Iron - Woodkid | Dayna Huor Choreography

This was my first time sharing my own choreography with the SoCal dance community...I was in awe just seeing how incredibly talented all of my teammates are, and to receive love and support back from these people had me feeling overwhelmed but in the best way. I am always doubting myself, but this time I decided to trust in myself anyway and commit to the concept and choreography I came up with for this project.
I wanted to portray my experience with anxiety. I had been wanting to choreograph to this song for years actually, but when I came back to it this year, I was feeling really anxious. Everything about the song made me think of how this emotion feels…the dread, that tight feeling in your chest, the fear that can lead you astray from being your genuine self, trying to fight the feeling, but ultimately (trying to) accept it as an experience of life and being kind to yourself as you work towards healing. I also wanted to incorporate my essence as a martial artist into the choreography and performance, because I honestly have tried to keep that separate from my presence as a dancer for so long, but ultimately it is a part of who I am. This piece was about owning all of these things and showing these parts of me.
Thank you GRV for always providing us opportunities to grow in many different ways. I have already learned so much in the past few months and I can’t wait to see where this journey takes me. And a big thank you to these lovely ladies, Ashley and Miriya for performing this piece with me. I was so unsure of myself, not having taught a piece to friends in a while but you two were so supportive and made the process enjoyable. You are both so talented and the sweetest!
