Just had a tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy on Wednesday and I’m on day 2, it’s painful but as long as I take the pain killers, keep up with my eating to knock the scabs off and drink plenty of fluids it’s doable, for anyone going through this too, just power through and think in a few weeks it’ll all be over and healed and you will never have tonsillitis again! Thank you for making this video, great tips and I keep referring to them when I need to! ❤️❤️❤️
Hi there.. I’m 43 and scared to do tonsillectomy although I need it desperately coz I’m having tonsils stones for past 2years.. I’m terrified of recovery.. could u plz guide 🙏🏻.. u hv sounded very positive.. wud like to know wot age u got it done n the mode of your surgery.. plz do replyyy🙏🏻
@@ranjanashukla3046 Hi! I had my tonsillectomy when I was 19, after having tonsillitis 8 times in a year, the process of the actual surgery is very quick, just keep thinking about a healthy life without having to go through such a tiring health problem so frequently! Once the surgery is done, the medication still hadn't worn off which gives you a sense of it not being too painful but it does wear off so enjoy your food at that point, I'd say the first 4 days were the most painful but its really important you keep eating, toast and abrasive foods are best cause you have to keep the throat clear and not scabbed up, even when its unbearable, if the scabs aren't breaking off then it can build up and cause a bleed which you really don't want! take lots of painkillers, I was on codeine as well as ibuprofen and paracetamol which eased the pain, also drinking lots of fluids is really important and helpful, overall its just something you have to really do to be healthy and you will look back on it and your life will be happier without the tonsills! Stay strong and positive, hope this helps! Xx
Also forgot to mention getting some kind of cooling ice pack for your neck! That really helped me as you get glandular aching as well, it eases it all a little!
@@123456smileyface thank you so much for responding 🙏🏻🙏🏻..I am so puzzled as to whether get it done o not .I’m not getting tonsillitis now since I hv started taking batras homep medication which is treating the infection part well .however at times I get discomfort.. the tonsil stones are being formed as usual and I hv to clean them once in 10 days whereas earlier it was once in 3/4 days .. so it’s tough to decide on because idk if I’ll be opening a can of worms
I am currently on day 6 and today is by far my worst day! I'm getting a lot of ear pain too which is normal, I hope to get better Sonoma still waiting for my scabs to fall off but honestly everyone will experience it differently! To anyone going through this or is going to get it done, do not worry! You will be fine, I was scared and nervous but I did it so if I can do it then so can you!💗
I am on day 10 now, still in quite a lot of pain. Days 1 through 4 for me were quite normal, much like having tonsillitis. Days 5 to current were/are hell, I've never experienced pain like this and I cannot wait to feel normal again. Thanks for the informative video :)
Toast is the answer . And drink something like Coca Cola obviously a lot of water . But Coca Cola helped coat throat. Reduced pain a lot night that I just drank water . And throat wasted coated was agony .
I'm getting my tonsils out on May 15. I'm really intimidated by the pain and nervous for the recovery process. This video was helpful because I felt like you were honest, but it didn't scare me like some of the other videos I've seen!
mine went really well but it really hurt on day 3 and I felt really sick , I felt trapped like I couldn' t breath but something that helped was sitting outside and doing something relaxing also just making sure you hqve all your medicine and if you have to wake up and take some and have some in the night
I'm day 8 after my surgery not much of an appetite but I'm healing slowly but surely ! you will have neck, ear and maybe jaw pain it is completely normal. I'm 13 and so far this is the most time consuming thing ever. and I do suggest putting ice on hurting areas before bed so you don't wake up in pain.
Hi how was your experience?? I’m 43 suffer from tonsil stones for past 2years and need tonsillectomy desp but terrified of recovery at this age ? Plz suggest
Just got my tonsils out and I'm on Day 5... it's been a roller coaster so far..... The last time I got tonsillitis I thought I was going to die honestly I didn't think I was going to make it. I had a very high fever, sore neck, migraines, super infected tonsils with white pus and I couldn't swallow at all, it was even hard to breathe. After that experience I knew I needed mine out! I'm glad I came across this video because it's helping me stay positive... those of you who have had tonsillectomy, you know that nasty taste in your mouth, well that's the only thing giving me issues right now because my stomach is weak already due to pain meds but the taste makes me nauseous... the pain is moderate but it's the worst when you wake up from a nap or sleep.. stay hydrated and cold things are my everything right now!
I’m on Day 5 and in agony. I can relate to what your saying so much. I’m taking dihydrocodeine every 6 hours. It onmokeeps tge psin at bat for two hours. I can’t talk, It’s so painful. My doc told me to eat a crunchy diet like crisps and biscuits but it hurts too much so I’ve had porridge with honey today but only a few spoonfuls and yesterday avocado and scrambled egg. I’m eating very little just to avoid sickness from the medication. Love and prayers to whoever is healing from this. ♥️🕊🙏🏻
I'm day 5 after surgery and I have to say it's absolutely horrible I can't sleep trouble eating and i can actually feel the scabs at the back of my throat regretting ever doing it. When will the pain ease up?x
it's been 2 weeks since having the op. I definitly feel much better I felt somewhat ok on day 10 so hang in there and eat I never not ate I couldn't stop eating I felt relief when I ate and lots of cold ice water the best thing!c
i had 3 very bad cases of tonsillitis prior to having them removed. I honestly did not get affected much by the pain from the tonsillectomy, I was so accustomed to the pain that it barely hurt. I havent even taken my pain meds. Tonsillitis is definitely worse
I'm 12 and on day 5 of my tonsillectomy recovery and I haven't eaten for the past 3 days because of the pain. Even water feels like molten hot lava. I keep getting given Cal pol and ibuprofen but it doesn't do anything. The doctors said I should eat toast and things like that but I physically can't. Has anyone got any tips?
I'm on day five post-op. I've cried on a few occasions and am not ashamed to admit that ice packs have probably become my best friend. Stay up on your meds, take bigger gulps than tiny sips. It incredibly painful so I'm hoping the results are worth it
I got my tonsils out at 8:40ish this morning and it is now 9:33 at night and I’m in so much pain I’m 14 and I am definitely not babying it but it hurts
Thanks this has helped me a lot i was worried with what i found on the internet. Im due to have mine removed in 3 days so hopefully my recovery goes as well as yours did :)
Currently on day 3-4, about to be on day 5. Had a 3-4 case of tonsillitis due to an untreated strep throat. Anyway, the biggest annoyance so far has been the pain when swallowing and the annoying fever that accompanies the recovery for about a week. Other than that, the codeine really helps.

On my day 7all what I would say is that is painfully and one need to be strong and drink enough water plus the pain killer for healing and recovering process.
Good advice I’m on day 5 after opp and I’m 35 everything went ok the doc did say his never seen tonsils like mine they were split in 4 and bled a lot during opp but the first 3 days were ok was eating bit day 4 now 5 is hard so the hard part starts now I guess
I just had mine 4 days ago and I feel fine. Al I’m taking is Tylenol and ibprofin. +RockandGlitter (Alison) thank you . i also get really dizzy and feeling like passing out ..i been taking norco and not of food and water is day 9 now. i have lost about 10 lbs
Thanks so much for posting this! Very informative. I'm actually getting surgery soon, too. I am wondering if you could explain more about what it was like to get put to sleep? This is the part that FREAKS me OUT!! Like, what does it feel like? How do they do it? What does it feel like when they put the stuff in, like do you get sleepy or is more like wide awake to instantly out? Could you have stayed awake if you would have tried or is it impossible? Haha. Basically whatever you remember about that part would be helpful. Thanks so much!
+xcalabur18 Hey, you're welcome. Don't worry, that's the part that freaked me out. All I remember is I went into a room and they were doing all the necessary checks and then the anaesthesiologist put the 'sleepy' stuff as she called it into my arm and I looked at the clock, fell asleep and before I knew it I was awake again. It just feels like you're really tired and you go to sleep :). It's not possible to do it awake and to be honest there's no way I'd want to. Hope everything goes well for you xx
Day 2 I’m 18 and it’s not that bad, just a lot of spitting and I only take oxy once a day and then ibuprofen the rest of the day just cause I’m scared of taking oxy plus it makes me very sleepy but i hear day 3 and 4 are the worse days
Hi so I just had my surgery this morning and I'm just wondering did your uvula ever got really swollen after surgery? And if it did how long do you think it would heal or reduce in the swelling?
I’m on day 3 and my uvula is still huge it’s gone down slightly but so far today has been the worse. I’ve cried so much because of how painful it is, it’s just so uncomfortable I need to get better so much!!
I'm on post op day 3 and it's no fun. Days 1 and 2 are great, I mean it hurts but that was a given. It was pretty peachy for me haha I was up and about and talking/with friends. But today's a different story. Today is no fun whatsoever. It feels like my throat is sticky... and I'm super congested. It also feels super sore when I swallow almost like a bruise... I've been alternating meds and it helps a little... but I wanna know: is there a way to get rid of the congestion? Or at least help it? My only thing that's helped really is just sitting up. It's just super almost gooey in my mouth and it makes me feel like I can't breathe! I can, but it's scary and uncomfortable for me. Any tips on how to reduce this would be super great! Please please please let me know if this happened to you and if you had anything that helped or how long it lasted... just feels like I can't stand it anymore!
I'm a late reply but maybe try to get a water vapor thing while you sleep and help the congestion:) I hope this helps anybody that reads this I'm having mine out next week but I read about it
I'm so nervous as I get my tonsils out on the 28th of October and I'm petrified as I don't cope well with pain at all and I've never had a serious operation and also I have to take out all four of my oral piercings which is really crappy.. also my appointment with the ENT doctor wasn't exactly great she was really unhelpful and very cheeky so not looking forward to it lol
Hey do you know how I can stop my breath smelling, I know it sounds gross but I can't brush my teeth because my whole mouth is swollen, also I can't eat food but I'm so hungry do you know any foods that I can eat apart from soup? I have not been able to sleep and I'm so hungry, online some sites say I should eat normally and others say liquid diet, could you please give me your advice please
+georgiaxxc Sorry for the late reply. I found the same problem but regarding eating I would say eat what you want and when you can rather than looking at what might be the norm. My favourites were salted crisps and ham which sounds odd but they pretty much dissolved in my mouth xx

Charlotte Amber painful and slow ngl, but worth it! Starting to eat much more food now
G T thanks, hope you feel better soon!
Thank you, my op is soon! I will remember all these tips. Thank you

Very informational video! currently on day 6, such helpful information

hi Alison. This was so helpful. I'm getting my tonsils out next month, I'm so scared :") and still looking for the best option for the surgery. I really appreciate it if you could tell me what kind of procedure you had? Was it traditional, laser, or coblation technique?

Lucy Johnson I hope it went good cause I’m in day five and I’m dying
Thank you so much you really cleared things up for me I am having my operation in one day and I was dealing like I disnr really know what to expect but now I have a fair idea

How Long until the pain slows or starts to improve?
Day 11-14
I know the struggle. I still have some lingering discomfort months after surgery. Check out Adult Tonsillectomy Sucks by Chuck Zander. Short but lots of good info.
thanks Alison, very helpful and informative :)
i’m on day 4 now the first three days were bad for me but today it’s not bad hurting
Speaking Truth i think like 2 hours after something happen while in surgery so i got kept awhile but then went home
Speaking Truth but it just depends how your doing if you can keep fluids and stuff down so yea it just depends
On my day 7all what I would say is that is painfully and one need to be strong and drink enough water plus the pain killer for healing and recovering process.

Thanks for making this, I heard some good tips not said elsewhere. Mine is in a few weeks :-D
You are welcome, hope the op goes well :)

Hi so I just had my surgery this morning and I'm just wondering did your uvula ever got really swollen after surgery? And if it did how long do you think it would heal or reduce in the swelling?
I literally got mine out yesterday. I heard swelling of the uvula is normal and it goes down in 8 days
Mines huge lol

+RockandGlitter (Alison) thankyou I'm all healed after the long two week process! Xx
