Hey Darryl, great work playing the Theremin. What other things can you play with that? Maybe a roy orbison tune that very few singers can get their voices to master?
Well done! I really dislike the orchestration: why does the tempo go from andante to vivace? And are those COW BELLS, FFS? However, the only quibble I have with Mr. Kubian's playing is that I think the final glissando tends more to gimcrackery than grandioso, but that's just me. After 50+ years of listening to the theme on TV my expectations are pretty ossified.... ;-)
If you listen to the various iterations /arrangements from the show, there was always bongo and the occasional finger cymbal or xylophone strike (signifying an encountered star, perhaps?). Here, the crash cymbal started on the offbeats-cool-but ended up on ev.ry.sin.gle beat lol. In any event he /she didn’t keep a steady tempo and should have been cut....
@@Custerd1 "Out of place"? No way. The bongos complete the theme and add to the exotic and adventurous feeling of the tune, creating a nice harmony. My point is bongos make anything satisfying.
Any chance of a solo cover of this, or tutorial on how to play this piece in particular? I'm planning on playing this in my school's art night, but can't seem to find sheet music or a tutorial...

I had the chance to try one of these one time. It was not as easy as it looks. I found the pitch to be pretty sensitive and you have no frets or keys to tell you where you are.
Rewatching the original series recently I wondered at first if it WAS a theremin, but it was a woman singing. Good to see someone try it, but I felt the theramin was a bit too drowned out by the orchestra.
Well played on Therumin, although this could be a hilarious sounding instrument, whilst not tuned or played right.People's comments about the sound can, also be hilarious concerning the sound- when an artist began playing one, in a pub in Ashton-under-lyne it did sound strange -you could almost imagine it being a drunk singer, in my opinion

No, you're just close-minded. There's no rule against musicians and conductors coming up with arrangements that suit their ensembles. The original arrangement had drums anyway, so this is not far off, meaning that your “oh god why?” is in vain.
Hello fellow Theremin lovers. If you are in the DC area March 28 - April 2 , I am playing Theremin in 'The Little Mermaid' at the Kennedy Center - www.kennedy-center.org/calendar/event/BRBSH - Come by the pit and say hi.
Darryl Kubian As someone who's been in that musical, with a live pit, how does the theremin fit in? I'm curious as to which songs you play in, and what melodies or effects you make. You can name individual songs - I'm very familiar with the musical in its entirety.

The best version, I've heard. It gets intense in the middle. I close my eyes and see enterprise zooming across a strange planet

For reals that's definitely against Star Fleet regulations...
Cloth wrinckles are only allowed if you can play Theremin. This is the case.
