up 😂😂😂
I think JD sports was cheaper 😂😂
Charity shops aren’t there to help people they’re there to make money for their charity
stop judging people at the car boot
My channel I say what I want as it is sad, my opinion as doing that causes fights and people steal stuff
After visiting Cannock you now need to add an ‘M’ into the last part of your YT name.
Why is that?
Well we can kick off even more: > The truth is the charities are our main competition online. They get stuff for nothing and get people to list these items for nothing(volunteers). I used to sell much more when charities did not have Ebay stores...
Charity shops are terrible now. Often more expensive than buying on ebay or cex. Why bother going in, cut the journey out and buy it online lol. They are daft, they will all close down in the coming months / years at this rate.
Its not about helping people theses days u just help there charty so bad the prices on things
Your right only about 27% get to the charity
Yep they are con artists only the independent ones seem to donate more. I use to know someone who worked for one and worked in the offices. All the ceos are on 150 to 250k a year
If you know it’s expensive then why waste time and fuel? Just spend a bit more on fuel and find better area.
Did you actually listen at the car boot bit? 😂
@@JonSheppardsellsyeah I get that but you are also not far away from a lot of places there? I get the frustration of the cost of some places but once you know they expensive 99% of the time it’s not worth it.
totally agree john regarding charity shops .they should be charitable both ways.some of these are too corporate ie cancer research heart foundation.i think there should be more regulation as i think fat cats are making money somewhere
😅 you make it look hard work 🥵
What you mean?
@@JonSheppardsells just that you didn't have a great day, everything seemed to upset/annoy you. Should be a pleasure to go sourcing and check out the goodies, not make you feel so cross
@alievans7988 oh I wasn't cross as doesn't effect me
The prices are getting like ridiculous
In my opinion Sue Ryder is and always will be the best Charity Shop in Cannock. I am a regular donator and buyer. If i think something is overpriced I will say something and the staff there are more than happy to do a deal if they agree. The staff and the Manager are very flexible. I only buy things for myself or friends and never to sell on. You are always going to want something at a rock bottom price if you are trying to profit from it. Actually filming the shop whilst going around slating it is disgusting.
So if your not a reseller why are you watching. I'm slating it as alot of the prices were way overpriced
@@JonSheppardsells Jon just ask the manager she is very open to offers but please don't slate Sue Ryder Cannock they do a fantastic job and work very hard for a good charity. I am watching because you popped up on my feed I am allowed to be interested.
@joannebuttery3340 I don't bother asking when everything is overpriced, it's was all of them.
Love the ranting keep it up charity rip off
Are you not just better off sniping on vinted and let these sad pathetic charity shops go under?
Car boots. They know nothing about vinted stuff though
But u went in a charity shop to buy cheap stuff to re sell and ur complaining about rubbish wen ur just going in there just to re sell the stuff for profit and taking it of the charity who's the mug get ur morals right
Obviously don't understand Ebay and reselling it's a global market
A charity shop whose ceos get paid hundreds of thousands of pounds.
So I have no sympathy for them.
@JonSheppardsells I don't understand all u have to do is open ur eyes . But still u don't give a shit about others. other wise u wouldn't be in the charity shop taking there shit to resell good tht they put prices up stops people like u going in there and taking them for mugs . Have some morals and some respect
It's for charity not for you to profit so tuff luck
Ceo pockets you mean
What % goes to charity I have given and Purchased from there shops is it really the ceo who profits
Hi mate if you think your charity shops are expensive come to the Highlands in Scotland then you would have a real rant
Why what's the prices up there
Hi Jon back in the UK I was a eBay seller for years moving to Scotland two years ago that all stopped were I live they have a car boot about three times a year there are quite a few charity shops most of the stuff is tat anything good is priced just under retail prices and sometimes dearer there is a auction once a month but you have to bid online but you can never get anything because of the crazy prices how I miss the uk
@andrewarnst9673 I guess they find it harder to get stuff up there
