    "If trees had hearts like men do,
    they would not be so green with life."
    Just brilliance here.

    The translation is in the description:
    When winds breathed slowly
    and carried cotton blossom drifts
    floating from the willow strands,
    there in the fragrant willowshade,
    we rested in green depths.
    Sailing round faraway beaches,
    sailing as evening falls;
    in this total disorder
    of aimless sailing,
    where can I make land?
    I've met my share of mankind,
    but none are like the willows by that
    gate of departure. None remain.
    If trees had hearts like men do,
    they would not be so green with life.
    Night comes on, your high city disappears,
    There's only the tangle of endless mountains.
    Like Wei Lang, I've left you-
    But remember; this bracelet of jade;
    believe this promise that we've made
    When I left, you begged me "Soon return!"
    For fear we'd leave the red flowers loveless.
    And I didn't take your pair of scissors with me,
    but if I had, I still couldn't cut
    these thousand binding, silken threads
    of melancholy exile.

    A try:
    The wind gradually blows up the fragrant willow catkins.
    Houses are now shaded with fresh green.
    The river curves into the distance dotted with sails.
    The dusk is growing, and where are the boats bound?
    At the port, the willows have seen too many partings.
    They must be indifferent, or how could they be so green?
    I try to see the town I depart from, but in the diminishing light,
    There are only disorderly mountains.
    Though I am going, but back I will be to reunite with you,
    So that the beautiful red flower has its master.
    Alas, even though I had the best scissors,
    It could not cut off my thousands of threads of sorrow.

    I am very-very glad that taoist taste and Shi values are combined and alive - China motherland has many masters of guqin, but singing is very rare, guqins are with metal strings, official concerts are performed technically without stillness in the heart, all is glittering, colourful, external and quite tasteless. Here I can hear, see and feel real ancient spirit, it is rare - small orchid with faint but superb smell amongst screaming vulgar colours of flowers without any smell.

    I love the sound of this guqin, they usually don't have that much power and depth... Is it because the strings are made of silk? Absolutely mesmerising performance.

      You are very observant. I think it's because Mr Yuan has some martial art practice, hence has much better control over finger and arm strength. That was the first thing I noticed when I first met Mr Yuan, his music is full volumed but not loud, it penetrates without being harsh. Silk string is usually softer to the listener than a metal string, but Mr Yuan is able to project its resonance across a room, usually without any additional speaker.

      @@henryshoots ooh, I see, thank you for the detailed information and more background insight! It is truly incredible how the instrument sings under Mr Yuans fingers. I can hear every single note he plays, which is rarely the case with guqin. Outstanding artist.

    长亭怨慢·渐吹尽
    [宋]
    姜夔
    余颇喜自制曲。初率意为长短句,然后协以律,故前后阕多不同。桓大司马云:“昔年种柳,依依汉南。今看摇落,凄怆江潭:树犹如此,人何以堪?”此语余深爱之。
      渐吹尽,枝头香絮,是处人家,绿深门户。远浦萦回,暮帆零乱向何许?阅人多矣,谁得似长亭树?树若有情时,不会得青青如此!日暮,望高城不见,只见乱山无数。韦郎去也,怎忘得、玉环分付:第一是早早归来,怕红萼无人为主。算空有并刀,难剪离愁千缕。

    This is the most beautiful melody I´ve heard in Guquin. I don´t know if the melody is a traditional one or composed by him, but it has some special intervals that aren´t heard much in guqin music. Almost all chinese music is about pentatonic, but this guy gives some new colors and tones, even some minor chords are heard now and then. Beautiful!

    • @henryshoots
      @henryshoots  9 лет назад +6

      Eduardo Ornelas the original melody is an old tune, but he added a lot of flavors to it. Mr Yuan used to be a country folk singer in Taiwan a few decades ago, so he is well versed in composition.

    I felt in love with this video and listened this and also other Mr. Yuan's videos almost half of the day. I have listened other guqin players before, but probably I never had so peacefull mind to be able to enjoy it. But now I think that this man helped to open my ears, with his gentle skilled playing and calming voice and I am able to feel and understand this music different way than I did before. :-) Thank you for this.

    Thought I'd look through some Eastern styles of music; it's very interesting. The way the songs are composed are vastly different than what the western world would compose them as. This seems more original and natural, I'm lovin it.

      Chinese culture is not a national culture but a Chinese civilization juxtaposed with both Christian and Islamic civilizations and a more ancient civilization. At the same time, it is totally different from the two previous religious civilizations. The core of Chinese civilization is "Taoism," "Confucianism," and "Taoism" is in harmony with nature. "Confucianism" is the pursuit of personal accomplishment and effectiveness for the country.
