This will be a unpopular opinion but here goes . Once you figure out you have chosen an abuser for God's sake do not have children with them . Kids will not save you. They will make it more difficult to get out . Never tell the abuser that you are leaving. You have the highest chance of being killed when the abuser realizes you are leaving Just disappear. Run for your life . This goes for men too.

It is true. Unfortunately, I fall for the crying, I can't live without you, I'll never do it again routine and went back. Not once but twice. I wanted to believe him and the crazy thing was I felt sorry for him!! 3rd time I left for good. By then I had nearly been killed, lived in a safe house for 3 months and have PTSD. There is always a "honeymoon" period after you take them back. They treat you like they did when you fell in love with their "good side". But, each time the honeymoon period is over the abuse is worse even deadlier. As with many abusers mine stalked me, violated restraining orders repeatedly, bonded out only to stalk me again. I am lucky to be alive. My story is too common. Frightening.

I was with one of these 'charmers'. Weird the same time this was happening it was happening to me. In the fall of 1986 after my son was born I left for good. It was the great escape running through an ally in the rain carrying my newborn trying to get to my dads car waiting for me before 'HE' knew I was gone. I learned if a guy as much shoves you, they will continue. It doesn't end. A shove becomes a push, a slap because a punch, a punch becomes several punches. The threats, the fear and emotional wreckage you endure is terrible.

Cannot speak for everyone, but those of us who were ignorant, naive and idealistic when we were young - unaware of what red flags to look out for - only recognized them decades later for what they were. Many reasons why opting out of a marriage is easier said than done; with the abused party most in danger when trying to leave.

It should have also said how many women are killed in domestic violence. On top of that the most deadly time is when they realize you are going to leave or have left. Restraining orders are pieces of paper. They help legally but they do not protect you physically. To all women wanting to leave: forget about material things, take you and your children, get somewhere safe, get legal representation. Call a domestic abuse hotline. There's help out their. Cut contact. Get legal help for the sake of your babies. They will use anything, including your children to control you. My ex took my 3 year old out of state. Too me 7 years to get him back. He has suffered such severe PTSD it breaks my heart. Please, abusive men are dangerous. Get help.

Also leaving is the most dangerous move to make, as we see in this case. Thank goodness this had a good ending. I experienced domestic violence at age 15. It was my first boyfriend, he was 19. The violence lasted two years. I decided that if a guy ever hit me, that I would never marry him. Also, that if a guy hit me, that I would have to report it on record and have the police give the guy a warning the first time. This has helped me in terms of violent relationships. Although it didn’t spare me from falling prey to narcissistic and psychopathic individuals. Hardest lessons in life.

I think of the Tracy Thurman Story when I’m watching this. I went from rape, to a stalker to an abusive relationship. I’m so glad my husband I’ve been with for almost 20 years doesn’t harm me at all. He’s not like that.

The Tracy Thurman movie, wasn't that with Nancy Keagen? Incredibly difficult movie to watch. Tracy lived through hell on earth from that sick man.

@@rachelreneer56 Yes, with Nancy McKeon. It is definitely difficult to watch. I agree with you. Unfortunately there are one too many out there like that. If I remember right, I read somewhere that her ex husband was now remarried. Also, that her son had a difficult life turning to drugs. Now whether that is true or not about her son, I don’t know. I am hoping Tracy and her son are living better lives now. In her case, the police just standing there as her then husband is trying to off her, is disgusting. They are supposed to protect, but they didn’t protect her.

Thanks for this upload, I was hesitant at first when I realised from the comments that it was about DV, since I'm a survivor myself. I recognised the patterns and kept pre-empting his next move. Worst thing is his name was Paul, just like an ex from 30 yrs ago who kidnapped me and tried to throw me from a cliff and repeatedly SA'd me while I suffered from 2nd degree burns... anything that reminds me of him is a PTSD trigger, he even had those beautiful blue eyes. This was therapeutic to observe objectively.
Sadly, early childhood DV led me into a cycle of boyfriends that I now know as Narcissistic types, just like my mother. So, we learn, hopefully from these generational patterns, that we are worth more than that and even if that means living alone, with good guard dogs💞😁🐶🐶🐶

(I had to have my tailbone surgically removed cos of him)
I bought acreage with my last abusive partner & he used to say how cool it was that he could murder me out there & no-one would find my body. He saw a venomous Red Bellied Black Snake & he pushed me over onto the snake trying to get me bitten. He actually went to prison for aggravated violence in the end. .
That was 14 years ago & I suffer from PTSD. I have never had another partner since because I have really poor judgement when it comes to men & I am so broken the only people I have anything to do with are my kids.
