Another great video! This series has been so helpful for understanding the nuances of recording different instruments, and I've learned a lot about Audio-Technica's mics as I go along. Thank you for making these Audio-Technica!
How do professional Soprano Saxophonist get that worm sound in Studio recordings? Please listen to Arturo Tapping playing ( Unfaithful by Rihanna) live, then listen to the same song recorded in the Studio. Listen to the sound of thr soprsno sax in both recordings .How can i get that rrcorded sound? Help.
That doesn't help because you have so much items that i don't know what to look forr. and what i need. You are assuming that i know what i am looking for. I bet this is a female.

Looks like a Mark VI to me. Body-brace ring looks like Selmer, not Yamaha; high E key is "flat;" no high F-sharp key; front F key is a pearl, rather than a metal "tear drop;" I think I can make out a Selmer logo on the bell.
I know it's late for an answer but you can achieve great sound with almost any condenser cardioid microphone aimed at the body roughly the same height as the mouthpiece (and off-axis). Add a SM57 (or 58, depends on the type of sax and player) aimed to the bell and mixing them both can achieve good results. I know it's tedious work but hey, we poor people have to do what we have to do :P
great recordings require great mics. You can try to use an SM57 or something similar, but the results using a cheaper mic for brass instruments will be lackluster.
The soprano sax is NOT "unique in its straight-line configuration". There are a several versions of straight alto and tenor saxophones on the market. There is also a "sopranino" sax which is straight.
it was the only, and still is the only popular straight sax of the 4 most common saxophones bari tenor alto soprano. sure there are straight altos and tenors made, but they are not at all common.
This women is sooo talented.
Amazing sound on all the saxophones!
Hatts off to this lady
I think she's been playing in dewwzil zappa's band? (frank zappa's talented son)
Man, she has a great sound. Thanks for the tips!
This sax player kicks ass.
Absolutely!
This saxophone player sounds great and is very pretty. Thanks also to AT for the helpful information about mic positioning.
This is the best saxophone recording technique video on RUclips. Thanks!

The ribbon mic makes it sound so muted.
it sounds really bad.
the name of the tenor sax song?
She sounds like Bleedin' Gums Murphy.
Is anyone else nervous that that Mark VI is just leaning on a drum throne?
nice video .. now can you make one without the I"am a rich man microfoon..?
I mean 600 dollar for a mic.....
Willem Hofman lol
shame this hasn't been answered yet, because I, too, am not a rich man

@Katerina Moran They are infact not made of brass
@Katerina Moran I've played the instrument for 20 years :D
they've made of brass, but in fact its wood inst, coz at the beginning most of them were made of wood.
Katerina Moran yeah, man, mouthpieces were made of wood:) now it’s not generally

All sounded really bad. I heard much better sounding things from a nasty sure 57, not sure what the problem was, but this demo really sucks
