how good is flying one of these things for STOL/short field adventure flying? I've been looking at getting something like a CH750 STOL so I can go into backcountry strips, but would a gyro like this perform as well as a CH750 or Kitfox? I'm fine with losing some cruise speed, but I'd love to make up for it with the insane short-field I've seen with some of these gyro's.
Most gyros are built for smooth fields and such...You prolly wanna do "back-counrty and gravel bar landings"....w/ Tundra tires....Gyros arent meant for that sorta landing and taking off...You can land, but, you need a good "runnin' start " to get airborne......Stick w/ the Bush plane....
Only "Back-country" vid I found and it aint what you are talkin' 'bout......Also, since most gyros are nose-wheeled mounted, you would have to really "beef-up" that nose wheel strut to take them big rocks and stuff.....And, grros dont have slats and flaps, so..Its all in the rotor for lift and that rotor gota have some seriuos air hitting it to get that lift.... You thoe' the "coals to your bush plane w/ slats and flaps, you off and up in bout 10-15 ft....Gyros need at least 2 to 3 times and if you gota load, well, it can double even that.....Now, a Heli can do all you want, but, thats a whole different animal..and certifications....To get a feel of gyros, watch a few of Gerald's vids...You can gage what they do.....and dont do....
That’s cool do you have any pictures of his place from back then? I’m not sure how event started in Florida but they probably used his name because of his influence on Gyroplanes in general
