    I flew a Benson gyro back in 1973(?) when it was essentially a cut up bed frame and a chainsaw motor. Good times.

    how good is flying one of these things for STOL/short field adventure flying? I've been looking at getting something like a CH750 STOL so I can go into backcountry strips, but would a gyro like this perform as well as a CH750 or Kitfox? I'm fine with losing some cruise speed, but I'd love to make up for it with the insane short-field I've seen with some of these gyro's.

    • @ToyManFlyer1100
      @ToyManFlyer1100 5 лет назад +2

      Most gyros are built for smooth fields and such...You prolly wanna do "back-counrty and gravel bar landings"....w/ Tundra tires....Gyros arent meant for that sorta landing and taking off...You can land, but, you need a good "runnin' start " to get airborne......Stick w/ the Bush plane....

    • @ToyManFlyer1100
      @ToyManFlyer1100 5 лет назад +3

      Only "Back-country" vid I found and it aint what you are talkin' 'bout......Also, since most gyros are nose-wheeled mounted, you would have to really "beef-up" that nose wheel strut to take them big rocks and stuff.....And, grros dont have slats and flaps, so..Its all in the rotor for lift and that rotor gota have some seriuos air hitting it to get that lift....
      You thoe' the "coals to your bush plane w/ slats and flaps, you off and up in bout 10-15 ft....Gyros need at least 2 to 3 times and if you gota load, well, it can double even that.....Now, a Heli can do all you want, but, thats a whole different animal..and certifications....To get a feel of gyros, watch a few of Gerald's vids...You can gage what they do.....and dont do....

    Personally would prefer less music and more gyro noise, but lets get to the meat. Regarding gyro videos, your camera work was without doubt some of the best on youtube 👍 Many RUclipsrs could take a leaf out of your book and use a gimbal 👍. Shaky footage is not what the end user wants to view. Btw, you also get a thumbs up for the editing 👍

Look it up, and compare its performance with a Cessna 150/152 which uses the same 100hp engine. You will be amazed by the difference!

    I wish someone had kept a record of the hundreds of people who have died in these things, which includes Jaques Casteau's son.

      Uh, NO. He died in the crash {on water} of a PBY Catalina.
      If you're going to spit out statistics, *get them right!*

      Look at the statistics in car wrecks and you’ll never want to get in a car, a proficient skill set at flying and intact controls will normally produce a safe emergency landing

      @@GyroGerald Are you afraid of someone listing the pros and cons of owning a gyrocopter?!

    • @GyroGerald
      @GyroGerald  4 года назад +1

      Deadstick not afraid of pros and cons of something, but there are haters out there who use foul language and ugly remarks that I don’t care to see on occasion. Otherwise I don’t fault someone’s opinion of something but we all know what opinions are like.

      Wrong, they're actually the safest form of air travel. They can't stall like a plane, and are in auto rotation unlike a helicopter. You can shut the engine off and easily land. Try that in a Cessna or a Bell helicopter. You'd be in the morgue.
      I love flying these aircraft.
