If you're going to use a 580 make sure you have the OG pads that were made for them, they're not tuned to sound great with the newer clear disk pads (midbass sounds off). Second, baffle memes aside, the 580 has the clearest mids of all of the 6X0 in my opinion. They just lack in certain textures and depending on the model can sound too bright or a bit grainy. They're fun and on the better side of vintage headphones, but I'd say they're not needed for most people. 600 and 650 or even older model versions of them too are the two types of flavors most people will need anyways.
Yeah, I regret the way I framed things in my initial comment. The 580s are great it’s just a matter of whether you’re willing to deal with the short comings of owning a discontinued product for the sake of getting your favorite 6X0 sound signature. Personally, I enjoyed the kind of slam and upper mids clarity my 580s could offer versus my 600s. It’s just the other technicalities and comfort (the pads) that made me pick my 600 over it. It could be someone’s perfect headphone so don’t be hesitant to try one if you can and want to.
Bought my hd580 new about 20 years ago in a winter sale for £100. And they are still in mint condition. Don't use them to much really . As mainly use grado. But picked up a mint second hand hd 660s for just over 200. So been using my hd580 past few days out from my basic schiit magni 2 , then changing over to the 660s. I do still do enjoy both . But if I had to choose I'd go with the. 660s.
i have stellias, aryas, 7hz timeless, HD 660s...sundaras...... but boy do i love my portas they are soooo good ( little EQ at 2-4k (-2dB)) at spotify EQ
Im like 2 years late im currently borrowing the hd 580 precision from my dad,my only question is that could i game with these my brother says no as it will probally hurt the speakers
Indeed, I had the HD580 Precision and I found it inferior to my HD600. Not to mention that very few used headphones from the 1990s are without flaws, technical and cosmetic. Not worth 1/2 the price of a new HD600, imho. Great review.
Yeah had the 580 precision on loan for month. It's good. Like you said. But idk I'd prolly take the 660S and/or 600s on tubes, over it 😄. But it's another decent option if ppl are intrigued by the sought tuning difference etc. But yeah man, that scalable to infinity and beyond thing, is a bit of a meme 😂.

Thank you for the heads up and heads up to the community! Cheers!
sound preference is subjective I prefer theses over hd650
@@user-yk1cw8im4h I do as well…

HD660s been awhile since hearing those! Fantastic headphones
Very much agreed on the Porta Pros, love mine with the Yaxi pads despite of all the other more expensive stuff i've got.
It’s crazy how enjoyable they are… fantastic audio gear for sure

I think it should be fine gaming… only way it would hurt the drivers is if it was being over powered …
The grills are really amazing tho, i love em
You buy them for the midrange not the technicals
i use them with the plastic back of (more open and spacy)

I've pretty much tried all the Sennheiser headphones in that "6XX Family"... and I like the HD 600 the best
@@JTB-- I had all versions of the HD 580 & I still preferred my HD 600 but hype can create myths & increase prices for sure.
Shame.

660s is pure compression-fi
I've been looking at the 580s on eBay for well over a year, and I don't think you can buy a pair for under $200. They usually sell closer to $300.
Oof... that is crazy... the hype is real with these!
The Pumpkin Coach. 😄
20 years ago these were fab. These in 2022 is as good as scrap metal in the world of audiophile
dude is about sleeves, his hat , and Porta Pros. Oh yeah, also ZMF.
INFINITE SCALING!!! 😀
Sweet, I'll buy a HD600 instead.
You wasted 6 minutes precious time of your viewers before you start talking about its sound quality, please don't do it again.
I’m glad you enjoyed it! Cheers!
cancelled XD
I think 580 sounds similar to new hd58x. 58x have little more bass at lower cost.
Put it on a vintage Eddie Current ZDS you coward.
If I had one… you know I would!
yep cancelled
