While there's only a few bits and tools that are useful for consoles, the rest of those bits are great for everything from computers to vacuums to vehicles!
Hey Elliot, a few weeks ago I got an old Game Boy Advance SP 101 in really nasty dirty condition and needed to open it up to clean it. I found a few month ago your retro channel and remembered about the IPS Mod I saw there. So I came back for the tutorial an notice I dont have this stupid Y Tri Wing Bits and my search began for some quality tools :) Long story short, after hour of search for the right bit I got one week ago my ifixit Manta Kit. I was really impressed how good the quality was. My highlight is definitive the screwdriver handle, really love it. Always thought before that ifixit stuff is rubbish. Mind changed since I got my Kit :)
It's kind of weird because in the review he didnt get a Y2.5 but I just bought one and it came with the Y2.5 and it is the cheaper model (the one of 25 euros).
@@pandaofspadez09 haha no problem :) I've been using that toolkit, though I did modify it with a better set of tweezers and magnets for screws as well as a slot for my favorite metal pry tool.
I have the Essential kit, I love it for its quality but the bits that is missing are the Nintendo ones. If you speak to them, please get them to make a console/handheld Essentials kit, none of the kits have all the bits you need.
I've had precision drivers, not these janky bit kits before cell phones were popular. First time you encounter a device that you can't reach the bottom you will know why I have them.
Love my mako kit, the bits aren't cheap steel like chinese bits and they fit so incredibly well. Perfect for controllers, consoles, pc parts its fantastic. Def quality.
@@her8066 Yep! Still going strong. The bearing in the handle is still as smooth as it was when I first got it. Some of the bits have had their coating wear off but they are still perfectly fine.
Ive had one of the Pro Tech kits for a while. Honestly its great. The plastic pry tools have a tendency to break after lots of opening of phones and such. ESD safe means electrostatic discharge safe.
One little thing in the screwdriver kit that I thought was odd but found using a lot a SIM Card Ejector Tool Bit which makes taking out SIM Cards or even pressing tiny reset buttons way nicer. Plus it works fine on its own if you don't even want to use the handle. Also, the lid can attack to the bottom of the screwdriver kit which can be nice if you are just taking that from one spot to another and put some screws inside the air gap that it creates. Plus the lid also has that grid which can be just a nice basic spot to group screws together. Also, I have had nothing but great customer service from them so far. I got one bit stuck where I couldn't get at it anymore. I emailed them and they sent me a replacement right away for no charge. I accidentally got the bit name wrong, so they said oh that's fine just keep the one we sent and we will send you the correct one. Lifetime warranties are awesome :D always feels good when a company stands behind their product that much.
Right on Elliot, ESD safe means they have non-conductive coating, so they won't short out components while working. Also the wrist strap is indeed anti-static. Clip the alligator clip on a metal table leg. Modern electronics are not as delicate as they used to be, and we have stuff like dryer sheets and all. But if you're doing it on a professional level, you're repairing hundreds a week sometimes, and that 1% chance of frying something always hits when fixing a one of a kind antique model or something. The suction cup is great for getting gameboy screen lens perfectly centered too, a stick on handle. One tip to get it off easily, so you don't yank the glass back off, use a spudger to lift the edge just enough so air gets under it and lifts it off the glass. Great review, for sure. The flex extender is the kind of thing that you almost never need, but when you do (to get that one impossible screw) it's a god-send.
Hey i got that exact same kit, just so you know that extender for the screwdriver I’ve used it a lot opening up game cubes cause the screwdriver itself with the gamebit cant reach all the way down there
I have the driver set with the flexible extension, and I have to say I've used nearly every bit in the kit. And the flexible dealio is a god send for reaching hard to reach screws.
Def not a tool guy, lol! There aren’t “more Phillips bits. One row is Phillips, the other is JIS, they might look like Phillips at a glance, but they’re actually very different with different geometry - if you try to use a Phillips bit on a JIS fastener, you really risk stripping the head out, as the bit will cam out nonstop, or you’ll have to apply so much force for it to not cam out, that you’ll break/crack whatever is underneath. So always double check what the actual fastener standard is, before using either a Phillips or the JIS.
Thanks for this video, i really enjoyed it. Can you give the refs of tools you are showing at 13:57 ? Electric screwdriver and toolbox. Thanks. Here -> ruclips.net/video/RiXrt08KQRY/видео.html
Isn’t that convenient. You get something from their company. However this review is not biased but the other one is. I’m not sure I want to trust your opinion. We shall see if everything holds up to snuff.
The bendy screw bit is for computers. I'm sorry but your review is horrible there is review from none English speakers even give more accurate information
They have a lifetime guarantee and they'll just replace it for you. Though you have to send back the broken ones. I'm not sure if they replace ones that were damaged because they were used in not intended purposes. I also don't know if they'll replace the picks or if you only have one broken, the pick or they blue pry tool.
I got the joycon drift repair kit and the bare minimum tools they supplied with it ive used at least a dozen times on my friends switch and gameboys for modding and have to say (cuz the plastic feel doesnt bother me) that plastic handle does feel good in the hand, also the repair kit i bought also came with a pair of tweezers along with the spudger and driver set If they just sold a basic kit like that, with the tweezers, spudger, and plastic driver with like, 2-3 Phillips sets, 2-3 Tri-Wing sets, and gamer bits for nintendo carts and sega carts for around $15-$20 +shipping id consider the purchase
When I was getting certified in CompTIA A+, the classroom for it (I took a class for it at a trade school) had several of these tool kits and I would 1000000% recommend them!! Id they werent so expensive, I would own one right now but...... 😅 But they're worth it, honestly!!
This review was more of just an unboxing instead of a review. Go use it for a week and report back to us. Would love to know how the tips of the bits hold up.
A week wouldn’t tell us anything. I’ve had cheapo crap screwdriver kits for years that I still use to this day. The ifixit ones are clearly higher quality and will probably last decades. But thanks for your feedback
Thank you, so very much, Elliot, for this inspiring toolkit review! I am convinced by your description of the many parts included in the toolkit! Wishing you all the very best and please stay healthy and safe! Best regards from Sweden!
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH I'VE MISSED EVERY VIDEO FOR THE PAST TWO MONTHS 😭🤧😱

10:52 Bro, pointless? Holy fuck did you never have to remove a motherboard from a computer WITH the tower cooler? Try to reach the screws without this thingy, :p
I use this on the job as an IT tech, If you are only working with Gameboy stuff, probably not recommended. I find the kit as a whole useful on the job. I can't complain, and I personally would recommend it, I like the power driver that you showed, and that would be the only addition, i would recommend going with the ki.

People move to the Philippines to get these for very cheap
ESD = electrostatic discharge. Basically, anything that’s ESD safe is guaranteed to not become statically charged and ruin your electronics
I know but how the hell dose he not know that
lmao, if he didnt know what it meant I thought I was a genius
Remember he's self-taught. Just doing it for the love of gaming and its tech. There are bound to be gaps. But I was a little surprised too...
i was looking for the same screwdrivers
You reversed the game bits. This will haunt me forever.
I'll admit the second channel name change confused me, "When did I subscribe to this?! Was I drunk? Who the hell is Elli-o-right, now I understand!"
I was just thinking the same thing.
Pretty much my thinking!
Was actually wondering if I should get one of these kits so hopefully this review will be informative

ESD: Electrostatic discharge, the thing that might just fuc- your computer

ESD safe means electrostatic discharge safe.
Yea they're meant to break instead of breaking what you're prying on, great idea.
Most of the cheap ones you get with phone displays or in cheap tool sets break after one try, so if they last for a couple of tries it is fine by me.
I will say that twisty screwdriver is veryyyyy helpful for iPhone 4’s so you can free the display from the housing
