Many Batman and DC fans are unaware of this game's existence, however Ultra is aware of the existence of this game and is automatically superior because they played this game, which is why they are review it.

I first heard about this game from the TurboViews channel many years ago and there was a single screenshot was what this game was supposed to be originally in a Japanese gaming magazine. It was slated to be another sidescrolling platformer that looked far better than the Genesis port, but played more like the NES original. I can only presume the reason for the game not shipping in this final condition and in the "maze" game that was released was SunSoft looking at how well the NES version sold over the Genesis version internationally and it didn't make a ton of sense to put all that extra effort into at platform that really only sold well in Japan. Had the TG-16 been marketed better in North America, we may well could have seen the definitive release of the game. SunSoft was working with a bunch of licensed properties at the time and one of them was supposed to be based on the 1984 Terminator film, but they lost the rights midway through development and Journey to Silius was the end result, salvaging what work had already been done. I am presuming that whatever they had of the original Batman game for PC Engine couldn't be repurposed into another platformer.
Perhaps one day, the original prototype ROM will surface, and play it on the Analogue Duo when that finally ships to get a full appreciation of what could have been
